  • Just when we thought we were safe! It looks like WB has quietly deleted Coyote vs. Acme in exchange for a 30 million dollar tax write-off. Effectively creating Lost Media, but is it lost forever? In this video I'll breakdown everything we know about Coyote vs. Acme to get a better idea what this movie might look like and talk about how it might be leaked online.

I have to apologize to all my fans, I have made a terrible error. In this video I talk about a piece of lost media involving John Cena and I failed to make a "You Can't See Me" joke. All the piece were in front of me, but I failed to execute. I know I don't deserve it, but I hope you can someday forgive me for this grave, inexcusable mistake. It will never happen again.

Tax write offs aren't exactly "free money." I have an LLC and file based on what I've expensed vs what I've made, and when something is a failure it means I pay less in taxes, but since taxes aren't over 100% I still end up losing money.
The thing that shouldn't be allowed is writing off fully finished works. Tax writeoffs were designed for things where there was no hope of getting it finished and cutting losses, like if a movie was supposed to cost $1 million but the director kept changing things and now they're $5 million in the hole and they aren't even halfway done with principal photography, or all the lead actors die during filming and there's no way to cut around it. At that point "yeah, write it off as a loss and get the tax reduction," but fully completed works that are being written off for short term tax relief is terrible. The video said it would be a 30 million write off, that means the movie probably cost at least 70 million to make (probably more).

@@catholiccontriversy I was under the impression that you could also do tax writeoffs if the finished product is simply doomed to fail. "We put $90 million into this, we need another $30 million for promotion and distribution, and all our best data indicates it's gonna bomb. Can we please take the hit and at least get a credit on our taxes?"
What bothers me is that they *probably* don't have to prove that in movies. Like, I doubt there's a division of the IRS that monitors the potential profitability of artistic products, so they probably just take their word for it.
And in the case of Batgirl - yeah, certainly they were gonna lose movie. Nobody gave a damn about it until *after* it was cancelled, and the DCEU was already in flames by then. No issues there. After the Snydercut thing they had to realize they were just throwing good money after bad.
But this was almost certainly going to be *at least* a cult hit that would bring in money for years to come. So this feels a bit like just taking advantage of the system.

@@mahatmarandy5977 one can write off finished works if it's doomed to fail, as they are doing right now. I'm just saying it shouldn't be allowed because of nonsense like this. I don't know all the details of "deeming a creative work a loss" outside of "the owner can never try to make money on it ever again," but I know for me there's like a "minimum demonstration of effort to profit" so I can't just say "this cruise I took where I just had fun was a business experience." I think for artistic works there should be like a "you must give it a commercial release to prove failure." Yeah, Batgirl was doomed from the start and would be a good example of "writing off a finished failure," but I think it should have had like a month release on HBO MAX even if it didn't get any promotion so there could be a demonstration of trying to profit, and then when it gets no views WB can say "yep, it's an undeniable loss, I'd like my tax burden reduced please," or as would likely be the case with coyote vs acme, "wow, this was actually a lot more successful than we thought, we made more than enough to cover what we would have saved with the write off."

@@catholiccontriversy Well in the case of an unfinishable project you have actually made a loss.
If the movie is completely filmed, postproduced, cut etc then you should need to prove you TRIED to make your money back. Limited release, direct to Video/Streaming, whatever. You should not be able to just let the Taxes pay a share of the costs and be done. That is not how anything else works.

Fully completed works that never went to market shouldn't be allowed to be written off. Write offs were designed for "this is 3 time over budget and we aren't even done filming" or "the lead actor died 2/3 through filming and there is no way to cut around that" or other "this is never getting finished" conditions, or "this movie bombed at the theater and bombed on home media, I haven't even made 10% back," not "I have a fully completed work but a lot of debt, to keep the tax man off my back I'm going to deem this a loss so I can lower my tax burden instead of trying to make money on it."

      Absolutely 100% objectively NO.
Just the kind of horrible response i'd expect from a know nothing child. The only thing you'd be accomplishing by doing that is CONTRIBUTING to the hurt and disrespect that WB already shows the creatives laboring under their oppressive and devaluing corporate regime. You're hurting CREATORS by doing that, not Warner Bros itself. The people who actually NEED and DESERVE the respect by supporting official media are the creators of the content you claim to like in the first place. By pirating it, you're assuring that NO ONE gets a dime. You're punishing absolutely EVERYONE in that case, meanwhile whether you pirate or you don't, WB faces no financial difficulties with their guaranteed raises and bonuses that the executives give themselves, yet nickle and dime the creators that aren't getting paid nearly as well as the top brass.
If you pirate, you hurt the creators. You're doing WB's job for them. And WB executive will themselves NEVER feel the effect of the piracy themselves that your ignorant little lukewarm crusade THINKS it's doing. They'll keep making money, they'll keep giving themselves raises, and as long as you pirate, WB's takeaway will be that they just need to KEEP doing things like this since that's where the REAL money is.
What you propose will make everything worse, helps no one, and merely justifies you being a theif for your own selfish reasons.
And this isn't just semantics. Using the very real, very recent issue where WB recently let go of Rooster Teeth and dissolved the company they had under their belt, was because they weren't financially viable for them, so they just killed them off. Which means it's because of people like you that Red vs Blue, and all the Rooster Teeth content is dead and their employees and animators are all out of a job. Because WB saw that piracy of RT's internet content was becoming a liability to the company, and just cut that whole arm off, hurting everyone at RT in the process and putting them all out of work. WB do things like this, delete entire movies like this, in part because they turn to cheap methods and tax writes offs in part because people like YOU won't support their creative divisions and the honest hard working people that WB screws because of it.

