I truly think this is some of the best Genesis chiptune music I've ever heard. Especially loved Brinstar Depths (which sounds more amped now compared to the brooding creepy SNES original). Really does the original themes justice!
Sega Genesis/Mega Drive its the best in sound of all consoles why? Because of the Yamaha YM2612 FM synthesis Sound Chip built-in, its like a SEGA Genesis/Mega Drive with a Sound Blaster inside
@@avideogamemaster Battletoads/Double Dragon and Battlemaniacs would say otherwise, but when everything on the SNES sounds muffled as if being played in a cave, while the Genesis has a very hard, crunchy, and bassy sound that the SNES can't match. I mean, to be fair, he is using the genesis chip to make only music, I think this is really cool either way, it's cool to see differences between older consoles in things like graphics and sound, before the xbox one and ps4 where they basically became PCs

Retrogamer Feminist Going to college soon to be a programmer. I dream of making "Mega Metroid" for Genesis, which will be more of a remake of Metroid I with music from this some new fun stuff. Think of Zero Mission combined with Super Metroid. Also glad to see a fellow feminist in the comment section!
I feel like the Megadrive/Genesis covers have different strengths to that of the original SNES/Super Famicom. The SNES music is able to capture the creepy feeling of being on a hostile planet and exploring, whereas the Genesis music emphasizes the technological nature of the Space Pirates' base and Samus herself.
no its sounds way more upbeat but don't have the punch of the snes music (i didn't heard any genesis music have a "punch" to it tbh) as a result it sounds like another shmup game
I know what you mean, but: m.ua-cam.com/video/ArkrNT4MeGQ/v-deo.html Plays back on actual hardware. Give it a listen. On a proper hi-fi, it’ll rearrange your bowels.
I found that it gave it more of a technologic feel than an atmosphere feel and that's perfectly fine since it still fits. I still prefer the SNES version, but this ain't bad.
koolkitty8989 Oh no... He is actually... This is made known in many of his newer videos. Has said that he does it with code and staying in constraints unlike Renegade, thought Renegade's music is still boss.
pretty cool if he did it all with code! I noticed a little bit of inconsistency with the harmonies in Brinstar compared to the original version, but it's pretty damn close!! sounds awesome
Samuel you ought to simply edit your original comment, just put your response in it, all ya did was add fuel for the Snes fanboys. Esp if that's not how you actually feel.
both consoles have different strengths. I think the perfect 16 bit game console would be an unholy fusion of the snes and sega genesis into a super console. might try it someday.
1:09 theme
1:57 brinstar green
3:49 item room
4:13 brinstar red
6:11 mini-boss
6:49 ending
that low drum in mini boss, I'm sure the sub kicks very well.

OMFG! That bass is blessed glory!
Dat Brinstar bass comes through a lot harder than on SNES
I've waited years for someone to reupload this video. I always loved listening to the Brinstar Overgrown part.
I remember watching GeckoYamori's stuff back in 2010~2011. This has always been a favorite of mine. I'm glad he's back so there's more content.
This is great. The ending theme sounds straight out of shining force 2 and I'm perfectly ok with that.
Good call. That's exactly what I was thinking. Shining Force or Landstalker.
I Felt Just the same
God damn, Brinstar Depths or "Brinstar red" as someone called it sounds amazing.
Definitely! It sounds like something from the Master of Monsters OST
oh fuck thanks for reupping this, i thought it was lost forever
Thanks for reuploading this. Been looking around for these arrangements for ages.
7:40 Goosebumps.
I imagine how much this would have touched me in an alternate timeline where I just watched the game's ending credits on a Genesis.
Yeah, this ending blows away the SNES version. I especially like the use of the Ghouls and Ghosts sound bits to get it just right!
As a huge Super Metroid fan, this is an awesome ost! The ending music 💜

Sorry, but the Sony designed sound chip of the Super Snes is better over all.

How many of the Genesis sound channels are being used up on these tracks? Would there be any left over for sound effects?
probably yes
The noice channel isn't used (at least that's how I'm hearing it)

Just epic, man! I love these genesis sound covers. Keep It going
It sounds darker than the snes version

Beautiful music!

The lead instruments benefit but im not a fan of how the atmosphere is lost, brinstar red lost what made it special. But dat ending theme is amazing.

Original gameboy sound chip + farts + steel drum
Not to bash the Genesis's sound chip, though. I honestly prefer it's audio to that of the SNES.
+Samuel Lacher I find the SNES gives me a more 85-95 feel, where the Genesis gives a firmly early 80's feel.
David Sterling This gives a more foreboding, frightening, and creepy feeling, so I may prefer this in many ways.

One of Gecko's weaker works. It mainly has to do with the Genesis not having a strong suit to atmospheric tracks, but it's still a decent work.
