One trick I use when fishing rivers or estuaries that flow hard- ie Hawkesbury river is to look for trash lines . These tend to form where the current has either been forced to abruptly change direction or it has ran into another body of water that opposes its flow and this means the speed of the water flow has to slow right down ( think of the mouth of Cowan creek and the Hawkesbury river ) these areas are where any prawns or small baitfish that were being swept away by the current can escape and the predators are just sitting there waiting for them . I learned this trick from trout fishing in fast flowing streams - same principle just on a much bigger scale .
Great video. Alot of good points that are overlooked. Confidence in using lures seems to be the biggest hurdle for alot of anglers and these tips are great kindling for keen prospectors.
I'm from central Oz so fishing is a rare treat for me. But come this late June/July, I'm heading to Cairns for the first time and I'll give it a crack in between tours and family time.
Keep a diary, write down everything!!! Dates tides weather water temp birds you see, lures you used water clarity salinity it's worth doing after a trip, makes for an interesting
Hey mark just watched the video I go camping at lake conjola every year what part we’re you fishing I recommend up at the entrance because the sand flat drops off into a deep hole and flatties smash swim baits and slippery dogs work well for whiting on the flats at high tide
I am fishing from a jetski and will be offshore as well with aiming for reef spots i have too choose my lures hooks from a small selection also i do live bait as well thoughts mark
Hey Mark, I'm considering buying a new light rod, for bream, flatty, cod and occasional trevally if she pops up (honestly anything ). I have some hard bodies at home that I don't use because my rod is too heavy to flick something so light. I don't know what to buy, a 1-3 kg is too light because I want to catch a big flatty, so maybe 2-4. But I also want a 2-piece to fit in my mum's car, which is a Mazda CX3, so fairly small. I'm not sure whether a 2-4 will cast the distance I want though, because I fish land based. My budget is not very high (under 200, for rod + reel). Love your vids btw, they are super helpful.
I was lucky enough to spend 8 years on Groote Eylandt. The fishing there is next level. When bottom-bouncing, if you haven't caught a fish in the last 2 minutes, it's time to move the boat. 🎣
Could someone please tell me what plastic he is holding @ 7mns.23sec? I've been trying to find this particular colour in a soft plastic for ages, but haven't seen anything like it since I ran out of some old atomics that I had.
Mark I've been researching bite times based moon phase (and/or position) and the only stuff I've been able to find isn't clear to someone with a basic understanding. I only fish landbased around port phillip and western port bay's and i think it'd help tons to understand this more. Can make a video in further detail on how you choose when and where you plan your sessions around interpreting bite times?
I look for breeding grounds I’ll get 15 flathead in a couple of hours and then nothing then they go down a bit deeper I could fish the one spot for 3days or 2weeks then they move
Sawfish are a protected species I think in every state. Having a rostrum on your wall and promoting it on videos is not a good look. Several people have been stung with big fines for just owning one in WA. Even if it is twenty years old.
My wife just googled rehabilitation centres trying to have me committed for my lure addiction
Should dive off some common fishing spots, find some beauties

Best top 5 I have watched in regards to fishing in a long time. Thanks Mark
Great tips mate, especially #2. This is why I tell people that the spot you fish is not the most important thing to worry about.
Very good tips thanks.
Thanks mate. Most of us need this. Cheers
Good advice! Thanks!
Cheers Mark

Many thanks for the information! I am on a mission chasing flatties at sunny coast mainly on soft plastics.
Good luck!

You should do a video on moon phases, bite times etc

You'd think these ideas would be obvious but not always. Cheers.

Sound advice professor Berg...think like a fish, catch more....✅️

I go with if fish are gonna eat, they gonna eat. Tide, moon, lure.
I'm india barramundi mangrojack best lure best softbait
Biggest mistake most make is hitting the boat ramp at 10am, when they should be hitting it at 430am.
Mark I thought everyone had 100 hard bodies and 20 packs of soft plastics only use one type and only use 3 of those 100 lures
no clips ?
Find it bit boring or underwhelming flicking in one spot for a while, less theres good channel cover or structure usually always a bust up

Ok Karen 🤣
@@scottsagaris3252 he is correct, it is illegal to possess any part of a protected no take species, usually because of people with your attitude
