  • The BYU Cougars are enjoying a level of fame nationally that's unusual and special as Kevin Young has put the BYU men's basketball on the map seemingly for college basketball's leading voices as he continues to build out his BYU basketball roster and looks to show what he can accomplish at Brigham Young University.
Jake Hatch then shared some insights on KYU from a source who explains that Young's demeanor and nature a sa coach stands in stark contrast to many of his contemporaries in the college hoops universe and will help him standout as he seeks to build a lasting success at BYU and in the uber competitive Big 12 Conference.
Finally, the show wrapped up with a look at what Lamason Waller could offer to BYU football as his official visit to BYU happens this week and leading college football recruiting experts are predicting that he will end up signing with Kalani Sitake's program, giving Fesi Sitake and Aaron Roderick another talented pass-catcher to utilize if the projection is correct.

Can you help us understand the 247 Sports Rating system.
They currently have the Cougars at #12. Why?

Do you think there are any more surprise 4 Star or potential NBA first rounders left for Kevin Young to get?

Kevin Young's personality seems a lot closer to Bronco Mendenhall than Mark Pope. I'll take the great recruiter who knows ball over the bombastic guy. Kevin Young is real and he's got credibility. He's a far better person to have.

There is no doubt that KY has had some major recruiting wins since being named HC of BYU, but, please, let's wait until KY actually wins a B12 conference championship or gets us to the Final 4 before we declare him the Lavell Edwards of BYU basketball.

KY has done an amazing job bringing on talented capable assistants and recruits. Never been done before. Should translate into great play on the court. Kalani didnt have good P4 coaches that didnt know how to recruit. He is getting there. I dont think it is an NIL thing. Tuiaki was terrible and didnt recruit defensive talent. Jury is out on ARod. If offense cant get their run problems and QB problems worked out he will be gone after this season. If Kalani cant get it worked out in 2 years he will be gone.

In fairness to Jake, he,s not saying they’re going to win any type of championship, he’s saying that the buzz created by the talent they’ve been able to sign has been nation wide, not just in Utah. It is the media that is saying they can be a dark horse. In fact, he said it ultimately comes down to wins and losses as far as rating what he is as a coach. His point is, how often has BYU basketball(or any sport for that matter) signed four 4* players(6 if you count retaining Saunders and Hall who were, from what I understand, 4* transfers) and if rated, Demin would likely have been a 5*) and they still have one spot left to fill. So, Jake is correct, his recruiting has been incredible and that’s what he,s praising. Again, he will ultimately be judged on BYU’s record, but what he’s done with the roster is deserving of praise.

Not sure why we cannot talk about the high caliber of players committing to play for BYU. There has been an obvious change. We don’t need to have BB games played to see the change. Obviously we need to see how the games start going, but we can talk about the accomplishments so far.

@@Paysoncougarfan.7885 super weird. We do it all the time. If you got into a good college that means you worked hard and your likelihood of success is increased. We don’t tell them, well, we will see what happens. They achieved something. Now it is up to them to do the work next and take advantage of that. Same with this team. 4 of the top 10 recruits in program history. We can acknowledge that something good is happening and the likelihood of success is increased.

    Here’s BYU’s football issue:
    Whittingham > Mark pope
    Kevin Young > Kilani
what does Kevin and Kyle have in common? THEY BOTH UNDERSTAND NIL is IMPORTANT and are utilizing it! Look at byu hoops and utah football, top players and consistently winning -byu hoops in given time.
Kilani’s issue is he’s said time and time again he’s not paying players and only wants kids WHO WANT TO BE AT BYU. We’ll have fun being a mediocre football team for the next 5 years.
BYU football needs to do what Kevin young is doing and .. sad to say but pay the players.

@@smuggythorntonit’s not apples and oranges. It’s the abolity to see that success leaves clues. BYU hoops is better than Utah basketball cause they’re using NIL. Utah football is undoubtedly better than byu football because again.. nil & winning football program.
All I’m saying is byu football can be good if Kalani just gets out of his own way.
