Everything Ace Frehley does has a certain charm, and somehow his street wisdom shines through. It's a street song, and Ace wins because of that. But only by a small margin. Paul Stanley could sing anything and make it sound good.
agreed
It's Ace. His attitude is perfect.
Agreed
Kiss 👍😎🤘
Pauls sung this song really well, it's back when Pauls voice actually worked, Pauls voice then was at its most mature. Ace's version had more of a street feel, less polish Vs Kiss but more soul.
i agree. Both are great, but I like Ace's version because it is more rocknroll
To show that they were truly reunited, they should've performed this in 96 or 97. Having Paul do a verse and Ace one too.
That would have been really cool!!
A very interesting idea.
Agreed.
I agree with you. Ace Frehley is a superior artist. He could help Kiss be good at their clever, catchy songs. Yet, on his own Ace is more a classic rock guitar hero like Ritchie Blackmore, Tony Iommi, or Martin Barre. Frehley also has a better understanding of songwriting, recording, and producing. That is why is solo albums sell better than the others in Kiss.
Ace is is a rock n roll badass!!
Ace did a harder rock version of "Hide your heart"
Agreed. I like both but Ace's has more grit. More rock than roll on Ace's version
Got Trouble Walkin' when first came out and was the first time hearing it . Ace's rocks more , KISS's is more polished but still good .
Agreed. Ace's is more rock n roll
Kiss. Paul's voice is excellent on it.
Paul's voice was on point!
Amen brother. Agreed.👍
Ace. Happy 70th birthday, Spaceman.
I choose Ace’s because his ‘vision’ to rock & roll in general is more fair and laidback. See his ‘78 solo album,
I agree. Ace is more rock n roll
The song is a tale of the street and that's why I love Aces version more❤
Ace has the power, Paul has the charisma. Both are great, but I prefer the Kiss version, even if it sounds a little bit overproduced
They are both great, but if I had to pick just one it's Ace's version. Less production and more grit
ageed
Paul y Gene queriendo recuperar la credibilidad de la banda, trataron de emular el sonido de Ace y Peter...Bruce hace las pentatónicas y los licks de Ace y Eric hace sonar el hi hat como Peter.
Ace! Sounds raw and hard driving.
Agreed
I'm giving this one to KISS. Paul's vocals are way better but Ace has amazing guitar playing on his.
Paul is vocally better, that is 100% true. However I like Ace's bronx style on this and the rawness of his guitar
Ace more raw
I agree
Ace. A bit heavier.
yup, I agree
Kiss sang hide your heart best and if I had to choose between Kiss and Ace I would choose Kiss because I have to say they sung the song Best.
Pauls vocals are the better of the 2, but I like Aces because it is less pop sounding
Aces version! Sounds streetsmart! Bit cool! More rock! Not cheesy!
No disrespect to ACE but I'm feeling Paul Stanley's voice on his version and KISS as a whole performance was sublime 👌🏽
Aces version has a lot more grit. When kiss plays it it sounds 100% eighties but aces could be from any era
Thanks rnr nice😎
Exactly
Kiss is better for me because of Eric Carr's drumming with the toms on the ah ah ah ah parts of the song, just my opinion but I also like Ace's version too.
It should be said that Paul's voice and Bruce's solo are excellent, but personally I like Ace Frehley's version better, because it is heavier, and Ace's voice is really fabulous😍
Kiss's version is jut way to polished and over produced for my taste. Ace's version is more rock n roll too me.
VERY EASILY, KISS WINS!!
Paul Stanley sings it MUCH BETTER than Ace Frehley.
ACE FREHLEY kick ass on this song
I like both versions, and it is really cool to see and hear how how artists (who coincidentally have a very close connection) take the same song and make it their own. But if I've got to pick one, it's the version by KISS. It's more polished and feels like it has more emotion to me. Paul's vocals are insanely good as well. I remember getting Hot In The Shade first, and later Trouble Walking. I had of course already heard the KISS version a thousand times, and was really excited to hear it performed by Ace. I was actually pretty disappointed at the time when I heard Ace's version. Anyway, this is all my opinion of course, and to me there's no wrong answer!
Paul's voice on this is fan-fuckin-tastic thats for sure. Paul had the best voice in rock-n-roll back then.
Ace did it better. Hands down!
