This appears to be the old ferry rd. Back about 30 years ago there was a boat ferry across the river. It was scheduled to replaced by a bridge. Coming from the east side, you rounded the corner and there it was! Not much room to stop. If they had removed the signs warning about the ferry ahead, and had left it open. It would be easy to drive right into the river. GPS might not have given a warning. It's likely that the officer didn't see the river until he was already in it! Gotta hurry up and blame the real victim in this case to bring the amount of the settlement with her family as much as possible. She could have been distracting him! After all, she'd been searched, she was handcuffed and secured in the back of a patrol vehicle, so she might have been in a position to physically attack him as he texted while driving and probably speeding (since the car flipped on hitting the water).

How do they not know who the person is they radio in for info before they leaving their stop.
Everyone is sad about the cop! What about the poor lady! Law suit! And how did the vehicle sink so fast?
EXACTLY 💯
What about the women in the back seat ?
The woman in the back seat family will have a big lawsuit Cha Ching !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Why did he leave the force in NY?
This is so very tragic. May they both rest in peace 🙏🏼
It's very deep, and the current is strong there. This is why every police officer should be familiar with the territory they are in !
So they're like no lights or barriers or anything? Shouldn't there be some sort of gate?
Quite frankly the city doesn't give a damn until something like this happens.@@WALTERBROADDUS
@@WALTERBROADDUS Yes sir, In Saltilo we have had several people do the exact same thing over the last 50 years. There, as well as many other similar places with river access, the state put in two yellow signs and later, red flashing lights that say:
Danger TN River ahead
Looks like they need that here to prevent another awful accident like this.
And not on the phone texting while driving especially if he wasn’t familiar with the roads. He was texting his wife boasting about his first arrest.
This was reported on another news station.
@@irismoody7244 until we see the body cam footage, we don't know when exactly he was texting. He could have still been on the bridge writing up the arrest report.
Prayers to the lady's family. Police department should be sued.
That was his own incompetence, Just wait until the woman's family sues. Sadly the tax payers will be on the hook.
Just moved to the area a couple of months ago and is already patrolling the county alone without knowing the lay of the land?
He was at home. Was he getting drunk or letting one wear off? Is that why he was on that road.
Why was he at home while on duty? He may have even been home getting some azz from his wife. Who knows but they rushed against policy to put him to rest to escape a toxicology test in which is always policy when an accident like this happens
The chief deputy said they are a small county, so I'm guessing seasoned cop by number of years in the fields = immediate hire less training other than radio comms and protocol familiarization in that jurisdiction. Most departments will operate that way specially if understaffed
Last time I checked all patrol cars still had functioning headlights at work. High beams low beams.
You can bet what and who he layed on the land and why she was erased@@tnaccountability7455
Why is it ok for cops to text and drive?
Facts
Exactly.I see it here where I live all the time.My city is filled with state, county and city cops.So they are everywhere.
Texting and driving. So excited about arresting someone! Then he gets her killed. Apparently "she" doesn't have a name, no id, and no condolences from LE. And now "might have been distracted by her" (she was in handcuffs and seat belted in) NO. Texting and driving and his immaturity caused this. He just had to brag about his first arrest while driving.
If they knew it was dangerous why wouldn't they make sure he knew if he was unfamiliar... And he was negligent looking at his phone.. murderer
Very strange indeed....
So sketch!....
When are people going to open their eyes and realize the cops are a gang of erasers who abuse qualified immunity and violate peoples rights daily and are federal rights crimes@@swmplvr
Police officer was not paying attention on the road
Say the victims name!!!!!!!! Where are the tears for her? Rip to her.
Where is the man she was fighting with? Why wasn't he arrested? How old is she and her name? Why was she arrested? Dont the cameras work even if they got wet? God, I hope and pray that they find out what really happened and release info.
Bingo. Perhaps covering for a drunk officer. Perhaps why they laid him to rest so fast to avoid policy to perform a toxicology exam. Is that why and or both cause he was texting n driving
Just when I thought leaving the woman on the train tracks couldn’t be bested. No mention of this poor woman either. Makes me sick.
This is really messed up, so sad, prayers up
Tabitha Smith 35 yr old mother of Two . R.I.P 🕯️
His Incompetence killed a woman.
the incompetence starts with the incompetent who signed his academy diploma
Officer should not have been texting. This is a very sad and horrifying story.
Condolences to their family and friends.
