Interestingly enough, the GBA port seems to be patterned after the PC version in terms of Point-to-point racing. Its also crazy that they got a fully 3D Polygonal racing game to run that smoothly on the GBA. Its quite impressive for a 2001 handheld system. EA used to have talented people working for them.
I'd say that it looks more like a N64 game. Dreamcast had better looking racing games back then, especially looking at the textures and effects. Not 100% sure about polycount, as the console had some severe bottlenecks, hence fog being used so heavily to mask draw distance.
@@dffagundo imo certain Dreamcast racers look as good as ps2, while others look more like this. I haven't seen n64 quite to this caliber. Even ps1 gt2 was more detailed than anything n64. Porsche Unleashed controls is stiff at best and sometimes if you dont upgrade specific cars, at worst is very frustrating.
@@sebastiankulche Try to drift and it will become very hard and realistic. As you are right that NFS Porsche and PS1 really have a very good soundtrack. However, the thing I loved very much about the PC version before was, firstly, the difficulty and secondly the realism of the cars (for example, the cars tilted and when you drove terribly fast with an older car, most of the car overturned and the race was actually "over") I have played only the older nfs games like NFS 1, 2, 3 Hot Pursuit, 4 High Stakes and NFS Porsche of course. I have actually enjoyed the factory driver game mode. So just please try to play the pc version factory driver for a while and you will see thats its actually good (not awesome)
People that think that this NFS is the best one must love Porsche cars a lot. I personally quite like them but it's not really the best NFS ever, but amongst the best imo. The thing I like the most about this game is the historic career mode that allows you to purchase Porsche cars from earlier to later eras and the ability to purchase car modications and tuning.
the 2GHz CPU patch, there are other PC games that have this problem i think. it's when the CPU is running over 2GHz and the games textures break on some older directX or 3dfx games. (for those who don't know what this is, now you know)

Porsche Unleashed on PC was one of the first games I played in my life and it planted a Porsche seed in my brain that has made me into the huge Porsche fan that I am today. I came to know some years back that the PS1 version was vastly different and why the PC version is hailed as one of the best ever made is the historical data on Porsches, the game design and most of all, the 4-point physics. This is one of a handful of times when a PC game, and the only NFS game, came close to replicating a real car's handling. The way the cars handle, brake, shift weight, power slide, spin out etc. in the PC version is 95% accurate to how they handle in real life. That's the main thing that sells the game for me, and something that no other NFS ever managed to do again. The PS1 on the other hand, I've come to appreciate that it's also an incredibly well made game with lots of attention to detail (first NFS to have flame spitting exhaust!), much closer in spirit to older games like Hot Pursuit 1998 and High Stakes, but where it falls behind is in the car handling department. Usually PS games have superior handling physics compared to PC, but apparently not with this one. Still a great game though, and one I'd love to play, if (and when) only I could acquire a PS1. Thanks for the video though! That was a good one!
The PC version might have graphics, semi-realistic handling and mods. But the PS1 just has a certain character to it that makes it more of what I'm looking for in a Need For Speed game. Arcade physics with realistic cars while celebrating Porsche's history at the same time. If I want realism in the late 90s early 2000s it's either Gran Turismo or GP Legends not Need For Speed.
I think it had the right amount of realism. It shared engine with High Stakes on PS1 (it's weird that NFS Porsche on PS1 did not), so it's a true classic NFS, and I see a lot of character: you can really tell the differences between models and feel the evolution generation by generation, while keeping the same Porsche DNA, which is perfect for a game based on a single brand like Porsche.
First time I played Porsche Unleashed on PC in 2000 on my first home PC, I was 12 years old and had one or two years PC gaming experience. Porsche Unleashed was second NFS game (after high stakes) which I played. It was early and therefore strong feelings. For this reason I think Porsche Unleashed my favourite NFS game. Possible it was imprint in psychological terms.
Back in late 90s or early 2000s it was huge difference playing on console and PC. 😎 PC was totally different quality! Now the quality between PS5 and strong PC is marginal...
@@ntl9974 There is potential to have more varied Porsche cars instead of duplicates with minor differences. If someone were to make a remake, they should separate the car categories into four factions: Classic era, Golden era, Silver era (The original modern era) and the Modern era (A new modern era with the more current line-up of Porsche vehicles).
NFS3, NFS5 PU and NFSU are my most favorite in the series. Sadly after NFSU EA got stuck in the boring rehashing of the same idea or trying too hard to add "story" to a racing game that doesn't need one, even NFS HP from 2010 was just Burnout with cops.
Of all NFS games up to the first NFS Most Wanted, this was one easily the one I played the least. I am talking about PC. While I like Porsche cars and usually play them quite a lot in every racing game it has them, something about this game put me off. After almost 20 years I still can't pinpoint what it was. Thank you for a very nice video. Good job.
I like it the most of all NFS games too (PC). Mainly because I think it´s the only really "grown up" game in the franchise. And there´s some nostalgia indeed. Let me give you my reasons: 1) Atmosphere of the menu - awesome garage, auctions to make money, historic videos, great music. 2) Tuning options - back then, almost no games had possibility to tune your car this way - sway bars, shocks, fibreglass bodies, it´s all just lovely and noticeable in game. 3) Love the Porsche cars, but really, graphics are so bad and even the sound is nothing like the real car, so not sure if this is the real reason. 4) Great tracks both audio and race ones, Cote d´Azur, Schwarzwald, Monte Carlo, Zone Industrielle and Alps are just unforgettable :) 5) Drive feel - I know it´s a bit sluggish, but I really think it´s the way developers wanted it to be to feel real. Questionable choice indeed, but your irl car won´t make a 90° turn doing 130mph even if it´s a Porsche too. 6) Fixed camera - your camera won´t move further away with speed and closer while braking, this is soo huge for me that I don´t even play most modern race games because of this. 7) Played it as a kid with my father and we all know these are the best games when we grow up. PS: Fuck Dylan
I honestly enjoy both versions a lot. I would say the PC version is probably superior overall, but here is what I prefer about each version: PS1: - Much better evolution mode - Far superior soundtrack - Changeable weather/night conditions on tracks - Tracks based not only in Europe PC: - Better single player mode (knockout, traffic etc.) - Far superior factory driver mode - Better graphics - Simulation and more realistic driving
Man, back then PC games felt like they came from another goddamn planet. The PC version looks like what Gamecube or Xbox racing games would look like in a few years.
The reason a lot of people thing NFS:Porsche 2000 was the best in the NFS franchise, is probably because it was one of the only 2 NFS games that were more simulation than arcade(at least on the PC version), the other one being the original NFS for MS-DOS/3DO. I remember being at my friends house playing the Demo of NFS II on his Windows 95 PC and hating it. Not that I think NFS II is a bad game, just that I was hoping for something more like NFS 1, whereas NFS II turned out to be a pure Arcade racer.

