Tekin is the best rc Electronics on the market I've had my Tekin 411-P2. Installed in my RC10T since 1993.
This is an awesome esc I have all three generations and tekin doesn't fail to impress
Hey Rich
Thanks for the unboxing, as usual very informative!
Might have just be the camera angle or the colour highlights it more but the outer plastic body/cover seems to not be flush in numerous places (in both ESCs).
There seems to be bulges and dips along the join. I know it makes no difference to performance or reliability of the ESC, but if I'm going to drop that much money on an ESC, the overall finish would be a factor.
I personally would have liked a colour change, I just think white is not a great colour for RC off road components.
For a basher like myself, Tekin is just not a viable option. But I'm sure for those of you that race, where ever minute difference can make or break the race, it is on paper an impressive ESC.
Cheers for the upload
Garszy
I have the Tekin Rx8 gen 2 and Randy Pikes from Tekin told me that the Hotwire 3 will work with it what have you heard, thank you
James Mason I think you're good.....make sure you're running the latest software.
I have an RC8B3e that I run on a track with Tekin G2 2050kv motor. I want to buy a Tekin G2 2650kv motor for speed runs. Would it be cool to just solder in some plugs so I can quick swap out between the two? Once again, great video Rich. I am super excited to see the 1/8 scale project you got going.
One of my favorite Tekin Speed Controllers.
mine too!
Not sure why it took them so long to release almost the same product....
All that and no fan included?
It comes with a fan
Thanks for the review Richard. A question that I always ask and never get an answer: how is it rated for 300A (and Gen2 at 220A) in such a small package? That's higher than the max rating of 1/5 ESC, and those are huge... it really makes no sense. They claim 300A "as per manufacturer specs", any idea what that means? Would this ESC be able to power a 1/5 vehicle?
Samer Bouez thats burst current with it being 6s max i wouldnt expect more than 150 amps constant, 300amps 25%duty cycle
Can the RX8 handle the tekin type d 4 pole drag motor?
The RX8 is pretty much the do-everything ESC. It should be able to handle it fine
What application would you cut off voltage on your this esc why would you do it if I’m running a 2s battery
Meaning "lipo cut off"?
I race sc modified dirt oval with asc6.1. I'm looking for a powerful esc to run in it. How does this stack up to the xr8 that everyone seems to run. I would assume tekin would be better quality but a ton of racers at my use the xr8 or xr10 hw. U have had both so is the tekin worth the extra money
IMO, the Tekin RX8 Gen3 is my favorite 1/8th scale ESC and even for some high powered 1/10th scales. It's smoother than the XR8 Plus, smaller footprint and I like the programmability a tad more with the Hotwire 3 / Phone app.
@@TheRCNetwork ok awesome. Thanks for the quick reply.
I'm looking for a waterproof rock racing motor and esc for my wraith since tekin came out with the Rx4 do you think they will come out with a waterproof u4 motor
Killer Racing not sure on that one. I know that the Pro4/Pro4HD are due for an update....just not sure about waterproof. Tekin has always steered clear of waterproof (with the exception of the RX4) as they are race level electronics.
Thanks for the unboxing !!!
Anytime SM7
Nice and light weight. My hobbywing ezrun G2 is 215: GRAM and the 2250kv motor is 455 grams way to heavy for my buggy, supposed to be for truggy and monster trucks, hobby shop thought I was a basher. No I race. Might get the tekin for my buggy keep the hobbywing for a truggy later on if I get one
EZrun is sensorless as well. If you race, you'll want sensored
@@TheRCNetwork the Gen 2 has a sensor plug. And only two motors at the moment can be used. 4278 , 4268 I got both now
hi RCN, you do the best reviews of RC's and I wanted to know if you will ever do a review of the Traxxas TRX-4?
Thanks for watching and the great comments! I'm not sure on the TRX4....I know a lot of people are giving this new scaler a lot of attention, but I'm waiting....
One thing, kV should be Kv the, v should be a subscript. It's not KiloVolts, it's a motor constant, it's the unloaded peak RPM per Volt also known as the back EMF. So a 5700 Kv motor has a theoretical unloaded RPM of 47,880 at 8.4 Volts, for example. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Motor_constants
An electrical engineer, I am not, sir.......
The RCNetwork I'm sorry didn't mean to come off short, I had meant to edit some of that edge... it's a common mistake. I'm a fan of your content and appreciate the way you make things accessible for beginners.
No worries.
Xerun XR8 is waterproof no?
Nope, it is not. The EZRun series is, but they're sensorless. Most race systems that are sensored are not waterproof
Does these have an adjustable BEC?
Yes they do
dims looks to be off on the box.
2.2" isn't 50.8 mm
weird.
dimensions on their website for this unit are: 1.5 x 2.2 x 1.4" / 38 x 55.8 x 35.5 mm
not only are they off on the box (their conversion is fubar. who ever did that has NFI how many millimeters are in an inch). But the actual GEN 3 case is *not* to the sizes they list. Mine measures 1.595 x 2.256 x 1.486 ( 40.5 x 57.3 x 37.75mm).