He killed that lady texting his wife this is so dark
Prayers and condolences to both families
This is murder, the family should sue the crap out of the department
He was texting and driving about making his first arrest, with a woman handcuffed in the backseat. This would be charged and prosecuted as manslaughter and presented as so if it were not law enforcement. The deputy was distracted and killed that woman...great job serving and protecting.
Distracted driving!!! Texting and driving is a serious crime in Tennessee especially if it takes a life !!! Y’all keep calling this an accident. This is not an accident. This is negligence, texting and driving. Don’t care where he just moved from. If he just moved from somewhere and he’s not familiar with the roads, then he should take more precaution should have take more precautions, and they both wouldn’t be dead, call it what it is it’s not an accident this is negligence !!!!
Sorry but this sounds sketchy as hell.
As usual Law Enforcement is all choked up about their own but not about the innocent woman they got killed.
Yeah while he texted bragging on his arrest.. he was not protecting and serving.. he was breaking the law..
Absolutely
@@walterstrickland9683are they gonna have a procession for the woman???
Not only do they not have any condolences for the person that they murdered in the back of the car they now are trying to blame her for maybe distracting the cop
AND THAT'S HOW IT WILL PLAY OUT .... HER FAULT!
No dash or body cams in Meigs County
Woulda suck to be handcuffed in the locked back seat when your driver decides to go boating
No sympathy for that idiot sheriff's deputy, he killed a wife and mother. 😢
Why would he open his window and not the back window. The passenger could have escaped.
We have thousands of boat ramps in Minnesota, I’ve never seen one where the highway directly goes to the water.
It's really crazy how many we have here in Tennessee. They are where there used to be ferry ramps.
It’s not the highway!!! It’s a little road with a million boat ramp signs and reflectors, the ones that go “thimp thump”all the wY across the road at multiple points to it. It would be absolutely impossible to NOT know he was comin up on something.
Really blaming 🙄 the passenger 😢 wow
There should be a gate.
Probably hasn't had or needed a gate before. This is a people problem, not a gate problem.
Can't as that is a public boat ramp. It doesn't close and that would be a violation of law
@@RANDOMNATION907this has happened more times than can counted. Only stop ahead painted on the road he had no business on to begin with
Why are they speaking like it wasnt his fault. He was reckless
Damn thats messed up.
Obviously the cop wasn't wearing his seat belt. That's breaking the law while enforcing the law. I noticed nobody has mentioned that, but it hasn't gone unnoticed.
That woman was murdered
"user"= SCUM BOT
@@ghostmantagshome-er6pb that's exactly what it looks like happened, because it is! So go back to sucking the cops boots and be sure to believe everything your government and main stream media tells you !
No , they will investigate themselves and find themselves to be heroes !@@ghostmantagshome-er6pb
Sure family will file lawsuit against police department station
They are not telling us the truth.
Wouldn't the officer have called in her name or something before arresting her? Don't they usually run a check regardless? Maybe I'm wrong.
someone on another video left a message claiming she wouldn't give up her ID. So chances are it was another illegal arrest buy another incompetent cop who thought he was above the law and was ok to be texting and driving at a high rate of speed. As you know cops are legally allowed to do illegal things..' rules for for thee but not for me' is their slogan.
Family is notified before the public are.
She is probably just another r@pe victim erased by the blue line mafia member@@swmplvr
Correct ✅
Oh my god, how awful! Imagine being the arrestee and knowing you’re going down and there’s no way for you to escape. You’re in handcuffs and locked in. Terrible.
Meigs county and the sheriff’s department should be held accountable for their negligence. 1. That road had prior accidents. 2. There’s no excuse for irresponsible law enforcement, texting while driving? Speed & not paying attention amounted to a preventable death/homicide. Sheriff’s spokesman said nothing about the helpless woman that was killed while left in charge by the deputy, despicable selfish.
don't forget THEY hired someone that evidently was a complete idiot !!
Yes the city not ever fix ramp duh wake up dummies ....
Prayer's to the FAMILY 🙏🙏
"the"? Which family are you giving prayers to and which are you showing disdain for with that "the" family instead of both families
So the deputy killed someone?
Sounds like the cop was doing everything in that car except for driving.
Protect and serve my azz.
Poor woman received a death sentence over a petty crime with no victim.
Sounds awfully fishy
My condolences to both families, and these law enforcement officials are horrible to not mention anything about that poor woman.
I hope the family seeks justice.
So....negligent homicide victim in back seat?
What?
