For the person who asked about why the cat isn’t using the litter box. It might be because cats are pretty hygienic and typically need 2 litter boxes. Of course not all cats care but if your cat refuses to use it adding a second box and making sure that the boxes are clean could help.
@@pookiedookiedoo this yes!! Take them to the vet if their behavior becomes weird like that.. my 5 year old cat gets UTI pretty easy so we have to watch what she eats and stick to one food that is good for her bladder like urinary care foods
I can say that as a female, my physical therapist told me to go buy a new bra, because the straps on the one I had was too thin, and not good for me. Pinching nerves, digging into the skin, etc. It did do a difference 👍
I had a similiar experience where it was leaving a mark on my back. My family originally thought it was a mole because it was circular but just like he said once I changed to sport bras it went away.
Just a small posture tip for those looking at posture correction. I'm a lifelong gamer and I have struggled with posture my whole life. I found for a long time that forcing myself to have correct posture was almost painful in how uncomfortable it was. I started rock climbing and part of my training became working on strengthening my back and shoulders. Particularly doing inclined pull-ups (since I wasn't strong enough when I started to do a pull-up) and hanging scapula pull-ups changed my posture in like two weeks-1 month. For my posture the fix was simply strengthening my back and shoulders slightly. After like a week or two I already didn't have and discomfort forcing myself to have correct posture. Now when I'm gaming I make sure I remind myself every now and then to sit up better, and my posture has drastically improved. Do a bit of strength training a couple times a week, even just 20 minutes twice a week will help!
From what i hear from various youtube doctors, "straight back good posture" is a bit of a myth, and holding the same posture for long periods of time tends to cause discomfort no matter what that posture is. But also yes, strengthening the relevant muscles is one of the best ways to prevent injury
My grandfather was a Dr (he would be 101 this year if he was still around) and he gave me the best life advice "You should ensure you spend money on two things in life....your shoes and your mattress.....you spend almost all of you life either sleeping or on your feet so make sure you can do both comfortably!"
Veterinary Nurse here: If your cat doesn't use the litter box, try one of the following: - Always have 1 litter box more than you have cats - The area where they eat/drink must be as far away as possible from the litter box or they might not use it - Have the litter box in a quiet place If all of the above are fine or your cat only recently started not using it, take them to a vet. If your cat is having a discomfort in any way, the first thing they do is stop using the litter box. :)
Great tips! I'm not a vet, but I'm a cat person! I've heard that different cats prefer different litter or different sized boxes. Also keeping it clean is crucial!
Cat owner here, and most important use odorless litter, and clean box twise a day from used things, once a week chanse all litter and clean box really good. Most cats dont like smelly box, any ways. Those different smells are only for lazy humans to cower pee or poop smell. Cats have so much better nose than we humans, so trust them when they show it.
I just recently got some shape wear due to some insecurities and comments I was getting, and I didn't look much into it, but watching this was like a message sent by the universe. I feel uncomfortable wearing it, and now I know it can affect my health in soooooo many ways. So, I think I'll just continue with my therapy, work on myself, and throw that shape wear away. Thanks for the advice.
One thing that seems really simple and will be awkward at first is writing some positive affirmations and sticking them next to or on my mirror. That way every time I look in the mirror, I read those positive affirmations while looking at myself in the mirror. Over time it has made a big difference and I don’t have as much negative self-talk. Also, anytime I catch myself thinking negative things about myself, I come up with three positive things that I like or love about myself. Changing the way I think about myself and perceive myself has made a big difference overtime. 💗 Also, putting a photo of myself as a child in a place that I look at often is helpful because it is really difficult to not be kind and loving to a child. So it reminds me to be kind and loving to my own inner child. Hopefully that makes sense. We are all lovable and deserving of love, but we have to start with learning to ourselves. I love you and you are beautiful inside and out. I hope that you can get to the point of loving and accepting yourself - flaws and all. Because that is what makes us human and unique individuals. 💞
Shape wear is okay as long as you're moving when wearing it and for a short period like 1 hr or so a day. It's definitely bad to wear when and after eating a meal. I usually wear it in the morning when exercising on an empty stomach then i remove it and relax for the rest of the day.
As a nurse, I honestly would say the best thing I ever give by a patient was a heartfelt thank you note. I still have all the ones I've been given❤ its nice to go back when your having a rough patch and be reminded that you did make a difference and someone saw it and cared enough to thank you.
PLEASE do the clothes video and expand more on hygiene needs. Also, talk about the differences in clothing needs/hygiene needs for different body types (male vs female, do different ethnicities need specifics, overweight people vs normal weight vs underweight, etc). There's a lot there!
I would love to watch a video on this topic as well. I knew about properly cleaning clothes you workout in and not wearing tight fitting clothes for extended periods of time, but I would love to have Dr. Mike make an entire video on this topic, as well as various fabrics, does organic fabrics and natural dyes make difference, etc.
Yes also active (ie sweaty ) Wheelchair users. @Doctor Mike I struggle the balance between hygiene, friction sores and warmth for bottom half, bottom of body sweats but legs get overly cold and don't always realise until after a 'run'
The clothes - physical/mental health question is really interesting. I remember reading a study that people who were allowed to wear their own clothes while in hospital instead of hospital gowns (when a hospital gown wasn't important medically, of course) were discharged sooner, reported less stress during their stay, and were less likely to return to hospital soon after being discharged.
Yeah, but why do you need study for that? All other countries do allow patients to stay in their clothes, it doesn't make any difference . Even more, if they dresd you up in the hospital clothes at least you ve had some attention from the stuff.
