I have a suggestion. After all of the trauma the guys here got. Make them uh, react to something normal. Like Red and Gold's battle. Or Red just battling the gym leaders.

most homes are supposed to teach them the dangers life has in store for them people who want to harm them or hurt them for no good reason other then "just because I can."
otherwise you might end up like the "missing 401" where you are never found or are found in a strange way.
in pokemon universe 10 year olds are flung out into dangerous wilderness with no proper training and nothing other than "1 war crimes of a starter" or a rat, bird, cat, or bug they caught on route 1.
and people expect them to live.

how long until one of these main characters wind ups dead in a ditch because WE weren't there to watch over them and protect them, even Nintendo says "every game cartridge is its own universe."
