Local Malaysian here. My condolences to Gretta for your loss, and am glad to see you had happy times in my country with your late husband and it's wonderful that you're building a new life back in UK now
Fabulous design style. Tons of room. Not cluttered ...bright clean. And joyful with the outside space adjoining the home...and being next door to your sister...well what more would you need.....❤️❤️....the home is filled with love ...can tell easily. Great memories. Along the way from her travels..
WOW!! It's off the charts fantastic. Love it, lots of space and NO Stairs.. which I have hated since 12 yrs old, when my wonderful grandfather fell down the stairs and did not survive. What a fantastic sister and brother in law. Magnificent result.
Lovely, perfect for the Gretta. I love how she considered her guests and had two spare rooms, even though she would have no need, it shows a natural thought to other's comfort and well being. Personally, I would have built a bigger gap between the two houses, but that is pretty much the only change I would make.
What a smart, simple design. I love it. I would never have thought a true pavillion style would work in such an environment but work it does. Nice one.
I was born and raised in South East Asia and growing up in SEA I never seen house like that, very flat roof and very open inside. In Australia now a days, often you will see houses like this "open concept means living room and kitchen are open.
I wish I had family like this, my family is stone cold, conservative, judgmental and horrible . My friends are my family. When that is said, beautiful house…
I find that even if you have differences there is always common ground. Things like baking, gardening, tennis, sports there is more to life then political views. Finding common ground with those different then you will help you become tolerant to all personalities.
@@TheRachag say that to my family and not me, I have tried. Not anymore. They live their narrow ignorant lives and I live my life, and that’s the way I want it. I don’t want to live my life getting hurt over and over again. But I have beautiful wonderful friends, that is enough for me.
@@aquajuwel7098 I say that you are a winner. Sometimes, families don’t gel as one big happy bunch. Sometimes, people aren’t able to find friends that are truly friends. It would be great if you could have both; but settle for one them - friends - and be happy. I don’t get on with my brother - we havent socialised together for 40 plus years. We are different; I don’t like him and he very probably doesn’t like me. So what? I’ve got a loving wife, children and great grand children. I’m very happy with my lot. The only goal I have is that, when I die, my children and great grand children miss me; what else is there? So, be happy with where you are. Rejoice in your good relationships. Allow others to go their way and, if they try to interfere, just tell them the truth.
I have seen many makeover/build shows and I never really 'get' the desire for such large open-plan spaces, which combine the kitchen, dining and living areas. Practically it calls for very good heating systems, insulation and measures to deal with solar gain from all that glass, as well as ventilation to deal with steam and cooking odours. The waft of baking bread may be pleasant, but being reminded of a brace of kippers hours after breakfast is not. For a single person or couple it might be OK (although I like to be able to close the kitchen door) to have the same surroundings for everything, and I can see that for a family with young children being able to supervise is a bonus, even if it does mean toys all over the floor. But when they become teenagers the personal/living space becomes the bedroom. If good fences make better neighbours - as the saying goes - maybe the opportunity to have dividing walls - even sliding/folding ones should at least figure somewhere in the plans?
Absolutely fabulous 👌. Rooftop while I like in this situation is an overkill since they have so much greenery and nature at the backside, and the extra cost of cladding I find useless..
Hats off to the family for making that happen. Particularly the husband who had to swallow the loss of his children’s memories with that tree. House isn’t to my taste at all and shouldn’t really have been allowed in such a beautiful countryside setting but we’re all different.
I love the simplicity of the home and the views to the garden from many aspects. Shame about the apple tree, might have been nice to see if it could have been moved.
Awesome! They have done great in many aspects. The view to the outside is in my opinion the best. But there is one thing that I do not understand these days. Where are the Photovoltaic panels? Any new build house today should have a PV system ! They should be mandatory!
It is really unfortunate that the 100 year old apple tree could not be incorporated and designed into the house itself. They could have made it work and certainly honored it with the pride of place it deserved! Truly a shame!
Metal structure with SIP's panels in between. How can that possibly work and be allowed in the building code because each part of the metal structure in that roof with create a thermal bridge?????
As beautiful as it is, to me it will never be cosy, private inside due to all the glass... the noise from the rain above your head on that flat roof too would make for horrible winters... Fantastic architecture for sure, but with flaws in it's apparent design, and decor
Yes! That's generally my style, but not like this. It looks out of place, too close to the house next door, and it was a shame to lose that big, beautiful tree!
You can clearly see the blinds on the images just before they talk about the bathroom. They are neatly integrated on the top of the windows, little slot in the ceiling.
Perhaps she intends on passing it down to family when she dies. Who ever inherits it might have a large family. I don't have anyone I want to pass my house down to so I built a 1 bedroomed 690sqft house on a 10,000sqft lot.
If my wife did something like this after I died, I'd be pissed. In a good pissed off way, where I wished I was there to enjoy it. Just goes to show, life is short, if you have a dream, go and get it, or at least try, so you don't have regrets
House itself is SO GORGEOUS but the furnishings inside definitely do not stand up to the architecture. I hope she was just getting started on the interiors when this was filmed... !
It is a few years old, but building is always cheaper than buying a finished house because your adding value to the land beyond the build costs, without paying a developers profit