Yep, called PJ paralysis. Patients are less likely to mobilise in hospital gowns and who can blame them with most having your rear on display. Rehab wards in particular push for patients to bring in their own clothes but with prolonged stays, washing needs to be considered. Sadly expensive to have washing sent out to be done, especially for elderly patients there after say a hip fracture who will often be on ward until house modifications can be done and without family nearby who can do the washing and bring it back for them.
@@classicambo9781 tip to prevent "backside exposure " ask for 2nd gown and wear it like a robe! They can still have easy access, quickly unsnap it in emergency, don't have to worry about damaging your clothes etc. 😊
Studies that make you think "why is that necessary?" are needed because they confirm suspicions/theories and can be used as evidence to inform policy. You can't inform policy with only anecdotes and unquantified correlation.
As someone who has struggled with clothing all my life, I’d LOVE to see a more in depth video. Especially as someone who wore very large, uncomfortable bras and compression binders. I feel like the discussion around these things is still really lacking in the medical community!
@@EmmaJohnsonShenanigans if you have breasts on the larger side, they can feel sore because they’re just heavy weights hanging off your chest. It often causes back pain as well. Breast pain is also associated with menstruation so depending on where you’re at in your cycle, that may affect it too. Mine also hurt sometimes when not wearing a bra. It’s not always that comfortable. And I’m a D cup for comparison. For you not being able to find bras In Your size, you can’t find them bc it’s a common size! That means everyone else is buying them before you get to buy them. Companies also suck at catering to customer demand sometimes. Hope any of that helps a bit!
@@stellarae8257 thank you and i checked what sizes they had even if the shelf there was empty, and it just didn’t go high enough. the cup sizes ended at D and the band sizes were 40 for everything above C cups. i needed the opposite, bigger cups but a smaller band and they just don’t make those
@@EmmaJohnsonShenanigans the best thing to do for the right bra size is to go to a specialty store like Soma, or a high end store like Dillard's or Nordstrom. They will actually measure you for the correct size and those stores always carry specialty sizes. If they don't have it in stock they can order it. I used to be a 32 F before my reduction, so I understand your trouble finding a bra.
With the "falling asleep listening to something" question, for the last few years I've been listening to a podcast with a 30 minute sleep timer as I'm falling asleep. It's not as bad as like a movie or a TV show because the sound of people talking is usually in the same volume range for long periods of time, and listening to something I'm interested in actually keeps my mind from racing. I do need to keep the volume only slightly loud enough to hear because then I can drown out the noise as I'm falling asleep. Audiobooks work great for me too.
I think the relationship that a doctor has with their staff is very important. I went to a dentist once and while he was nice to me he was very rude to his staff. I don’t know if he was having a bad day or if he was like that to them all the time. But I felt so bad for them. I never went back.
My sister and her boyfriend had an extended stay at the hospital when my baby niece had Leukemia. They stayed for 9 months and she sadly didn't make it, but we brought my niece's nurses some snack boxes as an appreciation for all they did. They became part of my niece's family so it was the least we could do.
I’m so sorry for your loss. I did the same thing for the nurses who cared for my mom. Got them fragrance reed diffuser with a personal note. I was a critical care nurse and I’ve kept the notes from my patients and their families.
I used to keep my wallet in my back pocket, and I was experiencing odd back pain that I couldn’t figure out the cause of to save my life. I went to the doctor for a regular appointment and told them about my back. When they saw I kept my wallet in my back pocket, they told me that was more than likely my problem because I was constantly sitting on an uneven surface, which was shifting the way pressure was on my back. I started carrying my wallet in my front pocket, and within a week, my back pain was completely gone. Crazy how something that small made such a huge difference.
Yeah, I remember seeing an infographic about this. And it showed a skeleton spine getting bent out of shape sitting on a wallet. Same think about crossing legs
For the nipple chafing, clothing made with material that minimizes friction and “wicks” sweat away will help, so women don’t usually have an issue because they’re already wearing sports bras, or bras in general so the nipples aren’t rubbing against the clothing much. So avoid wearing loose shirts that rub during running or other activity, like cotton tees that get damp and heavy with sweat.
Back when I ran track, I had problems with nipple chafing when I wore my softer cotton T-shirts. As soon as I switched to a polyester-like material that wasn’t as sweat absorbent, I instantly was rid of the problem. This advice is for sure legit.
@@portlandshomlessproblem1728 Instead of bandaids, they make silicone nipple covers for women who wear bra-less dresses or need to hide nipple rings. With LGBQIA+ rights expanding, and tattoos/piercings more common, I'd imagine they have more options today.
For those that want to know about the cat issue, we had that problem with one of our cats at one time. We ended up taking her to the vet and they said she was probably associating the litter box with pain because she had a UTI.
Please make a whole video on clothes/health! how about those barefoot/zero drop shoes and how they may (or may not) have an impact on you? what about compression clothing and vein health? any pollutants in clothes or detergents that might not be the best for us to be exposed to over time? would also love to hear more about lifestyle things like super supportive chairs versus sitting on the floor, stuff like standing desks, or supportive versus softer mattresses, etc.
My mom worked as a bedside nurse a couple years ago (she's in Care Management now) and one of her patients got her an *extremely* expensive watch. She doesn't like stuff on her wrists so she doesn't wear it, but it was very kind of him and it's something she cherishes.
Dr. Mike looking directly into the camera and saying, "Do you want me to have a one-on-one talk with your kitty?" is possibly the single most ... "hydrating" sentence I think I've heard from him.
I found you in August just before contracting Covid. You were my only company during the quarantine. In September, I thought I was recuperating from covid with just a cough and that awful fatigue, still watching you every day, when on the 27th I fell when my legs and arms began to shake uncontrollably and got dizzy. This has continued to this day. I believe I have long covid but it's difficult to find a doctor who will admit it. Doctor Mike, I don't know where I would be if it wasn't for you being there during this terrible time in my life. I'm a retired cert. medical assistant and love your videos. I trained dogs for 25 years so I love Bear and Roxie. Thank you Dr. Mike for making an old lady happy but not healthy, yet. Godspeed.

