that's the thing though, these were done in the same way. 3d model turned into a sprite. it's just that now, we have the processing power to run the game with much higher quality sprites! there has actually been a lot of work to 3D model these characters as close to the original renders as possible.
The part where the "static" image of the Mario Kart 64 CG renders coming to life really caught me off guard, but at the same time, it's splendid to watch.
It's more like "how the game looks on a CRT screen". N64 games are meant to be played on a CRT, looks miles better on one of those than on modern screens

the only problem is the game is not decompiled so there can't be resolution that changes to perfectly match window size when you drag corner of window like there is for mario 64

Not to mention CTGP, Item Rain, Time Trial Racing, Knockout mode, Mario Kart Riibalanced, etc. Now a fanmade deluxe verson of Super MK’s being made w expanded content alongside this w/ 64, 7 has a mod scene w/ plenty of custom tracks, same for DD, Super Circuit, DS, 8 had a mod scene since 2014/2015, & you would see some kind of pushback from Nintendo in some way (Mario 64 online or AM2R for example). As far as I’m aware, I have not seen any pushback w/ Mario Kart hacks & mods. Again, I never said any other Mario hacking scene or other Nintendo games were somehow lesser or implied anything similar. Well aware of the insane modding scene for Mario 64, Zelda OoT, Smash, Project M, etc. & I love me my mods, but whether you factor solely Mario Kart Wii or the entire series, I feel you can argue there’s a larger creative & mainly time-tested pool of hacks & mods you can pick out easier & acknowledge both freely & respectfully more w/ Mario Kart than most other Nintendo mod scenes.
That splash screen reveal was CRAZY. This looks so so amazing! I believe I remember back in the day there are over 1000 sprites per character? This is incredible work. The lighting on the models is spot on, and the courses look like how my brain remembers them. Amazing job to the whole team!

Some of the textures still look a bit blurry, while some are a bit too HD. But to be honsst, that's pretty acurate to the original game. The characters look incredibly clean tough. They look absolutly flawless.
An hour ago I was playing Mario Kart 64 in Project64 emulator and while playing I was thinking "I wish someone would make an HD version of this". I entered UA-cam and this video was recommended to me!
I downloaded it as fast as I could when I finished watching this. But, I usually use RetroArch to emulate N64 games. Is there any way I can add this to any sort of folder that's in RetroArch?
I'm not a PS4/PS5 kid, I grew up on N64/Snes/Sega Genesis/PS1/PS2/Dreamcast and my first games I played were Atari 2600, I played Tetris on Nes with my grandma, I played game boy games. I am in my 30s now and have a Nintendo Switch, I want a PS4 since I got games for it.. My point is you can always enjoy video games at anytime and any age of course. If you grew up very young on Nes then you should have been extremely excited for the Super Nintendo and Nintendo 64 game graphics and if you missed out on GameCube than I highly recommend Mario Kart Double Dash which is stunning and you can be two racers at once which is so much fun!!! I was thrilled with Mario Kart 64, Diddy Kong Racing in 1996/1997 era for Christmas and then in 2003 the Mario Kart Double Dash graphics and all blew me away it was a very exciting innocent time still back then. The 90s into the 2000s was the best time ever. I feel so bad for everyone younger living in today's world. Keep the fun games coming!!! 🎮☺👍
Nintendo is about as anti-consumer as you can get. They don't care that people want this, they ran the numbers and decided it isn't worth it financially. Too busy developing gimmick consoles with underwhelming hardware.

This, is a fucking HD remake for MK64, an old MK with just barely FINE graphics in 1997 (yes, many people were dissapointed on MK64 in 1997, specially after the glorious Mario 64) and VERY outdated gameplay by today standards. This do not prevent to congratulate the hard work from the fan creators of this MK64HD, they'll get all the credit, they DESERVE IT. But also, it is insane to say "Nintendo is anti-consumer" just because it is not doing cheap HD remakes (for a company) of outdated N64 games, spending its human resources on them. This is not fair. Also, they tried this in 3DS with Zelda OoT and MM and Starfox 64, and the general public mostly ignored those releases.
The „Welcome to Mario Kart!“ is so nostalgic. And as much as I like Nintendo bringing old Tracks to Switch I‘d love to have a „legacy version“ as well. Well now I can I guess.

For me the N64 always felt bland. Empty levels with little details and tracks weren't very interesting. I prefer both the SNES version, GBA and GC over this. Good textures can't save this version although it does look a lot prettier.
The simplicity of the old games is something that you can’t enjoy today, not because they are not been Make simple any more is just something magic about the old games 😢

You young people today have no appreciation for nostalgia. (kidding). It looks good. My humble 40" Toshiba doesn't have a composite (red, white, yellow) input. I ended up plugging my nintendo 64 to a composite USB capture card in my PC. I can play my N64 on my 40" tv through a capture card (full screen) plugged into my PC and my PC's surround sound.

My only complaint is that the "© 1996 Nintendo" text seems to use some form of Arial (or a similar font) rather than the original font (which seems to be a modified Helvetica? or possibly the Nintendo logo font, judging by the lowercase t). The "PUSH START BUTTON" text also seems to be using Arial rather than Helvetica. Other than those tiny nitpicks, this is *incredible!*
