    Cherie! Great video :)
    I have been watching your channel since your exchange student days, and I used to think I will have to live vicariously through your videos forever because I never got the opportunity to study there but I decided to quit my job and go to uni at 23. It has been so daunting but now I am going to Korea next year to study. I just wanted to thank you because you have always been an inspiration to me and made me want to keep trying to find a way to Korea. It feels like a dream come true.

    I have no regrets, and I want to continue living in Korea in the future :) good luck to you!

      @@FlamingMVkeys Yes, what I would recommend is learning Korean.
      Speaking Korean opens up many opportunities!
      There aren't as many foreigners who can speak Korean as you might think, so many companies would be interested in hiring you.
      Since Korean culture has become popular worldwide, even if you were to return to the United States, if you can speak Korean, Korean companies in the U.S. or companies related to Korea would be interested in you. ☺
      One of the advantages of living in Korea is that there are many beautiful countries nearby that you can easily travel to, such as Japan, Vietnam, and Thailand..etc. all just a few hours away. Korea is a beautiful country. While I enjoy visiting USA (to see my family) , I find living in Korea more fun (to me). You only live once, after all. :)

    I am so so excited for you! You may remember me, I've been watching you off and on since early 2017. At the time, I was 13 and in 8th grade, and studying abroad seemed forever away. I am now a 20 year old junior in college, studying abroad next fall! This is the first video I've been notified of from you in a while, but I am so proud of how far you've come! Maybe we'll even end up there at the same time :) I really grew up with you and your content, and am super excited to be in this spot with you around the same time. Thank you for keeping this channel up and running :')

    As a fellow 26 year old so much of this video is so refreshing, I have been wanting to travel and make more life movements and I have finally decided to go travel to the UK next year which has been a big dream of mine. So many people continue to tell me I should be so much more “ahead” in life but I think everyone’s idea of “success” and a happy life looks so different and I am moving in my life to make myself more happy and grow in the way I can and want! You go girl, you are awesome and may God bless you as you continue in your journey in Korea.

    Just remember to not overwhelm yourself, it's ok if it's not as easy as it seems, give yourself grace and remember to breathe.
    You will do amazing, it's a very long process to fully learn so you don't need to rush, take your time and if you fail the first time, stand back up, dust yourself off and try again. Never give up. You can do it, I have faith in you, good luck and may God bless you.

    Wishing you all the best. I’ve lived in Asia and the US and agree that the set up stage is the hardest- banks, registration, phone & internet - along with the language barrier they always seem to require that one document/piece of info you dont have at hand. After getting thru this with international lingo=lots of hand waiving, we all get there and finally can move on to enjoying the country.

    Yeah....'making a life for yourself in South Korea'. I think it is part of the puzzle of how to explain things. The first two times I went, wasn't too difficult to go back home, but on the third trip, I started to have a social life and made new friends and that time, it was difficult to leave. I am older, so I have a career to complete back home, in the next few years, so I cannot just stay there, unless I become a successful digital nomad. So Cherie is right, once you start to feel at home and having a social life, you start to feel happily pulled-in.

    I rarely genuinely used Japanese as a lingua franca (common language) even when I was in Japan. The few times I did it was really cool and made studying the language to a conversational level feel much more rewarding than just speaking to Japanese people. Maybe you and your roommate will be good language partners. Then again, it sounds like she has Taiwanese friends in Seoul already. If people can stay in their language bubbles they often will - hopefully not though and you all have to become Korean speakers.

Part of me still likes to flirt with the idea of being a single lady doing adventurous things. I remember getting a bank account in Japan was an experience. I think my Japanese was N3 or TOPIK 3 when I did it. The people at the bank were terrified of me because they didn't speak English and didn't have experience speaking to foreigners. When I did Visa paperwork the Japanese guy also didn't speak English but he could speak easy Japanese just like a language teacher. You could tell he had lots of experience speaking to foreigners. The bank people did not. I got through that and thought if my Japanese were any worse I might not have succeeded. I would have had to convince a Japanese acquaintance to come help me. It didn't have to be that hard but many Japanese people just don't know how to change their speaking style to make it easier for foreigners. Especially in businesses (IE Shopping) they often just formal Japanese because it's how they're supposed to speak but it's the most difficult style of speech.

    한국에 오래 거주하거나 국적을 얻는 사람 90%이상은 한국인과 결혼한 경우임.
    무어가 다시 한국에 온 것도 남친이 있기 때문임. 한국이 아무리 좋아도 솔로로는 오래 살기 힘든 곳임. 요즘은 국제결혼이 흔해졌음. 그리고 거리를 다니는 외국인중 상당수는 한국에 거주하는 외국사람둘임. 그리고 은근히 많은 이들이 한국인과 결혼하기를 희망하고 있음.

    Cherie, if you plan on staying in Korea for 3 years then we expect you to be super fluent in Hangeul by then. Please don't be one of those internationals who come to live in a country for several years and don't know anything about the language or the meaning of their culture. The kind of people who never leave Hongdae. We know you will flourish and thrive there!💪

    • @lisey5420
      @lisey5420 10 місяців тому +5

      I agree with you about needing to learn language and culture when you want to live in a country, but I don't get your point regarding cherie because she is 1) fluent in Hanguel and 2) already speaks and studies Korean 🤨🤨

    • @blackbelt2000
      @blackbelt2000 10 місяців тому

      @@lisey5420 I think Cherie mentioned she was 'ok' at Hangeul but not fluent which is why she is studying in Korea now. My point was only for her to make the most out here time there and not just fall into the trap of going thru the motions of everyday living. Hanging out with other expats and only speaking english with them is easy and natural but will ultimately hinder her growth. Getting out your comfort zone is the best way to learn. Many expats don't do that. Just my two cents.

    • @FlamingMVkeys
      @FlamingMVkeys  10 місяців тому +14

      Hangeul is the writing system in Korea, not the language. So if you’re talking about that, then I am fluent in Hangeul 😅 and I find this comment a bit strange since I am literally spending thousands of dollars to go to a very highly esteemed Korean language program in Korea for a year to study Korean full time. I don’t get the point of you reminding me that if I’m going to live in Korea for awhile, I should learn the language well. Because this is exactly what I’m spending my time and money doing right now. Also, me wanting to go to graduate school in Korea will require me to know a very decent amount of Korean, too. So, I don’t understand why you felt the need to remind me to learn Korean (not Hangeul) and warn me not to be
      that foreigner who knows no Korean and only stays in Hongdae.

    • @blackbelt2000

    • @Seliza1720

      Don’t say “we”. We (her real subs) don’t expect anything from Cherie except for her to experience the best life possible, support her, and cheer her on. Based on your comment, you haven’t been watching her videos for long. She has traveled all over Korea, and does activities that puts her out of her “comfort zone”. Including SOLO traveling in Korea. She also has Korean friends. Saying you are trying to “cheer her on” is just trying to gaslight her, considering how hateful your comment was - that’s painfully obvious. Editing it and typing the last sentence, doesn’t change your original opinion. Think before you type, being a internet bully isn’t a good look.