I have a friend who is in the process of becoming a trauma surgeon. She posts pics of patients’ wounds on her personal Instagram and it drives me up the wall. First, I don’t want to see that and second, there’s obviously no consent for that. She’s said that there’s no way of linking the patient with to the pictures as there’s no faces but I don’t buy it. I think if I were to have surgery I’d add a clause to the contract that I don’t consent to the taking, sharing or use of photographs or video for any purpose other than directly related to the treatment.
I wore shapewear for too long at a wedding last summer (it was a long wedding that started in the afternoon with an after-party that went until after 5AM), and the next day my feet, ankles, and calves were super swollen. I went to the ER because obviously that was terrifying, and I had no idea why it was happening. They explained it was likely edema from my shapewear that was worsened by the extreme heat that day mixed with drinking alcohol. I haven't worn any since because I'm terrified now. It took four days of elevating my feet to get that to go down to normal.

I saved someones life today. Ish. They are a diabetic and their blood sugar was a 60 and their normal is 150 so I was the only one on the bus that had candy so I gave him my jolly ranchers which made it go up.
To answer the litterbox question, your first step is to find the right litter. You want a fine litter that is gentle on the paws, and is unscented (. You want the litter deep enough that the cat can burry its poop, and you want to go with unscented. Place your litterbox in an easy acess location that your cat can find. And a sprinkle of top soil can help encourage your cat to use it especially if ya just grabbed a stray cat off the streets.
i feel like some types of clothes can actually change how you feel mentally too like for example if you wear pajamas ot sweat shirt and sweatpants all the time tbh you may feel a little more depressed thats why i changed what i wear in 6th grade literally all i wore was a sweatshirt and sweatpants and a really big acheivement for me was switiching up what i wear and now i feel happier
I don't feel affected by my clothes at all, i dress all black generally with black boots and piercings but im honestly full of life, a bit antisocial but lively
@@summonersriftgarbage4426 I don't think it the colour of the clothing but rather the item and fabric of the item itself, for example if you wear only comfy clothes/ pj's all the time you might get more insecure or to comfortable in it and that means it's more likely for someone not to change other parts of their life, because they are to dependent on comfort