Money at the cost of more money, and maybe his whole company. If things are going like this, I can only see the end of something in Warner Bros. This'll most likely end up like how Warner Bros., back when they were known as Warner Bros.-Seven Arts, was purchased by Kinney National in 1969. I think at this point, Warner Bros. Discovery deserves a similar fate; being bought out by a much bigger company, maybe someone like Amazon, who in turn would kick Zaslav out of his position, and replace him with Jennifer Salke (the head of Amazon and MGM Studios, which Amazon owns). Though hopefully, and this would most definitely not be likely, this wouldn't result in them closing Warners' animation studio(s), like what happened in, again, 1969. Again, Amazon closing Warners' animation studios wouldn't be likely. Unlike in 1969, there are not much theatrical shorts to die off anymore (I think that was the main reason why Warners (as well as almost every other major company that had a studio making theatrical shorts) decided to shut their animation studio in 1969; there was no need for more theatrical shorts anymore, as television was pretty much the dominant force in entertainment at that time).

Honestly, for as much as a shady business scoundrel as he was, Jack Warner worked hard to build an image of prestige for the company he and his brothers founded. Even though WB is basically a brand that's been bought and sold many times, these practices are still an insult to the legacy of Warner family and the studio they created. Yeah, a lot of unfair treatment happened in the Golden Hayes era, but Warners created some of the greatest stars and films to ever grace the silver screen. Can you imagine them making Casablanca or Rebel Without a Cause only to scrap it afterwards?! It would have been unheard of back then, and it would be the kind of thing that would have damaged the brand Jack worked hard to maintain. It's also a big slap in the face to the creators of the Coyote and Roadrunner cartoons, Chuck Jones and his Termite Terrace team. Zaslov doesn't seem to show any respect whatsoever for the company and brand he inherited.

Which is why Warner bros then called a bunch of companies and acted like they tried but no-one wanted it or didn’t offer high enough. Warner bros is doing this on purpose and it shows even more with how they have “deleted” the movie. I have two theories.
    1. This is part of a power struggle between James Gunn and David Zaslav. The latter wants to exert more influence over DC, and this whole back-and-forth mess is his way of threatening Gunn "I'm your boss and I'm in charge of your movies, not you."
    2. It's basically an ad campaign. WB is trying to artificially generate a Snyder Cut-style fan movement for a movie that would've probably flopped otherwise, so they can release it and lap up tons of good PR. This might also apply to the "leaked" Batman Beyond concept art. It's no secret that they're desperate for audience goodwill.

I was hyped for Coyote Vs. Acme. I was SO excited. But after Zaslav cancelled it, I have given up with WB.

My only complaint was they missed the chance to make Marvin the mayor of Roswell

Yo ho, yo ho, a pirate's life for me!
We stream, we download, we share with delight,
Drink up, me hearties! Yo ho!
We boycott their platform, what they've done ain't right,
Drink up, me hearties! Yo ho!
Yo ho, yo ho, a pirate's life for me!
We download and share, without even a fuss
Drink up, me hearties! Yo ho!
For Zaslav's greed, we'll make him cuss
Drink up, me hearties! Yo ho!
Yo ho, yo ho, a pirate's life for me!
No more subscriptions, they'll learn to adjust
Drink up, me hearties! Yo ho!
Their IP's would be ours, tyrants get the dust!

The amount of incompetence of modern movie studios is staggering. It would be understandable if they just couldn't figure out how to make a good movie, but when they have one already done they choose to not release it. Unbelieavable.

It’s not even that, nearly all of the test screenings they did went really well and got very positive score so it would’ve been an amazing movie. David Zazlav it’s just trying to kill animation at WB which is ironic because Looney Tunes really helped put animation in the mainstream

6:30 early reviews of movies from critics who were shown early screenings months or weeks in advance is a terrible metric for judging a film's quality. They're almost always super-fans of the property who are easily swayed by the glitz and glamour of seeing a movie early at a a private screening in a theater exclusively for them, the critics. These are people who sniff their own farts, after all. Most of the critics who saw The Flash before it came out said it was genius and filled with lots of callbacks to prior superhero movies, even Stephen King loved it at a pre-release screening. But we all know how that movie turned out...

16:15 What I like best about (presumably) Coyote's motel room is that the ceiling fan isn't even on the bed. No, the mattress is against the wall, in front of the wardrobe. Coyote tore up the bed to have more space for whatever scheming he was doing. The fan is leaning on the ironing board, next to a giant spring. The pillows are thrown against the wall with the blanket wadded up in front. Coyote probably sleeps on the floor in that tiny space. Truly he is devoted to his cause.
The film crew didn't have to put this kind of detail and love into this motel room. But they did.

I’m so mad that this is constantly allowed to happen to completed movies. It’s not right. I’ve never followed a movie’s production as close as I followed this one. Who Framed Roger Rabbit and Back In Action are great. So I was excited to see this.

Hopefully some champ downloaded the whole movie and will leak it somehow. This is really one of those that could be a huge hit. I think at this point, WBD actively hates fans. During the strikes, they brought in far-right commentators for the premier of Barbie, knowing they would trash the movie.

If WB is deleting their own movies, then they don't believe they're making art. Good luck convincing people to pay for their not-art in the future.

It's stuff what like what Warner Bros Discovery do, as well as many other big corpos do, that makes my stance of piracy not equal stealing stand firm.
We seem to rarely truly "own" anything anymore, and only pay fees and licenses to use a product for a limited time.
If buying isn't owning, then piracy isn't stealing.
I pray that if Warner Bros Discovery falls, maybe someone, somehow will salvage this movie in some shape or form.

It’s sad so many iconic IP’s are owned by a company that has no regard for their legacy. This is some seriously bad PR for the studio, they should just release it to save face now.
