Thanks, this worked greatl. I ordered the pull switch that matched what was in the fixture just to be on the safe side since this had multiple lights (chandelier type).
Do you know how many videos I had to watch before getting to yours, which was, the best by far. Thank you for the shot, explanation & simplicity. Ive subscribed, & now I can show my girlfriend I can DYI as well as she does!
I hope it’s not confusing to ask but, I need to get to the second chain switch which runs down the middle of the pole from mounting through fan and lights. It seems like I’ve taken apart all I can, but haven’t found that switch. Help?
Very good information, however there is one thing that I never saw after watching several of these types of videos. I bought a 3 speed double capacitor fan switch at home depot. It went in real easy, and then when I turned on the fan it worked. However, the fan would not turn off, so I figured that it was faulty. Well when I got back to the store and was about to select the same switch, I notice that there was another switch of the same size but I noticed that it said single capacitor. I asked the guy who was in that department and he said more than likely, this would be the switch for your fan. Well he was right, and now it works like new. So be sure to know which capacitor your fan is set up for.
Thank u! Stay at home mom (me) just did this using a screwdriver and manicure tools. Lol and now the light switch that's been broken for a while now actually WORKS!! YAY!
We fixed my fan today per your instructions. You made it so simple and it was. Afraid I was going to have to call an electrician. Many thanks for your video.
Thank you Adam! I have the exact same fan & I wanted to make sure I was replacing the chain correctly. This is going to be WAY easier than I thought. (Runs off to get the ladder)
can I suggest you add to your description single light fixture..I had to watch all the others or click them on, only to see the 3 lights or more. Thanks!
also the subject is misleading that you could repair the switch rather than replace the switch.. to me this is a switch replacement video rather than repair :D
To connect the 2 wires from new fan light switch to the fan/ceiling, it doesn't matter which wire goes to which?!?! (my light switch chain won't move at all, broken?)
tnx alot Adam your video help me out alot my ceiling fan light and fan wasn't working and thanks to you I was able to fix it less than 30 minutes .once again tnx and keep up the good work bro .hope your videos keeps helping other people out their in need of help.
All my pull chains were sticking. I discovered it was not my pull switch; it was friction. A little WD-40 and all my pull chains worked like new. Try that first.
This says ceiling "fan" switch and that is what I need to know about. This is ceiling fan "light" switch. My fan chain went into the fan somehow and now I can't turn fan speed up or down.
It works. I just spray WD-40 into switch. The switch can be clicked now. Thanks a lot. It is more difficult for me to replace the switch because I have 4 lights attached instead of a single globe light. Thanks again.
Just tried repairing a ceiling fan no problem taking it down and apart, problem is with the cheap ass switches made in China, these switches are junk and will not hold wire into their slots the wire catch in these replacement switch are junk and to weak to hold the wires properly, save your time and just purchase a new fan otherwise with these cheap replacement switches good chance the wires will come out and cause a short circuit or worse a house fire!
Thx for yr thorough videos. My chain broke off n now my fan is stuck on 1 speed. But by watching I now believe that I can repair it myself.I watched 2 of yr other videos n now Im a subscriber! 'Preciate ya!
Hello AdamDIY, I am very happy to see your video for replacing the pull switch for the fan you demonstrated with. I have the same one which has been working for a long time. However, the chain for the power/speed switch broke due to the material made with plastic. I would like to ask you if you ever had replaced it? I would love to know how to repair it. I truly appreciate your response if it’s possible. Thank you very much.
Great video dude, but I just need to know how you can replace the pull chain it's self. The pull chain came out of the ceiling fan light at my mom's house.
The switch you talked about at 0:50 should be set to have the fan push the air down during warm weather months to create a wind chill effect. In the winter, that switch should be set to push the air upward (reverse) so that the heat which has risen is pushed down, without creating a wind chill.
God I don't know why I didn't search these videos...I took both caps off & made my life miserable! It took me hrs, to get it all back together, as it had been days until, I got a part & replaced. I was told to attach the 2 black wires, to the other 2 black wires & that's it..We'll not really, that was the last step..after all screws & washers ect..went back in remember 2 cups, were removed...Now the wires are too long, as the existing ones were still there, & the new ones were long too.Thank God, I saw this cause I didn't have caps on my wires before, & they're showing through the clear glass...
Thank you SO MUCH for taking the time to make this video! You showed how simple it is and saved me from having to pay an electrician to do a 5 min job!!
Can you tell me how to remove the single light socket like the one in your video ? I would like to install a 3 light decorative instead of the globe light. Thanks!
+Debbie Boone Those parts usually come with the fan. Where did you plan on getting the 3 lights? You may find it a lot easier to buy a new fan because the fittings will likely not match. It's hard to give you a step by step on that one because each fan is different. You will not need to take the fan down but you will need to unscrew the light housing and then disconnect the wires and reattach the new ones. 3 bulbs is just as easy to wire as one bulb.
Thanks for your comment. Lowes has 3 light kit. I was hoping I could remove existing socket and cap to replace with new light kit. I certainly do not know anything about this....Just seems like its a possibility.
Very nice instructional video and very simple fix. One point to emphasis is that just turning off the light switch is not adequate to ensure the power is off. occasionally the switch is on the neutral side and the power stays on to the light and you become the ground.
Super!! A very well made, very concise video, shows me exactly what to do and saved me a big error. No, I'm not referring to the circuit breaker. Thanks again, Adam!!
Lol... And I actually believed the crazy Mexican repairman that told me he had to get a whole new fan, which I'm STILL waiting on... Guess I will be repairing a ceiling fan pull. Thanks so much for this...
Question: we did everything as you said in the video and the light switch works but when you pull the light switch to turn it off it will not turn off. The fan works as you pull it either way. What did we do wrong with the light switch? Will this cause any electrical fires?
Excellent instructions!
Concise, pretty clear (since I can see) and short, sweet and to the point! Kudos.
Thanks, this worked greatl. I ordered the pull switch that matched what was in the fixture just to be on the safe side since this had multiple lights (chandelier type).
Thanks! Your advice really helped!!