You should totally make that clothes video! I’m definitely intrigued 😊 I would love to see you talk in depth about chronic conditions that may be difficult to diagnose like chronic fatigue syndrome.
I have a chronic condition that includes fatigue, that is improved by wearing compression socks. I'd love to see a video more about compression clothes and how to care for them.
The insight on clothing prompted me to do some more research. I have completely changed my friends and mine wardrobes and reduced one of my friends eczema flair ups dramatically. I love your vids! Tysm
A lot of IBD, IBS, UC, Crohn’s articles recommend avoiding tight waistbands. In general, paying attention to worsening symptoms and what you are wearing can be good for anything from stomach pains to rashes. Good luck everyone! 💕
Would love to see a more in-depth video on women's clothing + footwear, as finding comfortable yet stylish footwear is something I've struggled with all my life!
Yeah we still have a ways to go making the shoes look attractive, but barefoot shoes do work! Also regarding women's clothing, I highly recommend 100% linen or cotton garments. They are much more comfortable to wear than synthetic fabric because they regulate body temperature -- I've been blown away that I can even layer clothes on hot days simply because they are natural fiber :)
@@Jessica_JonesMost women are fashion of victims. They favor look over comfort and quality. If all teenagers and women favor health, the fashion industry will collapse.
A note for people having trouble getting their cats to use the litterbox: Cats have pretty sensitive paws. Try changing the litter to see if they'll be more willing, and make sure the box is easy for them to get into, though if your cat has been declawed, you might not be able to get them to use the litterbox because of pain. If that's the case, line the box with puppy pads.
Thanks for another great video! Tip for the cat problem = Put strips of paper in the litter box along with the litter (at first put a lot to mask the litter more) and gradually decrease as the cat becomes more accustomed to using the box. Some cats that start out more feral get used to toileting in soft grass or dirt and the paper strips soften up the feel on their paws and help them get used to the change. Hope that helps! 😸
On the topic of shoes, my dr told me that if you can bend your shoes in half they are bad for you. I've followed that advice while purchasing shoes and it's actually helped quite a bit. I'm sure there are moments that flexible shoes are needed like, say, running, but running shoes aren't meant for constant wear.
1:57 I've heard that the body regeneration process is like a blind repairman. When you break the window, he will come, feel it and then change the glass pane. On the other hand, if you somehow break the whole frame from the wall, he will come, feel it and then patch the hole with bricks. He didn't know that there was a window, he only felt the wall.
I've been dealing with pain from a lot of different issues, most recently my doctors have discovered bone loss in my hips & knees due to necrotic blood vessels. If I'm actively in pain, compression gear can help with my circulation and lessen the pain. Otherwise I've been wearing Japanese inspired clothing as I've found the loose fit and style to hang more comfortably on my body. Hopefully after my surgeries I will experience less everyday pain. Right now it kind of takes up most of my day, alleviating the pain of everyday life.
SO many interesting questions this time! I love how you tackled the 'social media doctor' questions. A dedicated video on the impact of clothing would actually be appreciated, Dr. Mike
I love how Dr Mike uploads right when I am binging His videos . I have recently started watching your videos and absolutely love the positivity on your channel. You always inspire me. Thank you for the reliable medical information.
Always have a vet check to rule out a medical issue. Then if cleared use Cat Attract in the litter, make certain to keep box clean, have an extra box somewhere that is kind of private, make certain to use a clumping & low/no dust litter like Dr Elsie's because if kitty is sensitive the dust may bother him/her.
In the clothing video, I'd love to hear more about allergies- I know that some allergies aren't to the fabric itself, but the treatments on the fabric (like formaldehyde). It would be cool to see you collab with someone for it!
As office staff at a clinic I will answer that last question about what to gift your care team. Usually something like cookies, donuts, etc. are very appreciated. Mike has eluded to it before that there always seems to be junk food around clinics and it's totally true. Doctors love to be thought of and get little treats. Just be mindful of allergies, for example one of my providers is allergic to tree nuts.
Hi there doctor Mike, i'm a medical student and watching your videos really makes me love medicine more. Thanks for entertaining alongside teaching us, you are truly an inspiration and a role model for us! Loves from Turkey
My partner has the same issue with nipples and running. He figured out that cotton or good quality technical fabric and soft microfiber aren't as irritating as the clothing one gets for free at sport events (e.g. races, marathons...). Since he stopped using the cheap t-shirts, he doesn't get sore nipples anymore.
OH MY GOSH thank you so much for talking about the compressions gear pulling the oil off your skin part! I recently wore a fitness bra that i worked out in, fell asleep in, and worked out in again when I woke up. When I finally went to shower, my skin was dark and dried out near the tightest parts of the bra. I was confused and kind of scared and just never wore the bra again. Hearing this finally made everything makes sense and I honestly feel so relieved to kind of understand what happened to my skin during those hours of wearing the bra. Thank you so much Dr. Mike!
Run Guard all the way for the nips during running! Nip Guards work well too and stick really well - but they aren't cheap and they're shaped like little stop signs under your shirt. I use Run Guard every run.

I find the information about compression clothing interesting! My housemate has to wear medical grade compression garments for medical reasons. I don't wear heels, but I found out how important it is to get the right fit. I wore a half-size too big for years, which led to calluses on the backs of my heels and also caused a lot of tripping because my feet were coming out of my shoes when I walked. There is very little discussion about wearing shoes that are too big compared to wearing those that are too small.

The best gift for a medical professional costs nothing. Say thank you. You can also write a short note or chat with a supervisor or administrator expressing gratitude. That is very effective and meaningful as they usually only get blasted with complaints. And if, during the course of your treatment, your anger or frustration makes you lash out, apologize. With my condition I had a few times where I got mad, but always apologized afterwards. (Even when the problem was a serious health or safety issue.)

I got a cast cut off and during the procedure I got 3 long but not deep cuts. The procedure was pretty intimidating by itself even though I knew the saw won’t cut me cuz it vibrates, also they didn’t allow my parents to be in the room. When the person was cutting the cast I distinctly remember telling the doctor that it felt like it was burning and it was painful, but he said that the saw couldn’t cut the skin. After the removal I was very upset and I thought that the people were not even apologetic, they were even telling me the cuts were from before. FYI I’m 15 was I entitled to make a ruckus about a small but long cut. This has been on my mind for like 2 months now
As a patient, you should always be entitled to voice your opinion, especially if it's to vocalize your discomfort. It's their job to properly take care of you.
There's never an excuse for a minor child to NOT have a parent with them unless it's surgery or something that would deliver a dangerous amount of radiation (ex: when I was pregnant I couldn't go with my toddler to get an x-ray, but her dad did). Medical professionals should always take a patient's concerns seriously, no matter their age. I'm sorry that happened to you.
For running, it's definitely a thing. 20 miles a week isn't much per session, it's more so when you're doing longer runs (happened to me when I was running 10 miles for half marathon training). Vaseline works wonders. It's basically caused by the salt from your sweat being abrasive.
Regarding the shoes for lifting... when you are deadlifting and squatting you should wear flat solesd shoes like Chucks or Old Skool Vans. If you have ankle mobility issues you can wear the wedge heeled shoes "squat shoes" A lot of people prefer zero drop shoes for deadlifts. You just shouldn't wear the squishy athletic shoes for either lift because it is uneven and you will find yourself more on your toes when you want to be on your heels You can also roll your ankles because the shoes are too squishy.