Wow what a great family. A selfless sister ❤ and her son is a great architect. Its stunning and fits in well with the house.

Wow that is something! Very surprised. It is very beautiful.
Beautiful.

I've travelled throughout Malaysia and never seen anything similar.
Maybe the overhang idea, to create shade from the sun?
@@worldpilgrim4638 Like every other house in Asia?
Lovely place....I've lived in Asia for 13 years.....can't really work out how it's Asian??
it is more mid century modern in design. But it is a beautiful home.
Probably the shou sugi ban siding treatment.
There's no balloon framing in Asia right?
The openness is Asian inspired design.
@@kam5809 You will not see an asian house open like this at all. I was born and raised in Asia.

Waaaaaaaay too costly and unrealistic
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR SHARING US 🏘🏘🏘
The husband already complaining the apple tree had to go, rather than planting a new one. 😂
You can't replace a tree with sentimental value, I'm on his side

Sweet families
Greetings from Malaysia

4:40 - Why make such large house to begin with? Couldn't it have been a bit shorter or gone around that tree?
I love this show... Just don't seem to be able to catch it on dstv
What's the floor material? It looks warmer than polished concrete.
why not work around the apple tree?
Roots
Best house ever on grand design
I would move in instantly ;-)

Architects name please

I wonder if Fernando planted another apple tree to create new memories.
What software is used for such animations 😭😭😭

More like a one floor condo or penthouse with rooftop area built on the ground .. 🇲🇾

Did the 300k all go into the house or did it involve the amount paid for the Land
Dunno, Greta seems to have taken over the block entirely. The driveway is excessive and she’s taken the best bits of the yard.
Her land.
@@jlife9092 no, it’s the other lady’s land
She paid for it, though🤔
Lovely house but I don’t get an Asian vibe!
The minimalist/ zen approach/ and opening the space up to the surroundings maybe
I wonder how she lives without any privacy. No curtains in her bedroom or bathroom, except if they come down out of the ceiling! 😮
You can clearly see the blinds on the images just before they talk about the bathroom. They are neatly integrated on the top of the windows, little slot in the ceiling.
She is also in a relatively enclosed graden
Why does one person living alone need a 4 bedroom house!! A 2/3 bedroom place still would have been huge for her.
Perhaps she intends on passing it down to family when she dies. Who ever inherits it might have a large family. I don't have anyone I want to pass my house down to so I built a 1 bedroomed 690sqft house on a 10,000sqft lot.
And she could have saved Fernando’s beloved apple tree by building smaller.
Why so many bedrooms?
Nice house but why only 1 bathroom?
Went to the UK .... annoying how they don't embrace designs with bathrooms to every bedroom .
Except there are two, one main and one ensuite to the master BR
If my wife did something like this after I died, I'd be pissed.

i m sorry but the tree should have saved.
I’m just wondering if they will ever be able to go to the toilet or go in the bath without everyone seeing in…
an intelligent architect must design according to existing site condition...but the removal of the apple tree makes him think like a contractor..
£300? really how two bedroom houses cost £200 where and when?, is it a really old video?
It is a few years old, but building is always cheaper than buying a finished house because your adding value to the land beyond the build costs, without paying a developers profit
Sorry guys, although this is a beautiful house it is no shot sugi ban.
Beautiful house indeed, but for me it doesn't look like Asian at all, except for one wooden cabinet I saw
So, they killed a 100 year old tree to build a house for 1 person? The tree would still be living long after she is death...
Ordinary inbuilt many problems .
super hot carlos... ginger bloke... hot hot
Too bad we only got a short glimpse of him, eh?
Bit like the James Norton fella.
asian? not even an entryway
Shed/box, rather than architecture. And that's coming from a huge fan of modernism. This just doesn't work visually.
Didn't see much of asian style here
He designed it for mates rates, I hope he gave her a refund as it is a bloody awful design for the UK.
Wow that roof is ugly
