    I work for a small, local brewery. I just asked the production guys if we had any damaged kegs and we had about 12 that were unable in the market. So you can easily go to a local brewery and ask about damaged kegs and pay cash and even pick up a few different sizes.

    Great channel. Great content as well. The keg clean and press is an exercise I see at lot of people struggle with. Would you do a video about technique and accessory movement to improve this event? Maybe throw something in about the Bartos Keg since most competitions use that keg when there is a keg event.

    I’ll be honest.. not sure what it’s like in the US but kegs are often left out back of pubs for hours at a time in the U.K.. And 1 or 2 may have rolled my way over the years..

    Thanks for the video. Could you do (or recommend) a video on training/programming with kegs and possibly a tutorial on the basic lifts/movements with a keg? The video you did on lifting the atlas stones was excellent!

    I cut a gallon in half to use as a funnel to pour the old beer into another gallon. Then I poured four cups of sanitary bleach and diluted it with two gallons water. Caped it and shook it up. Going to let it sit over night. Then shake it up in the morning and let it sit another day upside down. Then I'll dump it all out, let it drip over night. Then flip it back over and let it sit until it's all evaporated. The two inch end cap he shows is the exact one they have at Home Depot.

    If my research is correct a 30 Litre keg filled with clean sand would weigh about 50 kgs = 110 pounds.
    Regards

    • @lucasjohns5657
      @lucasjohns5657 6 років тому

      It will probably be heavier. I have a 30 L keg filled with water. Filled to the brim, it weights 43kg. With sand, you should be looking for something closer to 60kg.

    Currently getting all the equipment together and building my own stuff to start my Strongman style workouts. I don’t plan on ever competing I’ve just been lifting weights for 12 years and have really just gotten bored of the standard Olympic lifts in the gym. Any recommendations for a guy who’s decently strong transitioning to strongman style lifting? Thanks!

    Good stuff! Can you talk about your nutrition and supplements? You've got an amazing physique, we can see your workouts, but what does it take to fuel that body? Would love to hear more about how much you eat and what exactly, which supplements you take and so on.

    • @BrianAlsruheOfficial
      @BrianAlsruheOfficial  8 років тому +3

      +stiffsailor Sure man, but it is more basic than you would believe. I really mainly eat things that had a Mom or grew out of the ground. I make sure I get LOTS of healthy fats and try to hit around 250 grams of protein a day, but I never have, nor never will, count calories.
      For supplements, I use Protein Powder, Have tried creatine with mixed results, use fish oil and now I just started using pre-workout because BPI Sports sent me a free container of it. Thats basically it. Like i said, it's not too interesting...If you want a more in-depth look, I have written a lot about my diet on my training log. The link to it is in the description. Thanks for asking man!

    • @madtitan9639
      @madtitan9639 7 років тому +2

      Stan Efferding says if you eat a lot of red meat that creatine won't do anything for you. But if you don't eat red meat, it will. I get most of my protein from eggs (I have about 30 hens), and notice a difference when I take creatine. I've only used Kre-Alkalyn brand creatine, so I can't comment on any other brands. If you switch up your protein sources, creatine might help you on non-red meat days. I hope that helps someone make some sense out of their diet+supplements.

    So I'm just wondering, since kegs are harder to come by... I was thinking of buying small plastic or metal barrels in the 15 gallon range instead of kegs. They'd be lighter, but cheaper, and I'm wondering if the dimensions would still work for strongman. I feel like they would....what do you think?

    • @PJAGB156

      Matthew Montgomery just buy a plastic barrel, theyre big, akward and even filled with just water get well over 250lbs

    I know this is an older video, so may not get a response, but I was wondering how you go about making sure it's balanced? Say you're making up a lighter keg to learn the movements, but still have some weight, but doing so would only fill the keg halfway up with sand.
    Or do kegs usually have whatever's inside free to move around, and the movement is part of the lift?

    • @hostole
      @hostole 11 місяців тому

      I know I'm 5 months late but I'd say embrace the imbalance! It provides its own challenge and you can fill up more the strongest you get.

    For lead just say its toxic to skin so wear glove unless like you said "you want eyes". Also I work at a brewery and the only reason I'm seeing this video is because our welder is making a bunch of 14in comp kegs as well as full sized kegs for heavier trainers.

      @shaun0621 8 років тому +1

      How do you fit BJJ into your workout routine? I used to training BJJ 5-6 times a week, but never lift weights. Its been years since I've trained BJJ. I wouldn't know how to fit in BJJ and strength and conditioning without it effecting my lifts.

    • @BrianAlsruheOfficial
      @BrianAlsruheOfficial  8 років тому +2

      Honestly, when I am rolling a lot (5-6x a week) it replaces my conditioning and I do less assistance work. I honestly can't find the time to focus on both 100%. Maybe I can now that I have my own gym but I won't really go back to rolling a lot until after Nationals and Maryland's strongest man. Can't afford t get hurt right now

    • @shaun0621
      @shaun0621 8 років тому

      Awesome, that make sense. I bet you're a beast at BJJ. Most guys in BJJ don't strength train, I've always wondered how much it would improve my BJJ. Thanks for the reply!

    • @BrianAlsruheOfficial
      @BrianAlsruheOfficial  8 років тому +3

      It has definitely helped man! I think the key is to continue training BJJ while getting bigger and stronger. That way you grow into techniques as you grow into your body and don't slow down or get clumsier. At least that worked for me!
