I might be in minority but since I played Dynasty Warriors 8 first, the first game got me into the series I think 8’s story is just as good as 7’s. Is it as emotional as 7, no but I still think the both 7 and 8 are similar.
DW7's ending still send me chills, even if it was rather awkward that Sima Zhao went from fully being King...to suddenly dying just a year into his run.
The guilt must be killing him inside out. But i think he die in relief after he successful ending the chaos and truly united the land (and the princes messed it up)
Historically, Sima Zhao did not participate in this battle. Instead, command and acting imperial authority were both given to Deng Ai. After Liu Shan surrendered to him, Deng Ai used such authority to appoint him as the Acting General of Chariots of Cavalry (驃騎將軍, Biāoqí Jiāngjūn), and he also granted titles to other former Shu nobles and officials. He would allow Liu Shan to continue living in his palace and he even went to visit him and his family later. Deng Ai even went as far as to forbid the Wei army to plunder and pillage Chengdu, and ordered that daily activities in the city resume as per normal. Deng Ai's kindness and generosity very much pleased the denizens of Shu, with some former Shu officers even becoming his subordinates later.
@@LOLMAN9538 yeah but later Deng Ai became a bad leader and Zhong Hui took this opportunity to slander Deng Ai to overthrow him. Jiang Wei and the other former officers of Shu who disliked Wei joined Zhong Hui and then captured Deng Ai and his son then killed them

All Shu did was gather resources and attack north. It provided no future other than war for its people. The founders fought to restore the Han dynasty, but the Han was long dead by that point and wasn’t coming back. Their descendants weren’t fighting for the Han or restoration, but fighting for their dead parents and grandparent’s memories and dreams, not their own or their own future. Their fight had lost meaning in the present and was now just a self perpetuating burden. Had they stopped and took a look around, perhaps they could see just how stupid and tragic it all was. They weren’t living for themselves. Sima Zhao wasn’t lying when he said Shu was dead. It was dead inside.
When Jiang Wei heard the news Liu Shan and the Shu kingdom surrendering to Wei, he was furious and still wanted to take Sima Zhao's head, but shortly after the surrender, one of Sima Zhao's loyal officers, Zhong Hui turned against him and worked alongside Jiang Wei to kill defeat Sima Zhao and Liu Shan.
