I think the craziest shit about this entire tournament run. Zain literally went through the generational stages of Marth from 2001 through to 2022. From the raw F Smash, PAL Ken Combo's, to Ken Combo's, to M2K back throw gimps, counter at ledge, chain grabbing and pivots to new era shit like ledge cancelled aerials, sour spot juggling, fluid shield dropping to extend etc. It was literally like witnessing the culmination of every Great Marth player passing up the Torch each match that Zain played until he added his own spark of Marth to the flame.
This game is poetry in motion.

When Zain said 2020 was his year...I felt that. Props to him for coming back over two years later and winning Genesis back-to-back.
Also, Zain with the new Genesis grand final speedrun WORLD RECORD. A 7 min 13 sec grand final, Zain has beaten Armada's Genesis grand final PB of 8 min 49 sec. 👏

How is it always exactly what we needed, I swear melee’s story is like it’s written in stone. Is there some outer god brought to life by the passion for competition, some unknown force keeping this game alive and writing the story of each player. The old generation, the east coast vs west coast, five gods; armada, mang0, hungrybox’s rise, PP’s battle with his mental to become the best, the rise of plup, zain. It’s all so beautiful to be honest. You can’t make this shit up

The iBDW set was definitely the highlight, seemed like such an intense set for both of you.
It had bit “Grand Finals” energy. Jmook deserved it for that crazy upset run, but it’s a little disappointing IBDW didn’t make it back for one more go

tbh the set with IBDW might as well have been "grand finals" from a spectator point of view, that set was - as another commenter wrote - BANANAS. Also the pseudo rock-paper-scissors thats at play is very interesting. Cody gives Zain a GREAT set. Jmook SMOKES ibdw. Zain SMOKES Jmook.

It reminds me of when armada went fox for the first time in a grands way back in the day and got beat pretty bad.

I get that it's a joke but I don't really understand this whole narrative that Zain is only good online. Getting 2nd and 3rd at the two summits last year is nothing to scoff at and he did actually win SWT NA east regional which was actually a fairly stacked event.

What terrible writing, you're telling me Jmook takes out Plup and ibdw but doesn't powerscale to Zain? Zain didn't even have a flashback showing all the great Marths of history lending him their power. The script was obviously changed at the last minute, probably because Zain begged the writing team to let him have Genesis (such a fragile ego smh). The writers of Melee have really ruined it these past few years, and if they keep this up, I will have no choice but to voice my displeasure in a strongly worded Reddit post.

Not hating but how is this a historic run? Zain is clearly the best in the world and was the favorite to win Genesis. If anything Jmook had the historic run, Zain just did normal Zain things.
I don't think Zain has won a LAN tournament since G7. I agree that Jmook had the more impressive run, though. I never heard of the guy until now.
