  • Retreating can be useful - but it can also be risky. It's one of the reasons why wing chun has an idiom that says "Wing Chun Does Not Retreat". Learn the skill other martial artists will use on you if you retreat and how to prevent it. [Wing Chun Classes, Books, Online Course at www.waiskungfu.com]

Seems like a lot of dead air in this video. A lot of which seems like it could of been filled with the other perspective. How did you get into a position of being pressured? What to do when you are being pressured? False retreating (making the other guy think you’re retreating by the energy you give him, while you’re instead leading him).

Hi dkcarey, You have some good questions. Before answering, though, I wanted to break out of the technical box for a bit and talk about my channel. The answer lies there.
I only have like 9 minutes. In each 5-9 minute segment I have to choose (most often) one single main point and a target audience. I try to find something informative, useful and thought provoking so there's something for everyone, as opposed to just a shallow fluff, self-promotion, or entertainment piece. I try to say it clearly, not speaking too fast or too slow, like I was teaching my target audience. And I try not to repeat myself - except for circle step and rooting which I try to repeat as much as I can. So my youtube channel videos have to be fairly narrowly focused with lots of great stuff getting left on the cutting room floor.
I'm pretty sure I could give a full 3-hour seminar on each of the topics you listed. They are all good topics. "Lying" to your enemy by giving false energy and leading them into a trap is something I actually have a full video on. It can be found in my 75-hour online course at wingchununiversity.com (did you know I have the largest online repository of wing chun course lessons of any wing chun instructor? and the course structured as a professional course so it's great for supplementing current training plus learning at home). I also talk about pressuring the other person, tanking and bik ma jamming in my "Tanking" workshop.
Thanks for taking the time to comment and thanks for being a part of our wing chun community. And thanks for teeing up this one for me.

@@SifuWayne did not know about the wing chun university, so guess that makes sense about going more in depth in there. You should think about plugging the university after your videos. I don’t recall ever hearing about it in the videos I’ve watched. Seems like a lost opportunity. Thanks for the thoughtful reply. Kinda feel bad I made you write so much.

@@dkcarey1 I put a link to the university course in the comments of each video, that's good enough for me. I'm a bit old school; I'm not yut making me write too much. I took typing in high school so I can type faster than I can think (hmm.. should I have typed that?)
I like your suggestion though. Maybe there's a way to thread that needle and make a classy trailer for the vids.
