Was thinking of getting my hands on the second market VF-25 line, luckily I found this channel ahead.
The tornado parts looks quite deserter when handling, with those aged losing joints sounds like a nightmare dressing in a day dream.
Seems like I should stick with my VF-1 line, may be some VF-31ax next year, just not chase back🦦

What a beautiful toy. I so want to invest in some but I just cant bring myself to transform toys cause of the fear I will break something. Ideally you need to have 2 of each but that would be pricey.

I like the way that the Tornado part wings match the body colour on the Michael version. Makes it look less like an add-on, and more like a variant fighter.
I have the Alto VF-25 Renewal with Tornado parts, and it is very cumbersome. I did put a small piece of card in the left wing to stop it drooping. I guess it wasn't just mine that had that problem! Overall, the 25 is my most floppy DX. Particularly the shoulder joints.
I chose the Tornado set over the Armour or Super parts because it looks more coherent and streamlined in fighter mode.
What do you think about the new Harmony Gold deal? Do you think it will affect the availability of Macross collectibles?
I'm doubtful, but I hope Bandai will at least increase production runs so that these things don't sell out immediately.
I want to see more stuff from the SDF Macross and Macross Plus eras. Including updated model kits (particularly Destroids).

Hey, I was just on HLJ, and saw a listing for a new DX 1/48 VF-1... Hikaru's Armoured Valkyrie. Sold out of course. Did you manage to order one? It looks impressive.

I never got any of the toys - too far out of my price range - but I do have one each of the Super, Armored, and Tornado VF-25 model kits in 1/72 scale. It is pretty interesting to me that the Tornado version model is the best of the three - but then again, they redesigned the entire backplate to make the hinges holding up the wings stronger for the Tornado packs. It's a shame the shoulder joints on the model kits are so fragile though, as my Super version is stuck in Fighter mode due to a completely broken shoulder, and my Armored version already has a crack in the same part (so I can't even swipe the part from the kit that's already broken...)
One thing that I would maybe have liked to see in the review is what Alto's Tornado packs would look like on the VF-25A toy - the only "unit specific" color on the packs is white, and the VF-25A has some white stripes on it already. Other than that, nice review. :)

Can these toys be refurbished with hobby equivalent parts? I'm deeply considering collecting a few

@@Howl-Runner If you're talking about the broken parts on my models, these particular parts are components of the transformation gimmick, so they're specific to the VF-25 kits. They're also made out of ABS plastic, and handed, so I can't combine the two kits into one whole kit because it's the same piece on both kits that's broken, and you can't fix the joint without just supergluing the whole thing and losing the transformation. :(
What you can do is just not transform them more than the minimum requirement to get the pose you need. They're not going to break from sitting on a shelf in fighter or battroid mode.

Do you think its worth buying any of the older, now more expensive, chogokin macross toys? I was looking at the yf-30, and the armored parts for the yf-27. I dont want to buy the chronos for a high price though, if they are going to do a renewal version of it in the future. Similarly, I love the armored parts for the seigfried, but not the color scheme of the jet they made it for, I would use it with the mirage or the kairos. I dont want to buy it and end up with them making another, better one in the color scheme I would want it for. Or the Perceval, if they end up doing a renewal line for that series, although i am less worried about that one.

No one can say anything definitive but the YF-30 only appeared in a game so a reissue seems unlikely. The YF-27 may see reissues some day as part of a V3 and maybe a push to get Frontier outside of Japan. The armored parts for the VF-31 sold poorly but there's another movie coming so there may be more of those. The YF-29 already got a mild reboot but there's been no hints other 29s will be reissued.

@@ScorchedEarthToys Do you think the war over the rights ending recently is worth waiting the 2+ years to see if figures get re-released, or would it just be better to jump on a fig I see on sale? Do chogokin figs have a decent resale value if a new version comes along?

Well well. Let's be honest, VF 25 is a very nicely designed plane and robot, but it is a mess with super pack or Tornado Parts. We never needed any special stand to keep VF1 or VF0 on their feet even when they were wearing super parts or GBP armor.

@@dephranque9883 maybe if another video game is released or an anime where we focus on the YF-30 Chronos as a test fighter aircraft or an anime with the YF-30 might give us a higher chance of the YF-30 getting a renewal. Cus I really like the YF-30.

I got the Decultured Ranka Lee Valkyrie, its definitely a challenge with how sticker heavy it is! But thats the main reason I bought the kit was because of all its cool decals! This aint as easy as puttin together a Gunpla thata for sure! Definitely need to take my time on this!

The main reason I didn't like Frontier or Delta was because these kinds of up-armored mecha look so dang gangly and fiddly. The anime artists use movie magic to make them ridoculously well coordinated and dynamic, but I never bought it. I cringed watching the show because of less and less success with suspension of disbelief. And these toys just confirm my suspicions in 3D.
I'm also completely bewildered with the variety of variants. I have no idea which ones I saw in the show, which were in movies that I never finished watching, and which are all new original designs for the toy line. As a continuity- and canon-monger, this sort of thing just makes my head hurt.
And droopy toys make it worse.
So my Macross toy collection is strictly limited to SDFM TV and FB2012 versions. Far easier to wrap my head around, and easier to physically handle whenever I want to swoosh or transform something a bit.
But I still keep coming here because of the quality of your reviews, even when I'm not fond of the specific content being reviewed. You do good work, friend. Please don't ever lose heart or throw in the sonic shower towel. You truly are the best at your trade.
I can't directly donate to the channel because my discretionary income is tied up in more impending political and real world matters and channels. But I will make your link to BBTS my link on my phone and laptop now. I can definitely do that for you.

yeah, i still feel like the old VF-1 remains the most believable valk design. i do have a soft spot for some of the stuff in plus and 7 though.

Fun fact: each and every one of these variable fighters, from the VF-1, VF-0, YF-19, VF-25, YF-29, to VF-31, are all designed by the same person: Shoji Kawamori, who is the creator of Macross.
Also, keep in mind that even the original VF-1 needed some anime magic to make it look good (especially those spindly thigh connectors that joined them to the nosecone, an issue rectified in future designs), and in the in-universe lore all of these since the beginning of Macross are handwaved by the explanation of "overtechnology" anyways, with the more spindly mechs having the explanation of improved technology via miniaturization and stuff like energy conversion armor. Another consideration for suspension of disbelief is that how a toy works is not necessarily how "the real thing" works, as obviously there are significant differences between a toy made for play and the actual full scale machine built for function, so it's not hard to believe that the Variable Fighters in the show work smoothly and dynamically compared to how these toys handle.