Put simply. They are off by a country mile in more ways then one.
hi Rich, lovely review as allways! i have a huge question... I saw just now a guy putting a Tekin Rx8 gen 2 in his Xmaxx...yupp you see that correctly... what do you think? will it work on the long run? i'm actually considering the Gen 3 wich is obviously even more powerfull instead of the Hobbywing mAx6 or max5 (not a hobbywing fan obviously). Thanks for your response in advance!
This Gen 3 has a flawout the box as they still haven't made it waterproof. For a speedo designed for 8th scale buggies, you'd of thought they would have done that by now?
marksapollo like I said in the video, this is a "race" level ESC. To my knowledge, there's not much for races that happen in the rain/wet weather. There's plenty of option for waterproof ESC's but they're typically a lesser product.
The RCNetwork Maybe in America, but in other parts of the world, it rains, like in the UK. And what about club meets? If it rains and you have this you can't race.
marksapollo marksapollo I hear ya, but if it rains, I have no desire to go drive my 1/8th scale Buggy outdoors.....it just doesn't make sense. It not only jeopardizes your electronics whether they're waterproof or not, but your bearings, transmissions, etc. and then the clean up! I opt for running indoors if the weather is an issue. That's just me though. I guess what I don't get is that Tekin makes a great product and the first thing a commentator says is that it's "flawed" based on the use that "they" want to use it for.
will this fit in the EA b6d or b6
PLease don't put this in a B6/d.....It doesn't need this amount of power. Look at the Tekin RSX or RS (depending on motor turn)for that: ua-cam.com/video/ffvrvKa5RpA/v-deo.html Here's pricing on the RSX: amzn.to/2rKgP59 and the RS: amzn.to/2q57WWz
why does it have a fidget spinner on top?
Nice catch! lol
gives about 500 more amps of current capability
Did anyone see how Tekin spelled reverse? "Revvverse"
Nice!
WOOOOOOOOOO!
Thanks Shen!
Does it have any capacitors
No
it has 3 capacitors inside buddy
I am very surprised that this esc comes with a plastic case. What a shame. Considering its price tag, this esc should have a superb durable and great looking finish.
Plastic is perfectly fine for this ESC and easily replaceable for $9. you can even dye the shite to any color you want
I agree should be aluminum and yes you can buy cases for cheap but you've got to remove and re solder everything plus you've got to catch it in time. My RX8 G3 case broke during a buggy race and 2 capacitors broke off. I loved the esc but that was a huge letdown.
I'm surprised it only can only handle 1400 kV on 6S. I was hoping to get a 1900 kV for an on-road 1/8 car and use 4S for track racing but throw in a 6S on occasion for serious speed. Seems that is a no with this ESC.
The ESC isn't the issue. Tekin will only recommend certain voltages on their kv ratings for the motors. Have I fudged a bit on that? Yep, you just gotta watch temps and know that they won't warranty it if it fails. In logical terms, a 1900kv motor should be able to handle 6s depending on gearing, weight of the vehicle and terrain
I would like to try that in my axial bomber but can't afford it.
That'd be a nice touch lol
yah it would
just save a little bit more, and you'll be able to afford it...
How much was it ?
Tower has it for $219.99, but they offer coupons to get that price below 200.00.... if you act soon.
🤘
Thanks for stopping by!
@TheRCNetwork no problemo. I'm tryna decide between the rx4 and the mamba monster for my smt10 mega truck build. I'm leaning toward the tekin. Do you have any opinions on it? Do you know which is quieter? The mamba x may be better than the mamba monster, i dunno. I'm still leaning toward tekin. Thanks for any input 🤘y'all have a badass day🤘
I'd still say Tekin RX4. I had quite a few bad experiences with Castle in the past. Mostly with the Mamba Max Pro's and Mamba Monsters. I know for sure the Tekin will run smoother! Plus the RX4 can run nearly any motor
@TheRCNetwork yeah i like that the rx4 will run brushed and brushless, that's a pretty big bonus. Thanks for yer time and help 🤘🍻🤘
Drone 1set. (Stay fly) ok thank you.
Thanks for stopping by
I like Tekin, but why white???
I personally like the look and it's kind of their trademark rx8 color now
It just doesn't match my other stuff. That's why I ordered the black Gen 2 case and swapped it over. I hope they offer a black option for the Gen 3 as well!
www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXGRLS&P=7
I think you should do a review on the SMC 150a esc for 1/8 cars it's competing and beating the tekin in price at 130 and has the adjustability and performance leaving tekin behind!
Nothing against SMC and I do like their products, but what you get from Tekin is a complete "global" experience. What that means is you get US based warranty and support, a team driver network complete with sample set up sheets and a Team Manager (Randy Pike) that actually answers questions. Sure, a cheaper alternative is nice, but there's usually a reason why something is cheaper
There fans are terrible. On my second brand new one and it grinds like no other..... disappointed.
It isn't waterproof 😐
The RX4 is....nearly the same specs as the RX8 Gen 3
@@TheRCNetwork okay
why are you saying kilovolts bro get it right man. it's not called kilovolt lol. do you even know what kilovolt on amount of power that shit will fry yo shit. kV does not mean kilovolts let's make that clear. k represent 1000 ok and the V represents per revolution so there for 1000 per revolution per volts. now you know alot of people get this wrong
