The YS100 was my first ever synthesiser. Pretty much the same as the YS200 but without the sequencer and aftertouch. Had it for quite some years. I kinda liked the macro programming philosophy as you'd accidently but inevitably come up with some cool sounds of your own. Plus that synth always sat well in the mix.
I learned on this synth way back when. I wish I still had it. Although inexpensive at the time and laughed at, I was able to get some seriously cool sounds from it once I learned how to get around on it. I made a scary patch that I've never been able to replicate. The best I could describe it would be, a dark blob monster with sizzling surface coming to get you. lol. Overall, this thing had a very crispy quality. Definitely different from an analog. And don't forget to alter those input numbers individually. (0090, 6739, any combo) You have a lot of options. Anyway, nice to see this vid with some current owners. Enjoy ✌️
I have the B200(+speakers and rounded design), I love this synth, I like to program on YSEditor software. Much easier to program, and you can download a lot of patches from internet too. Thank your for the video

This is JUST like my dear SDX2000 only without the speakers or Japanese lettering. I used to have this model too and was indeed the first of the series I ever owned. Now I have the SDX2000 from Gearfacts store and the B200 from Ebay. I just fired them up yesterday and jammed actually. But this model here has some different presets even from the 2 I have! So yeah, same internals but the preset ROM seems different on all 3 models.. I have my eye on this one!
Im considering buying the Yamaha YS-200 or the Yamaha DSR-2000... Which one is the better, more pro sounding and more versatile/experimental sounding synth??? Great vid!
Hi Glynn, nice video. Great sounds and nice footage. I bought this synth back in the Nineties and at the time I couldn’t fathom how it worked so after a while I sold it again… second worst move in my keyboardist career, the first being the sale of my faithful PSR E433. As you said, great FM sounds. Nice organ, bells, percussions, pure synth sounds. And IMHO also one of the most beautifully designed synths of the Nineties and beyond. Have you managed to do anything at all with the internal sequencer ? Actually, with its sequencer and effects module, this beast is not a pure synth but a tiny workstation all by itself. Cheers 🍻
The sequencer is disappointing, tbh. It's just five completely linear tracks, no serious editing options. I too liked its sound but I ended up deciding to keep the PSS680 for all my FM needs.
Hmmm… it depends what you want to do with your keyboard. The nice thing about the YS200 is it’s full-size keys, pitch and mod wheel, and aftertouch, so it can work as a standalone keyboard. The PSS680 is nice as a sound module. Does it understand the aftertouch MIDI parameter send from a master keyboard?
@@HubertEtAlice yep it does. Personally I think both of them benefit enormously from a completely external sequencer. You don’t hear sounds like this anymore :)
dope synth! I got mine for free! all it needed is the sram batery put in a batery holder and a new batery $0.99 later and it plays and saves just like brand new.
@@gearfacts yeah n I got a k1000 too! Both work just the needed bateries and the screen light was bad on the one k1k board. but not bad super gifts Iv gotten lucky on to own such beautiful instruments! Amazing what people will toss.
Yeah it’s weird right? If I publish LESS, I get MORE. Wish your G9 video was getting more views, I was really happy with that one. It had some editing tricks that I had never tried before. Oh well, audiences are fickle :)
@@gearfacts No problem. I just feel bad for you that you worked so hard on it and it did not get that many views. There is someone at UA-cam that hates me and keeps track of me with two odd channels that subscribed to mine. They have suppressed my channel and my videos because I'm a conservative and not "woke" and never will be. I know it is someone from YT staff, cause I reported the pornographic profile pics used on both channels, but nothing was done. What a friggin' joke! So, it's just a weird senseless harassment, but I blocked the channels. They have no idea of who they are dealing with, so, I'll just have a bit of fun with it until those two channels just disappear.
I’d rather say a simplified M1. It LOOKS toyish but if you can use it, it’s a killer synth. Also, in contrary to the M1 which is a “rompler” workstation (it works with pre-recorded sampled waves, basically), this one is a real synth - it produces sounds from scratch. I wished I had realised that back in the Nineties. Might buy it again if I come across a not too expensive unit in good shape.

So true - accidental and inevitable creation :)
These 4-OPs are amazing, much easier to tweak than DX7. Very cool demo! I've made demo of TQ5 on my channel !
Got one yesterday 12.2022 with a broken d3#. Now the search for a new key begins. Restoring old synths is fun.
Yes, they must not be allowed to die! What's up with the key?
@@gearfacts Parts of it broke off. I will try to glue it with two-component glue and switch it with D4# until I get a "new" one.

Cool. Did you find the sequencer useful?
Just inherited one of these bad boys from my mentor. Jesus christ how havd I not heard more about this synth?!? So underrated!
It’s definitely a unique individual :-)
Yeah man this thing blows DX7 outa the water and I own both. So underrated

Brilliant and informative episode.
best sound i got outa mine was holding that 4nos button down, then it cycles through all the tones while you play chords
Yeah I like doing tricks like that. Not what the manufacturer intended, but it sounds good :)

i dig the washed out aesthetic, very 90s

Usually with Yamahas you hold the highest white key, turn the keyboard on with that key down for a few seconds.
