Volkswagen Scirocco 2 - A controversial story

Today, I’m going to tell you the story of a car surrounded by a lot of controversies and weird things - Volkswagen Scirocco.
We will speak about two first generations of Scirocco produced in 1974-1981 and 1981-1992. And a little about the third, “lost” generation of this car known under a different name.
It wasn’t the fastest car on the planet, but it handled really great in corners. And in its GTi and GTX versions, especially with 16 valves, it wasn’t actually that slow.
Scirocco is a car that loved by many owners. Yes, it has some weirdness in its history, but this car now also gives you some feeling of being unique and special. At the end of the day, it is those controversies and weird things that make this car really interesting for car enthusiasts now.

The very first car I've owned was a Scirocco 16V. I was dreaming about it for years. Despite the fact being only a kid I've managed to make some money and finally got one in a pretty good shape with 129 horses. Selling that car was the worst decision of my life. Still today miss my little car but I'm checking the market constantly hoping one day I"ll be a Scirocco II owner again.

@@digitalparadigms @t.carpenter_DC2 Thank you both. I just pulled my Slegato out of being ignored in outdoor storage for 12 years, and debating selling it. But seeing it again, sitting it in again, I know there will NEVER be another car so close to being a street legal go-cart and being so fun. And with so much storage space with the seats down. I may just have to get her running again. Such simple tech and so reliable. (1.8L 8V here with an automatic tranny).

The first European car I bought. Went from a 68 442 to an 81 Scirocco and I have to say it remains one of my favorite cars. Obviously not as fast as the 442 but honestly just as much fun to drive. I even got 39 mpg. I have seriously kicked around getting another one.