As a person who is studying fashion design, I love this video and appreciate you, Doc. I used to do 70.3s and knew men who did wear surgical tape for the nipples. I would imagine it relates to how the fabric reacts and drapes with sweat, as well as gait change and evolving exhaustion. I can tell you the thigh rub chaffing is real. 😥 I am eagerly awaiting your clothing video. 👖🧤🧦🩳👟
Fun thing about the cool side of our pillow: the body temperature going from a lower temperature to a higher makes us more alert, while going from a higher temperature to a lower makes us relax. This is why you get a little sleepy after a hot shower, and also why going from the warmth underneath your blanket and then cooling down your face or sticking a leg out there feels calming ☺️
u said that going from cold to hot is alerting but then u say a hot shower makes us sleepy? and personally i dont think taking a freezing shower is relaxing
I kept ice water on hand when I was in nursing school and had a baby at home. The cold water shocks you into being more alert when you’re falling asleep in class.😂

Vet Tech here for the user who asked about the cat! A couple things could be going on as to why your cat may not be using the litter box. This can be anything from stress, the type of litter, the location, type of litter box, medical problems, etc. Stress- some cats when they get stressed can stop using the litter box and go other places. This can happen because another cat is guarding the litter box, something seems different about it (even if you think there’s nothing different), or other changes to the environment. Feliway is an over the counter plug in spray that doesn’t smell to us humans that you can try to minimize stress. Location- if your cat is peeing in a certain spot try moving the litterbox there. Cats are not like dogs. We have to bend to them unfortunately and if that’s where the cat wants to pee then that’s where it will. There are some deterrents that are sold in stores that might help with this but if you can just move the litterbox there then it’s an easy fix. There are some expensive litter box hides out there you can get to make it fit into the room. Litter box- some cats like lids on the litter boxes some don’t, some like bigger ones, some like smaller, some like clay litter some like paper, some like going through the door others won’t. Everything about the litter box can change the way your cat reacts to it. Trail and error is unfortunately the only way to try to solve this. Also cleaning out the litterbox 1, 2, possibly 3 times a day may be what your cat requires. Every cat is different and require different cleaning. Also for every cat you have have one more litter box (so 1 cat has 2 litterboxes, 2 cats have 3, etc) Medical- if your cat is male and not fixed then your in for a world of spraying and territorial marking (females do this too but I’ve found that humans find males more annoying since they smell worse and they vertical pee). Getting your pet fixed will help with this and prevent other unwanted behaviors, cancers and newborn kittens. Urinary Tract Infections are VERY common in cats and can cause cats to pee everywhere. They can be caused by stress, being overweight and just bad luck. Seeing a vet to get antibiotics and possibly send out a urine culture would be the best steps. If all else fails see your vet anyways! They are happy to help even if it’s just to talk about different options for your pet. We have lots of tricks up our sleeve and only your vet will be able to tell you exactly what’s going on. We rule out all medical possibilities before landing on behavior. Behavior is harder to fix, but with time and patience it can be done. 👍
As a nurse, “pizza party” was my immediate joke response with the way our hospitals have done during these last few years, however I love cards/happy notes. I agree that we don’t need anything from patients, but I do like happy updates that you’re doing okay. ❤️
For the cat person: try a different litter (this helped me, I got wood, she wanted clay), move the litter box to a quiet place (or if there is a specific spot where your cat goes, move it there), get a second litter box, remove the hood if it has one. For Mike: cats don't need to be taught to go to the litter box, it's in their nature to want to bury it. My cat had no parents to learn from at 4 weeks old, just me, and I she knew right away what to do.
Yes please more videos about clothes and health! SheIn is under so much scrutiny right now in the news and you joining the fight to end fast fashion would be amazing - the reason I bring that up is because anytime I’ve bought cheap fast fashion in the past, some of the clothes would have weird textures or scents that turned me off to it so quick! What the heck is on these clothes making them so gross?! Or they’d covered in DUST 🤢 wth! Anywho I’d love if you could deep dive into that more.
Dr.mike as someone who lives with a russian/ukranian person i can say borscht and pelmeni are much appreciated in this house. So so good. We have to travel so far from where we are to get good pelmeni though because none of us can be bothered to make our own. Its truely a treat.
To the litter box person. -Your cat may be sick -you aren’t cleaning your litter boxes daily -You don’t have more then one litter box -your cat may feel insecure or scared in your environment. they need cat towers, scratchers, beds, toys, good food, and lots of love❤️ There are lots of reasons your cat won’t use the litter box. If they are showing other signs of a behavior change other then not using their box, you should take them into see their veterinary! Hope this help!😊
Going off the dark skin on the neck, I have always wondered the same thing, but about the dark skin on my knees. Thank you Doctor Mike for another great video that is both informative and entertaining.😊
My dad has a really dark neck and this video got me to check it with a doctor and it was very serious thank you doctor mike without this video it might have been to late
I had to spend my 16th birthday in the hospital. The amazing nurses happily looked the other way and let my brother in the room with my parents even though my parents were the only ones permitted for visitation (mental health ward), so as a thank you we gave them the cake left over that my parents brought and I'm pretty sure I became their favorite for the rest of my stay 😁
For the gloves while lifting: As a personal trainer I recommend them for most people since it can help prevent a injury from dropping a weight due to sweat on your palms, etc. It's just safer. I know a lot of guys don't like the idea of them because they think it makes them look tougher not wearing them but they really are a safety measure, and the same goes for safety rails on your power rack - why not prevent dropping a bar on your chest?
Also as a personal trainer, I would recommend chalk or lifting straps over gloves, as gloves are going to minimise the grip sensation you can get on the actual weights you're lifting. This decreases your mind muscle connection & can take away from the effectiveness of the exercise and the activation through stabiliser muscles. It can also weaken your grip strength over time as you end up relying on the gloves and not needing to actually create your own grip strength.
My aunt works in a hospital back in MI and according to the folks there doughnuts are a no go. They get boxes of doughnuts and sweets as gifts pretty regularly from well meaning folks and I guess it's to the point where so many nurses are practically begging for fruit or veggie trays
Respect to nurses, honestly, but as a laboratory worker, I wish the rest of us hospital professionals got more appreciation - like, shout out to phlebotomists! People don't realize how hard blood draws can be because phlebotomists make it look so easy!
Would love a more in-depth video regarding compression clothing - when they ARE recommended vs not. As a shift worker, I often wore compression socks. After developing spider veins, I consulted with a doctor who said I would need to wear full compression pants for prevention, not just knee-high socks. Is there any basis for this?