I used to own NFS3, Road Challenge and this for PS1. They're all really good games and look FAR better on a CRT. It looks much worse than it is here on YT. Ultimately, visuals aside, the PS1 version looks like it's more fun to play! The PC version looks to be a bit of a chore, comparatively...
it looks like a chore because OP was using stock cars. Fully tricked out, you can reach 200+ mph with s-tier cars on some tracks and the cars handle WAY better. The game is basically abandonware at this point, so if you can find it and get it to work on your hardware, I heavily recommend it.

The PC looks like Dreamcast graphics.
exatamente kk
I'd say that it looks more like a N64 game.
Dreamcast had better looking racing games back then, especially looking at the textures and effects.
Not 100% sure about polycount, as the console had some severe bottlenecks, hence fog being used so heavily to mask draw distance.
@@dffagundo imo certain Dreamcast racers look as good as ps2, while others look more like this.
I haven't seen n64 quite to this caliber.
Even ps1 gt2 was more detailed than anything n64. Ps1 is just very pixelated, but its also sharp and detailed while n64 is much smoother yet kinda blurred and chunky. Hard to explain.. I've played some great n64 racers tho so I don't want to knock it, just my opinion.
@@dffagundo Maybe you are used to nowadays racing games, but I played NFS Porsche on PC back in the day and N64 was by no means close to PC graphics. MSR on Dreamcast it's a closer comparison.

@@gulas_s_houskovym_knedlikem The best handling on the series? Only because is realistic doesnt mean is better. Previous games in the series where arcade, with the perfection in controls made with NFS3 and 4 that give you complete control over your car (in the PC release at least).
However, the thing I loved very much about the PC version before was, firstly, the difficulty and secondly the realism of the cars (for example, the cars tilted and when you drove terribly fast with an older car, most of the car overturned and the race was actually "over")
I have played only the older nfs games like NFS 1, 2, 3 Hot Pursuit, 4 High Stakes and NFS Porsche of course.

