    I don't see listening to music would make Michael gay. I take it that the Father realizes he doesn't know his son very well. As is frequently the case in average families.
    I have to say, Dylan Moran looks very different as the average family man. I'm used to the smoking, drinking and swearing [but with a good philosophy behind it.]

    The human behind the comedy. Just as I suspected, Dylan Moran seems to be a pretty decent human being.

      Dylan's hair is back to normal now :) I saw him perform and talked to him the other day and he looks like he's de-aged! He's stopped smoking so maybe that helps... *shrugs*

    I really liked this. I got here from Catherine Tate's film, and I don't really know Dylan Moran, so I had no expectations about what it would be like. I think the title, "The Awkward Age", applied to the situation in general--it's not just being a teenager or young adult that's awkward--it's relationships and trying to communicate. And I loved the ending--the dad watching the son sleep like he would have when the boy was a baby, and then realizing he doesn't know as much about him as he thinks.

    I thought that the music just meant that Michael was a lot more complex that his parents were making him out to be, it wasn't just pop. But the part where he still got punched after he gave the people his phone kind of makes sense if you look at it from that point of view

    • @hepa00lepa
      @hepa00lepa 7 років тому +4

      enjoying classical music doesn't make somebody more complex than some one who doesn't enjoy classical music though so I'm not inclined to believe that

    • @katharina689
      @katharina689 7 років тому +3

      Yes, it does. Music has a lot to do with who you really are. Books too f.ex. If you read cheap literature, you are a cheap person. With no style. Haha. It's true. If you listen to hip hop you probably aren't as deep and complex a person as someone who listens to classical music, jazz or ..melodic black metal.
      P.S. The use of punctuation is by the way one of the signs for complexity of the mind ;)

      Ekaterina Imerslund thats pretty bold.
      as someone who very much enjoys classical music, not only listening but playing since the age of 11, no - you're wrong

    I remember visiting a restaurant when I was late 30s and m daughter was 13. We was going on holiday and rather excited. Some older gents were discussing us as they presumed we were a gay couple too. I was annoyed at the time, but think it’s funny now I’m in my 50s.
    I didn’t say anything to them (wish I had) but I would have if they had been staff rather than customers.

    To all those who just got a clue from just the music
    For the whole 9 minutes the boy was trying to tell his father that he was gay
    One: The overly protective mother that refuses to go away for the weekend just to make sure they are ok especially the son.
    Two: The restaurant scene where the boy kept calling his father gay and sending gay vibes that the restaurant owner noticed. he was actually talking about himself.
    Three: Boy kept eyeing those lads outside where the father thought they were just being thugs that took the cell phone and beat the crap out of him. The son was actually checking them out.
    Four: the iPod where it is just a stereotype to give the audience (that never got it in the first place) yet another idea he was gay.
    which leads us finally to the beginning of the episode where the boy came home bleeding, for us to think he was just being bullied because he was weak. Clues add up.

      The Krakenismus What does the music have to do with sexuality? I guess everything else adds up in ways...

    • @CommonUnity
      @CommonUnity 9 років тому +4

      The Krakenismus are you saying Beethoven's music for gays?

    • @CommonUnity

      The Krakenismus as a matter of fact I do speak English, if u haven't realised......

    • @usamanasher6852
      @usamanasher6852 9 років тому

      Common Unity Then read the whole original comment. With all due respect you would figure out that I'm actually directing at people that say "gays should be distinguished by what music they listen"... I pointed out that there were OTHER clues to the fact that the son was gay.Apparently the music part was just an additional extra for the people who cannot think of anything else but your average everyday stereotypes like music, hand motions, clothing, lisps, hairdos, gait and so forth.
      If you are to point fingers here... ask Dylan Moran, why did he end his clip listening to Beethoven and has this sudden look of realization

  • @sheepstotheslaughter
    @sheepstotheslaughter 11 років тому

    i think the son is gay because the music makes him finally connect all the dots , like why those guys kept hitting him even after he gave the phone and also why he knew the guy in the restaurant thought they were a gay couple.

    The homosexual theory is an interesting one. The Bach at the end made me think of Billy Strayhorn. However I do not think that this short scene is about that. It's just about modern day father-son relationship stuff. People get mugged for their phones, cafe workers can be very rude, trying to get work with no experience is almost impossible, not many guys are good at cooking for other people, etc. The world is harsh. However the father apologizing at the end seems like some progress and the classical music is just a cliche, intelligent people who are sensitive find life the most difficult. It's not a very deep or original story but it is social realism (a pretentious art student's bread and butter). I must say that I expected more from Dylan Moran.