Ace, gave it some needed attitude
Ace
Ace Frehley
Hard to beat Paul’s voice in his prime. However, this song deserves a raw approach and Ace nailed that feeling. Kiss’s version although good, had a bit more “polish” to it and that’s not what this song needs.
The Kiss version is more contemporary rock whereas Ace is a bit more kick ass rock. I like them both but would have to say it's one of Ace's best vocal performances. Rock Soldier being perhaps one of his best.
I agree. Kiss' was very good, Ace was just a little bit better.
I had both versions at the same time like em both I lean toward kiss more cause better sound quality and Bruce's solo was better
Kiss version is really good.
Kiss versuon is very good
My personal opinion, Ace did it better. it's straight forward street sounding rock n roll.
yup
I want to hear (just for an experiment) Paul's vocal track over Ace's track.
Ace's track was more beefy sounding and rocked harder than KISS.
In early 1990 I bought "Hot in the shade" and a little later "Trouble Walkin'". I was extremly proud to get them both with my pocket money. I like both versions. Ace's has a little more dirt and edge to it. While Paul is on the cleaner site and more polished. Anyway. These are 2 worthy interpretations of a cool tune you should know. 🤘🤘
I agree. Both are great. Ace has a slight edge because of his attitude and NY accent
@@RocknRollAllNight Too bad that Ace wasn't that much creative between "Trouble Walkin'" and "Anomaly". Wasted years.
@@marclehmann1940 I know, he could have put out some great music during that time.
@@RocknRollAllNight Yup. But ego struggle and drug abuse were part of his daily business. Sad.
Def prefer Ace’s version. Think his voice just fits it plus the whole Bronx thing. Love Bruce too but like the music on Ace’s more.
But I will admit Paul is a technically better song but I’m a bit biased since Ace is my favorite KISS member and I love his voice even if it’s not on the same range
Both are Bad Ass!!! Love Aces spin on this song… he really Rocked it out. Love Kiss’s polished rendition also. For me…. It’s a tie.
Yeah its a tight match up. Both are great
Both are great but i like Ace's a little better.
same for me
Ace just has always had a better feel for guitar, riffs, and the overall sound. His guitar playing is simple yet unique..And certain songs just sound better with Ace's style.. The guitar playing from Ace in the 1970s made KISS such a great group.
I so agree
very true
No love for Bonnie Tyler's offering?
Is this a Bonnie Tyler video?
Nope. Her version sucks. Robin Beck gives the better "chick interpretation". But ultimately, this song needed the "NY groove" swagger that only KISS and Ace can provide. That's what doomed Molly Hatchet's version. Danny Joe Brown has a great voice, and the boys in Molly Hatchet can shred with anyone, but this just wasn't the right song for them. And, it damn sure wasn't the right song for a European chick.
I like Kiss version better as paul voice is excellent on this song
Pauls voice was awesome back then.
Kiss
Ace by a hair. KISS is too polished, Ace’s sounds good and raw
Agreed. Ace's style is more raw rock n roll and it works well on this song. Kiss version is great too, but Ace and his bronx style makes his version better
KISS
Ace the better...if he had still been with kiss he have had this one vocally!!. He should have sang this amazing song live when he returned to kiss, but i carnt remember them performing it live, unless anyone could shed light on it... but definitely ace and should have been a kiss hit WITH Ace on lead vocals....Ace Frehley all the way...❤
Ace version is more hard rock. I dont think they ever did this song live. That would have been cool if Ace sang it instead of Into the Void during their live shows durring the reunion tour
Love both versions, but I feel Paul's vocals are a bit better than Ace's. Sorry Ace.
Paul's vocals are definitely better, no question, but Ace's version of the song had more grit. KISS version was over produced in my opinion.