It felt so good for you to mention music therapy! something I've come to do with my chuck Taylor is rip the fat rubbery sole out and replace it with a thin insole. makes it akin to a barefoot shoe and also I don't have to deal with my foot slipping off that thick sole
I briefly experienced that nerve thing you mentioned not long ago. Sometimes, the outer part of my right thigh, a few inches above the knee, would start this burning, painful twitching. I figured out it was not because of tight clothes, but because of my job. I work full time at a desk, and it turns out I just needed some additional cushioning to make the problem go away after a few days!
Hey Dr Mike! I would also suggest taking a look at studies around fabrics that affect fertility in both male and female dogs on pubmed. Very interesting stuff!
"People under stress experience mental and physical symptoms, such as irritability, anger, fatigue, muscle pain, digestive troubles, and difficulty sleeping. Anxiety, on the other hand, is defined by persistent, excessive worries that don't go away even in the absence of a stressor." Basically, stress is caused by something and has an end point, anxiety has no specific cause and is continual
I would say that stress is often linked to the physical aspects of the body's health such as emotions, environment, health, and finance so kindly consult and get diagnosed by doctor +anxiety can be associated with the psychological disorder or body mental health as forming phobias, obsessive-compulsive disorder, a panic disorder so kindly see a psychologist for therapy for anxiety. Also, this information is from a book that I'm learning as a med student. I hope this helps you
I’d love to see a video on clothes and health. I wear leggings every day and I’m worried because I’ve heard leggings can be bad for you and cut off blood supply. They’re not SUPER tight but I’m worried about long-term effects.
Hi Doctor Mike! I had a question.... In one of your videos you said that if someone was unconcious and you dont know if they are breathing or not then you should still do chest compressions but what if they are breathing and you still did chest compressions wouldn't it be harmful to them? Thanks for all the knowledge you are giving ❤️ I know it isnt related to the video but pls could you reply to this
I Googled it after (as I was in nursing, years ago)New first aid recommendations is do chest compressions right away.. making 1st aid simpler. BUT it's because too many were mistakingly feeling a pulse and waited too long to start them. Medical professionals won't do this as they know better. It's SO MUCH WORSE to not give compressions than to do them when it's not needed. Much more of a risk to not do them. According to internet search. Easy to Google 😉
Thank you for your chest compressions advice, I was able to save my best friend's father's life.

For the person who asked about why the cat isn’t using the litter box. It might be because cats are pretty hygienic and typically need 2 litter boxes. Of course not all cats care but if your cat refuses to use it adding a second box and making sure that the boxes are clean could help.
Not cleaning out the litter box daily is probably usually the problem for most people.

Climbing is such a good workout! Hope you’re still going!
When your posture started to get better, did you notice that your muscles used in sexual activity projected more senses?
Most (good) trainers advocate strongly for doing more pulling work than pushing work in our weekly training, largely for this reason
I like to balance my back workouts with a chest workout. Hitting the opposing muscle groups balance out the body and are best to help posture.
At least, we should! The human body wasn't designed for sitting. Spending hours a day on our bum is what kills us.