Newer pcs need a patch for nfs5 which this doesnt have. The details of the cars would look cleaner
the 2GHz CPU patch, there are other PC games that have this problem i think.
it's when the CPU is running over 2GHz and the games textures break on some older directX or 3dfx games. (for those who don't know what this is, now you know)
@SilverX95 I didn't give a great explanation haha. Just a quick overview. It does look alot better with the patch especially in races. Still play this occasionally on pc.
I remember owning a copy for my Windows 98. When people first saw this including Need For Speed High Stakes on the PC version, everyone nearly vomit and flew off their chairs from what they saw what the PC version could do!

Can you guys do about NFS High Stakes?
Weird, why does the pre-rendered video at the start have higher framerate on PS1? Never noticed that before.

The PS1 intro was in 30fps, and the PC version had to reduce it for better quality.

I am 100% agree with you, NFS III: Hot Pursuit is the best. My all time favourite racing game. Also yeah this game is better on PS1.
Ah yes, back when EA still put out quality games. These are both quite good, and different enough that you could own both, without feeling like you bought the same game twice. I do prefer the PC version's point-to-point races though, as it offered up something different than tracks and laps. To answer your question about which NFS I like best? Hot Pursuit! Outrunning the cops was such a thrill.
Hot pursuit was the first NFS game I've ever played and it was great trying to run from the police.
@@robertkemp5362 Its one of the first PlayStation games I actually got to really sit down and try. Before that I'd only got to play demo kiosks and the like.

Not only that, the intro is running smoothly in the PS1 version than it is on PC
I wish they combined elements of both into ultimate PC version - there is lack of cars in PC version, mainly 959, 917 LM and some of the special GT versions, also the PS version had better music changing each era - despite that, I managed to get this running on WIN10 and the game is still rewarding with an OK handling model, maybe more tracks could have been added (for example using the test track from factory driver), sure game from 2000 had limitations
So the PS1 has more cars than the PC version? Strange

@@Jesus_Hill It is the same engine but the handling is different. You are more in control of the cars in NFS Porsche Unleashed.
@@Jesus_Hill Maybe because the engine is absolutely terrible to begin with it, at least on a gameplay perspective compared to PC.
My childhood is on the right side
First time I played Porsche Unleashed on PC in 2000 on my first home PC, I was 12 years old and had one or two years PC gaming experience. Porsche Unleashed was second NFS game (after high stakes) which I played. It was early and therefore strong feelings. For this reason I think Porsche Unleashed my favourite NFS game. Possible it was imprint in psychological terms.
Back in late 90s or early 2000s it was huge difference playing on console and PC. 😎 PC was totally different quality! Now the quality between PS5 and strong PC is marginal...
And the tracks sometimes feel like the car chase scenes from french Fantomas movies. :D
It would be awesome to see a remake with all of the tracks from both versions! But that's very unlikely.
They should make it better, these tracks are generic, and there are so many cool Porsches you could put in the game

I entered to see which one to pick, i leaved with an existential crisis
Of all NFS games up to the first NFS Most Wanted, this was one easily the one I played the least. I am talking about PC. While I like Porsche cars and usually play them quite a lot in every racing game it has them, something about this game put me off. After almost 20 years I still can't pinpoint what it was.
Thank you for a very nice video. Good job.
I like it the most of all NFS games too (PC). Mainly because I think it´s the only really "grown up" game in the franchise. And there´s some nostalgia indeed. Let me give you my reasons:
1) Atmosphere of the menu - awesome garage, auctions to make money, historic videos, great music.
4) Great tracks both audio and race ones, Cote d´Azur, Schwarzwald, Monte Carlo, Zone Industrielle and Alps are just unforgettable :)
5) Drive feel - I know it´s a bit sluggish, but I really think it´s the way developers wanted it to be to feel real.
Pc were always superior and this game is my childhood love

What's with PC's FMV's?
better to have lower FPS FMV's to get better FPS in gameplays
I honestly enjoy both versions a lot. I would say the PC version is probably superior overall, but here is what I prefer about each version:
PS1:
- Much better evolution mode
- Far superior soundtrack
- Changeable weather/night conditions on tracks
- Tracks based not only in Europe
PC:
- Better single player mode (knockout, traffic etc.)
- Far superior factory driver mode
- Better graphics
- Simulation and more realistic driving
Does anyone know the perfect hardware to use to build a PC for this game?
Intro looks better on PSX but gameplay look so much better on pc.

Agora imagine se a comparação do UMK3 fosse ARCADE vs GBA...