No competition. Ace. Always. He makes the best Kiss songs Kiss wishes they made. LOL
Yes, Ace's had more attitude and more rock n roll
I like Kiss's version better
Here's the thing. Both KISS and Ace can lay "claim" on making this song "their bitch". I'm as a big a Molly Hatchet fan as there is, and while they have the talent to cover a lot of great, older rock classics (check out their version of "All Over Now"), their version of "Hide Your Heart" basically sucks compared to KISS' & Ace's. Robin Beck turns in the definitive "chick version" of this song, blowing Bonnie Tyler's shittastic version out of the water. Buttttt.... what made Molly Hatchet's attempt so futile also hurts Beck, too. This isn't "a chick song". This song needs that "NY Groove" (to borrow from another great Ace/Kiss cover) that only KISS and Ace can give it. So, clearly it's essentially universally established that only KISS & Ace have versions worthy of consideration. Usually, I go with the original songwriter, unless the cover artist just knocks their version out of the park. What's tough here... is that BOTH KISS AND ACE KNOCKED THEIR VERSIONS OUT OF THE PARK. On one hand, I kinda like Ace's grittier elements. His voice isn't suited for every song that Paul's written, but this clearly is one where it is. Yet vocally, I still give the edge to Paul here. I think Anton Fig gave Ace's version a better drum sound, which is really saying something because Eric Carr was a phenomenal drummer. But, I kinda think Bruce nailed a solo on the KISS version that Ace didn't even really attempt. So, advantage KISS, right? Eh, maybe? Maybe not. Clearly, KISS' version is the more "polished" version. They'd recorded a rough demo of it in 1987, but Gene and KISS' mgmt convinced Paul to shelve the song. Paul had the correct idea that the song could be "a money maker", so he gave Gene the middle finger and sent "his song" to Bonnie Tyler, and a year later, co-writer Holly Knight sent it to Molly Hatchet & to Ace (I'm led to believe that co-writer, Desmond Child sent it to Robin Beck?). With Paul getting songwriting money for the song that Gene wasn't getting a taste of, ... all of a sudden it became "viable" again for KISS and their mgmt. Funny how a cash register going "CaCHING!" in the distance can rouse up Gene and the band's mgmt. So, they'd obviously heard Bonnie's version, and Molly Hatchet's... next up was Ace's. KISS ultimately polished their version to have greater "Hit Potential" than Ace's, but for this song... I kinda think the polish was a tricky endeavor. Did they polish it too much? This song needed to retain it's edgy grit. Ultimately, I think KISS walked the line perfectly (with the right amount of polish, not eroding the grit), and I give their version the slightest edge over Ace's version. But, that's today. Tomorrow, I might change my mind & say that Ace's version is better.
You make some great points. Both Kiss and Ace's versions are great. But in my opinion Kiss's version is too polished. I give Ace the win on this, a slim victory, for grit.
Aces is more rock pauls sounds like a top 40 hit. He k8nda drags the worrds in place where they should be quickly done with a little fire. I'm sorry paul is not dare i say doesn't have a manly enough voice for it.
Ace's version is rock n roll, Kiss's version is over produced radio rock
Ace without question. Ace is true rock n roll, whereas kiss are too polished
Yup, Ace;s had more grit
@@RocknRollAllNight Ace was the rock n roll element in KISS. In my opinion, they lost it when they let him go
@@grimmy5595 I agree. Ace is the GOAT!
vocally, no contest, stan the man!!!!
ace
I gotta go with Ace Frehley.
yup, me too
Kiss all day
They are both great. Paul's voice is the better of the two. But I like Ace's NY accent on this one. But it is a killer kiss song
Kiss ! Sooooooo much better than Ace's version.
Ace frehley did it better
I agree. Ace's is better. His voice may not be technically better, but his bronx style is better for this song.
Molly Hatchett does this song better than anyone.
ACE, it has the hard drive.
yeah, Ace has grit. Kiss's version lacked that
Frehley!
I like Ace’s version better. I would like to hear the story of how both Kiss and Ace recorded the song.
I explain some of that in my video. During Kiss' version, I explain that Paul co wrote it with 2 other people and the plan was for Paul to use the song on the Crazy Nights album, but the song was rejected. So Paul offered the song to some other artists. Also, several months later, one of the other co-writers of the song offered the song to Ace. Ace took the song. And at that same time, Kiss decided to use the song for Hot in the Shade. When Kiss found out that Ace was also recording it, Gene called Ace and asked him to not put the song on his album. Ace refused.
@@RocknRollAllNight awesome, always wondered. Thanks.
Ace is Ace, i choose Ace! True Rock N’ Roll!
Question:
Did they ever use that pic from HITS for promotional or as an alternative cover, because as much as I love the blue, I have to say I like that cover better
I created that image by super imposing the band over sphinx
@@RocknRollAllNight Cool
Has Ace ever performed this song live?
no, he never did, most likely wasn´t able to do it live, as the album version is mostly a remix on the vocals
Both Bruce and Ace are excellent guitar players but Ace gives it the hard Edge it needs this judge votes Ace Frehley
I agree
Buddy you know nothing about guitar playing then ! Bruce Kulick would smoke Ace clear off the stage !