Great video quality. Clear picture.
Thanks so much! Totally worked!
Just what I was looking for. Thanks so much!!!
I hope it’s not confusing to ask but, I need to get to the second chain switch which runs down the middle of the pole from mounting through fan and lights. It seems like I’ve taken apart all I can, but haven’t found that switch. Help?
can you do away with the switch and just connect the two negative wires together?
This is more made on about how to replace, not repair.
Yo why do i only have one black wire
Perfect. :)

My god I hate it when people say this is a really easy fix while I'm punching holes in my wall and literally blowing up light switches.
My question is what do I do when the whole entire chain falls off of my fan that's the video I'm looking for on how to fix.?.?.?
Thank u! Stay at home mom (me) just did this using a screwdriver and manicure tools. Lol and now the light switch that's been broken for a while now actually WORKS!! YAY!

Thank you, now I know I do not have to buy a whole new fan with lights, thank you. I appreciate this.
Awesome. Thank you so much. Now I just have to find a way to reach my 9 feet high ceiling.
Aamanda W if your replacing something on a ceiling fan and it’s on 9ft ceilings you just need a ladder to reach the fan.
Happy to help Amanda
Just like my fan and popcorn ceiling :) Thanks for the guide.
How do you take the chain apart? The chain snapped inside, and instead of dealing with the wires, I was going to add an extension chain.
This really works thank you
Thank you Adam! I have the exact same fan & I wanted to make sure I was replacing the chain correctly. This is going to be WAY easier than I thought.
(Runs off to get the ladder)
Thank you bro
Great video! Straight to the point with clear, concise directions. Thanks!
can I suggest you add to your description single light fixture..I had to watch all the others or click them on, only to see the 3 lights or more. Thanks!
Anita Lenore its still the. same thing....
also the subject is misleading that you could repair the switch rather than replace the switch.. to me this is a switch replacement video rather than repair :D

I just turned off the `fan from the swich and moved the fan forward/ reverse switch up and down and that did it.

This is a switch replacement not a switch repair. Wasted my time with a bad description
Never use a knife to strip wire. Use wire strippers. If you don’t have wire strippers, buy some.
The plastic assembly is the only thing I can't open. Is there a reason it has no way to open it when others are designed to be opened
How do you tighten the screw when you putting the bowl back on after you change the bulb
The broken switch sounded like a funky bass line to me.

What kind of ceiling fan is this? I have this but the light stopped working after I hit it with a ball lol
Thank you SO MUCH for taking the time to make this video! You showed how simple it is and saved me from having to pay an electrician to do a 5 min job!!
I can't get my wires into the new chain switch
What Nikki said! Wow, so grateful I found you! Thank you.
Excellent video. I was able to fix my 3 light pull switch with ease with your guidance. Have a great day.
I have this problem, but I would need my parents help. My room is a mess
But thanks anyways, motivation to clean my room
Outstanding! Very descriptive and easy to follow. Answered all possible questions. Thanks!
How much did you charge the mom in law? Just need some ballpark figure.🤣😃

Thank you! I need to do this. Now, to figure out how to stop squeaking when ceiling fan runs.
WD-40? Just a thought lol
The only bad part about it is that you can't use the light while the fan is off.
nice video . thanks
Does it matter what model ceiling fan i have or all the switches the same?
Very nice instructional video and very simple fix. One point to emphasis is that just turning off the light switch is not adequate to ensure the power is off. occasionally the switch is on the neutral side and the power stays on to the light and you become the ground.
I did it!!!!!!! Ahhhhhh!!!! I'm SO EXCITED!!!!!! You saved me!!!

Nice video.Thank you.You should try Wago lever nuts, same principle as the ones you had but they can be used on either solid wire or stranded wire.
John Wilson Hey those look like they are worth a try. I'll definitely get some. Thanks!
