I lived across the river in Lydney when it was busy making plywood sheets with the timber brought up by barge from Bristol docks. The tug with several barges in tow and coming up with the tide, some times the last barge would be abeam the tug in a horse shoe shape. Now everything is closing down and Sharpness is seeing a lot less ship traffic. Hence the poor state of the timber breakwater. Thank you for posting and jogging my memories.
Another lovely video :-) I can remember walking over the walkway on top of the lock gates in Preston when I was a child; there was a railing on only one side and it scared the cr*p out of me! Thanks for the film, Tim

That’s so interesting, yes it’s a shame about the decline in river traffic. Thank you for watching ☺️☺️

Thank you John. My dad was merchant navy and I love to see the ships. I think it must be very difficult to navigate the river Severn.
All ways come in with the Tide or the ship will never be able to swing against it it’s too strong
I just love taunt taunt boats!
Excellent video however it would be nice to know what was the cargo and from where the ship came ?