After all these years Aces playing has not progressed the slightest bit, still the same shit he played 40 years ago !
I think you miss my point what I was saying was that technically Bruce's a superior guitar player and Aces doing the same thing he has been doing for 40 years which is good to reminisce I know both Ace and Bruce and would like to think that I know little bit about guitars your point is well taken
ACE !
I agree. Kiss version is good, But Ace's is better, its more Rock n Roll.
Thanks for watching my channel
Ace. Anton Fig’s drumming was the difference between the two. Eric Carr was a great drummer but Anton is amazing
Anton is a badass drummer
Eric Carr is better than Anton. Thats a drum machine on the Kiss version
No doubt about it Ace sounds way better
Ace's sound is more rock n roll than the Kiss version is
Aces guitar. Just makes it a better KISS song than the kiss version.
so true
Quite simply ... Ace ... (as always). ;)
agreed!
c'mon ACE
This isn't even a contest if you think Ace version is better than kiss it's probably just because you're an Ace Frehley fan Ace can't sing worth a damn no contest kiss wins this one
I think Paul's voice is top notch. Paul's voice is way better than Ace's voice. However, for my music taste I prefer Ace's version because its got more grit. It's more rocknroll. Kiss' version is great, but it's just too over produced. I like both versions, they are both great, but I prefer Ace's more.
As much as I love the kiss version, Ace's version is definitely better
I agree, both are great. I like Aces better because it has more grit
Aces solo is lacking BK solo is better.
But I like the way Ace sings it better!
Ace version sounds like strutter. Kiss wrote it so it's better.
Paul Stanley Co-wrote it with 2 other people, Desmond Child and Holly Knight. Kiss is version is great. Pauls vocals are great, Bruce's guitar playing is great. I just like Ace's better because of his New York accent on this one, and I like Ace's guitar solo better. But Both are great
When I was first learning guitar and learning both songs, I was amazed how similar the chord structures were to each other!
Ace actually changes key for the solo section which makes it slightly more complex musically. Ace for me.
I am not musically inclined enough too know that, but I do like the sound of Aces version better than the kiss version. I like Kiss' version a lot, but I like Ace's more.
Who played it better: Molly Hatchet.
Wow this is a tough one liked them both but I think Ace was slightly better
It was a tough one for me too. Both are great. Ace wins by an inch
@@RocknRollAllNight I'm gonna check out the other band's version this song is great
@@carystormtrooper8914 a couple of them are pretty good. I put links in the description section.
I like Ace's better
agreed. It has more grit to it. Less polished. Less poppy
Paul sings it far too fruity.....
Yeah, Ace adds a ton of rock n roll grit to this
It's a pretty avg song, just trying to copy Bon jovi n they failed miserably
I wish Paul vocals were on Ace version, now that would have been incredible! Overall I dig both versions!
Thats a cool Idea. Id like to hear that too
Ace frehely is my favorite member of kiss. I would've love to have met spaceace in person. Kristie nicholas
Ace is better than Paul.
Kristie nicholas
Ace's version clearly features Peter Criss on backing vocals. The only saving grace to the Kiss version is Bruce's solo and Eric Carr's performance (which may not even be him given more recent revelations about the shady (no pun intended lol) recording process of HITS). Really wish Eric got the chance to work with Ace and Peter on this tune because that would push Ace's version the song to damn near perfection. Paul's renditions just sound limp (even the Crazy Nights demo version).
I love Aces voice and on this song it’s banging, same with the guitar and drums too.
Kiss’ doesn’t have that umph to it that Aces does.
Ace's version sounds more like KISS than KISS's version does
Ace but really never liked song
Ace Frehley version Lots Better than KISS band. ITS Straight and Rawness is really much better
I don’t think ace played on his own version lol
Lame song embarrassing cheesy has nothing to do with a rock band! If i had to choose Aces!
Ace
Ace added some grit to it.
Kiss
Even though I like Ace's better, I think they are both great. I really like this song, both versions. It was hard to choose.
KISS
Both the songs are great. Ace just adds some grit that I like on this song. It is a hard call for me, because Kiss' version is great too
Ace
I agree
Kiss