Veterinary Nurse here: If your cat doesn't use the litter box, try one of the following:
- Always have 1 litter box more than you have cats
- The area where they eat/drink must be as far away as possible from the litter box or they might not use it
- Have the litter box in a quiet place
If all of the above are fine or your cat only recently started not using it, take them to a vet. If your cat is having a discomfort in any way, the first thing they do is stop using the litter box. :)
Great advice!! Also keep it clean!! Cats like a clean box!! Just like us, we like a clean toilet!
i just sat my cat in the box and she used it lol
Cats like open boxes. Is your box enclosed somehow? Also insecure cats will not use the box. Try playing with your cat to give them security.
One thing that seems really simple and will be awkward at first is writing some positive affirmations and sticking them next to or on my
mirror. 💞
I did that with my phone photo album. Kept quotes and pics that were uplifting and it helped with some of the negativity.

Oooo that’s a good one! I wouldn’t have thought of that, but that’s a good idea.

I feel like the discussion around these things is still really lacking in the medical community!
i’d like to know why my boobs hurt any second i’m not wearing a bra, and why i cant find my size at any local store even though it’s common
@@EmmaJohnsonShenanigans if you have breasts on the larger side, they can feel sore because they’re just heavy weights hanging off your chest. It often causes back pain as well. It’s not always that comfortable. And I’m a D cup for comparison.

I listen to a doctor's soap for falling asleep. The guy in the background has a really calm voice and speaks slowly so I can perfectly fall asleep.
It works for me until it shuts off. The changing of noise to no noise wakes me up. I just play easy listening music or turn the fan on.🤷

My sister and her boyfriend had an extended stay at the hospital when my baby niece had Leukemia. They stayed for 9 months and she sadly didn't make it, but we brought my niece's nurses some snack boxes as an appreciation for all they did.
I think hairless people have more direct friction. As someone with with a lightly hairy chest, I've never even been close to nipple chafing
Back when I ran track, I had problems with nipple chafing when I wore my softer cotton T-shirts. As soon as I switched to a polyester-like material that wasn’t as sweat absorbent, I instantly was rid of the problem. This advice is for sure legit.
I have no problems with nipple chafing normally but, at my old job I was required to wear an apron and it caused nipple chafing when it was cold out

Also regarding women's clothing, I highly recommend 100% linen or cotton garments. They are much more comfortable to wear than synthetic fabric because they regulate body temperature -- I've been blown away that I can even layer clothes on hot days simply because they are natural fiber :)

