Playing "what if" is either an interesting mental gyration, or a fool's journey. I keep going back to the fact that there were 4 B-26s on Midway, borrowed from the Army Air Corpa. They were fitted with torpedoes, told how to drop them, and told to "go get 'em" The B-26s did what they could given the minimal training and defective torpedoes. After they made their runs and dropped their torpedoes, which all missed, it is reported that they all flew over the Japanese carriers as a part of the first wave of planes launched from Midway. One plane even strafed a Japanese carrier with its forward-firing machine guns. IF they had just been armed with their normal bomb loads, they could have made their normal bomb runs and at least inflicted some damage, if not catastrophic damage on at least a few of them. Just tell the pilots, as a part of the pre-flight briefing, to come in from their sterns and drop their bombs on the flight decks. But fate dictated otherwise. We ended up winning the battle, but judicious use of those 4 B-26s would have been a big help.
How many U boats did Germany lose? And how many did they have at the end of the war ? And who ended up stalking who ?
Is it Civilian Air Patrol or Combat Air Patrol?
combat air patrol refers to aircraft carriers fighter planes to protect the fleet…
Yes.
