  • Stationery episode 1: Wedding Place Cards
This is the first episode to take you behind the scenes of my watercolour wedding stationery business. Today I'm sharing an exclusive project with you; how to create beautiful watercolour place cards for your wedding or event.
With weddings being limited to 30 people at the time of filming it seems like an opportunity to spend a little more time on the details and create something truly beautiful.
These place cards could double up as a favour for each guest to cherish and take home. In this tutorial I show you how to use your new flower painting skills to decorate the place card, compare the paper types, use an eyelet puncher and attach silk ribbon.
If you've enjoyed this video and would like to support me further take a look at my Patreon page at bit.ly/3briO5P to see what we've got to offer.
I am also a modern calligrapher and whilst I'm not currently giving tutorials on calligraphy but I would highly recommend fellow UA-camrs Crooked Calligraphy (bit.ly/3lvuk4y) and Written Word Calligraphy (bit.ly/3hF1Hj0)

What fun! I always love behind-the-scenes glimpses of how people do their daily work, and enjoyed seeing the tools you use. If you're not in the market for place cards at the moment, these would also make lovely bookmarks.

This is an illuminating tutorial! Thank you Harriet. You answered many questions for me - how to apply eyelets, how to make the place cards (or bookmarks, I'm thinking), the tools you use to get a rough edge and especially information about the different kind of papers.

Thank you Harriet, I have just managed to buy a little Khadi paper book which I aim to do paintings from your tutorials in for a treat to myself. I loved this tutorial and will certainly be having a go. I loved the bookmark that I brought with your book. So pretty in my book. Thank you.

Thank you for this! I had to cancel my wedding that was supposed to be in July and we are now looking to do something smaller. It’s nice to be able to do these kinds of personal touches now that are numbers will be more manageable, and it’s something to get excited about!

Ah Alissia I'm so sorry you had to cancel. This idea of decorated place cards came about from that very situation, I was happy to have the time to paint 15 of these, doing 150 might have been a different matter. I hope you manage to find a way to celebrate soon

Thank you for this lovely tutorial. The Khadi paper looks really nice. I have always struggled to get a decent deckled edge on 140lb watercolour paper.

It needs to be a bit thicker to get a good torn edge. Thanks for watching!

Mayb if you dampen the paper before pulling it along the jagged decal edged ruler, it might tear better?