I've been dealing with pain from a lot of different issues, most recently my doctors have discovered bone loss in my hips & knees due to necrotic blood vessels.
As someone that knows a ER assistant manager I’m not one but I do know that they like cookies donuts and sandwiches
What about fruit and veg platters? Dried fruit packets?
Hi there doctor Mike, i'm a medical student and watching your videos really makes me love medicine more. Thanks for entertaining alongside teaching us, you are truly an inspiration and a role model for us! Loves from Turkey
My partner has the same issue with nipples and running. He figured out that cotton or good quality technical fabric and soft microfiber aren't as irritating as the clothing one gets for free at sport events (e.g. races, marathons...). Since he stopped using the cheap t-shirts, he doesn't get sore nipples anymore.
Lol there was one cheap swimming shirt- I know what you mean
Is your partner Andy Bernard?
I've heard of folks who do marathons locally recommending painter's or electrical tape
Mike!
9:05 your eyes just lit up.. never seen anyone so excited to make a video on cloths. 😍😍
Run Guard all the way for the nips during running! Nip Guards work well too and stick really well - but they aren't cheap and they're shaped like little stop signs under your shirt. I use Run Guard every run.
I did a extended stay as a teen. There was a school in the children's ward I was in and they were crying out for playing cards. So after my stay, I sent them tonnes of playing cards
How nice if you! I feel like unless you've been there you never consider how much those places are lacking in actual mental stimulation and quality of life things
@@TheGrossDemonIve been at Nemours children’s hospital, and the amount of Lego and toys for the kids to play with is absurd, it’s like a kid’s heaven in that room with the Lego and toys! I agree that normal hospitals don’t really do that, but Nemours is great with helping the kid/teens mental health stay great! :)
I find the information about compression clothing interesting! My housemate has to wear medical grade compression garments for medical reasons. We have a whole routine for when it needs to be washed and cycled because of just how HEAVY they are. (Washers with a specific function just so you can sanitize clothes are AWESOME.)
Hey Doctor Mike! It has always been my dream to become a family medicine doctor, and the day I found your channel encouraaged that instinct. My family is telling me not to go to med school, but my gut is telling me to. My family says it is not profitable, but as long as I enjoy my job, I do not really care. Thank you for all the encouragement and we will see where I end up!
It's your dream, not your parents. Go for it! And good luck!
Go for it! 👏
Thank you guys for all the support, it is really motivational.
I would love a video on how the clothes you wear affect your body and mind. I really want to know more about the differences of wearing all natural and synthetic clothes
About that kidney stone question. A PTH test would be a good starting point. I had stones and a PTH test showed I had primary hyperparathyroidism. Easily cured surgically.
You’re teaching me a lot in this video, possibly the most I’ve ever learned from one of your videos. This one is awesome, Doctor Mike.
I love that you answer our questions so genuinely even if they sound simple to you (which I’m sure they do sometimes) plus you’re so funny. Hope you’re well! ❤
We NEED a video on clothes and their effects on our bodies. I've seen your video on underwear and it helped me a lot. Thanks for the great work and effort that's put into every single video ❤
" if you're my patient don't get me anything just stay happy and healthy " man i love this man's heart.
i remember he said once he didn't like receiving gifts but he prefers offering gifts to his loved ones, what a man. But guess what doctor mike when we love someone we like to offer them gifts, so please accept gifts from your loved ones it will make them happy.
This has been on my mind for like 2 months now
Shid happens but WHY didn't they want your parents in the room?? 👀 That's dodgy af at best.
Honestly you should complain. Tell your parents to keep complaining until they actually do something about it
Why tf they didnt allow the parents at the first place and secondly SUE THEM FR
1:30 I listen to podcasts, and they're all at different volumes and change between mono and stereo. I manually force everything to the same volume and mono specifically because I kept getting woke up by a loud one, or woke up anxious because an episode was too quiet
I found the thing about the cool side of the pillow interesting. I'm usually trying to find the warmest part of it 🥶 I get cold really easily and that only started happening a couple of years ago.
Pelmeni and borsch! I absolutely agree, wish I could east those from time to time
Great job in your boxing match dr Mike. I know it wasn’t the outcome you were looking for but I know you inspired a bunch of people to push themselves and go out for their dreams. So thank you for all you do and will continue to do. Looking forward to your next match and all your videos
I am eagerly awaiting your clothing video. 👖🧤🧦🩳👟
Loved this. When Dr Mike responds to comments, the information is always so comprehensive and digestible. Thank you, Dr. Mike
@@Monkey-sc6be they’re talking about how your body cools down after taking a hot shower and that transition from warm to cool makes us sleepy.
I kept ice water on hand when I was in nursing school and had a baby at home. The cold water shocks you into being more alert when you’re falling asleep in class.😂
Very informative video. Dr. Mike never fails to educate us.
I like how you answered the, doctor filming for social media, thing
bc today I literally had a barber ask me if I was okay with her filming and taking pictures bc she was building her portfolio and I was like sure, I have no problem with that.
I think that’s actually really cool
When I wore compression shorts under skirts and dresses in summer, I felt ill after a few hours, like physically sick. Almost like I had to throw up, and my belly was hurting a lot. I only realzied way later it could be the shaping clothes I wore, so then I switched to looser fitting bike shorts to wear against my thighs chafing.
Seeing Bear walk behind you at 9:20 gave me the biggest boost of serotonin today
i didnt even notice bear-
Vet Tech here for the user who asked about the cat!
Also for every cat you have have one more litter box (so 1 cat has 2 litterboxes, 2 cats have 3, etc)
Medical- if your cat is male and not fixed then your in for a world of spraying and territorial marking (females do this too but I’ve found that humans find males more annoying since they smell worse and they vertical pee).
Thank you so much for all the wonderful info! :D
For the nipple chafing; vaseline or any other thick petroleum-type gel/product on the area helps massively
-Your cat may be sick
-you aren’t cleaning your litter boxes daily
-You don’t have more then one litter box
-your cat may feel insecure or scared in your environment. they need cat towers, scratchers, beds, toys, good food, and lots of love❤️
There are lots of reasons your cat won’t use the litter box.
You know it's a good day when Mike posts.
I live in Michigan in a town with a big hospital. If this is me, I will gladly send all the staff there a veggie tray.
@@leifmeadows3782 lol you don't live near Saginaw do you?
Would love to see a whole video on clothes and their impact on our health -- sounds interesting!
As a surfer when I was younger, my nipples were chafing regularly. I learned about a shirt called rash-guard and it changed my life. I never had sore nips again.
It felt so good for you to mention music therapy! I'm currently in university studying to be a music therapist and defiantly see different possibilities for benefits that may not come from the standard CBT. I honestly don't think it gets talked about enough but wow that felt good for you to mention Dr. Mike!
Did you mean "definitely" rather than "defiantly"?
something I've come to do with my chuck Taylor is rip the fat rubbery sole out and replace it with a thin insole. makes it akin to a barefoot shoe and also I don't have to deal with my foot slipping off that thick sole
I have had this question for a long time now and I wanted to ask it now. Is there a difference between stress and anxiety?
Thanks for all the knowledge you are giving ❤️
I know it isnt related to the video but pls could you reply to this
I Googled it after (as I was in nursing, years ago)New first aid recommendations is do chest compressions right away.. making 1st aid simpler.
BUT it's because too many were mistakingly feeling a pulse and waited too long to start them.
Medical professionals won't do this as they know better.
It's SO MUCH WORSE to not give compressions than to do them when it's not needed. Much more of a risk to not do them. According to internet search. Easy to Google 😉
im Greek but we have the same taste for Russian food. both of your choises are gift to humankind. Thats why i subscribe to you. you rock, doc!
I have a question:
Does the plaque on your tongue actually tell you things about your physical well being/general health?
