    See my other video on the "cntrl" switch and expression pedal setup. Let me know if you need more help after that. The foot switches are used for patch selection. This unit does not operate like a Boss-ME70 where you can turn on/off say Delay on footswitch 1. You need to design patches and then utilize the cntrl foot switch and expression pedal to do some other switching within that patch. Then save the patch to your user area.

    The GK-3 is Rolands MIDI pickup system which you attach to your guitar to be used with the unit. You cannot operate this unit without a 13 pin midi system. The unit doesn't take a 1/4" guitar chord to plug in your guitar. You can check out my GK-3 Install video to find out more.

    Can you tell me how I can set my GK-3's S1 and S2 switch to be able to scroll up/down the banks on the GR-55? I just got mine and I think the default is set to have S2 be able to keep scrolling up the banks but not down. Now, don't know what I did but I seemed to have disabled the S1 and S2 switches completely.

      +Heu T Comes setup so S1 up S2 down. Do a reset. the manual tells you how as well as how to setup the switches.

    Hi Michael I do everything backwards LOL I went through this yesterday after I seen your first video on the GK-3 install I am installing the GK-3 on my PRS custom. So far I can not get the stock pickups on my guitar to feel along with the GK-3 when the switch is on mix or Guitar settings position ( on the GK-3 interface ) You would think Rolland would have this info as the first thing you would see instead of putting it somewhere in a 1/4 inch manual. as soon as I find the fix I will post it. thank you for your speedy reply I know you will be looking for the fix too. I want to play now LOL thanks buddy c];-D

    Hi Mike, thanks for this video, but i have a problem with my GK3, i first installed the GK3 on my 22 fret Ibanez, it worked well, then i transferred it to my 24 fret Ibanez, then suddenly the 3 lowers strings such as E, B and G sounds so low, i almost could not hear it compared to the bass strings E A & D which sounds better. I noticed it pretty obvious that there is almost no sound at all when i play piano, but when i hit the string pretty much harder, it will sound, but not the same as the bass strings EAD. What do you think is the problem, may be you can help me out. Thanks..

      Have you setup the GK-3 for this new guitar. The bridge saddles may be much farther from those 3 Gk-3 pickups than they were on the other guitar. Every time you move it you need to go through the setup again. Also the amount of distance between the pickups and the strings should be checked. So go through the whole setup procedure to check everything out.

    Hello, mike i just purchased Gr-55 and I'm having trouble finding the settings for gk-3 edit. Also im trying to find the drums and its been a real pain! The model is in default settings.

    • @TheGospelGuitarist
      @TheGospelGuitarist  11 років тому +1

      It is in the system menu items. Hit 'edit' then page to 'system', it's the first one on the left. You can find 'drums' in the 'tone category' of the patch settings. Use the wheel and scroll to the end. I've not used the drums so that's all I can tell ya. Hope this helps! Have fun and don't forget to read the manual at least once through. You need to follow ALL instructions for setting up the GK-3 or you'll get in trouble.

    Hi Mike can l use a standard pickup on the roland gr 55 or do l have to use the gk3 pickup.

    • @TheGospelGuitarist
      @TheGospelGuitarist  9 років тому

      +Mahir Akkus You will need the Roland GK-3 or other branded MIDI pickup. Each string has it's own magnetic pickup and is treated separately through MIDI. Normal pickups send every string through 1 wire, hex pickups have 6 individual pickup wires.

    im a bit lost here, what's the purpose of the GK-3?

  • @hubertvancalenbergh9022
    @hubertvancalenbergh9022 10 років тому

    Mike, how do you determine string distance? Do you actually measure it before putting it in, or is solely a question of 'ear'?

    • @TheGospelGuitarist
      @TheGospelGuitarist  10 років тому

      Install the GK-3 then make your measurements and enter as close as you can into the distance settings. You measure between the center of the individual pickups to the center of bridge piece for each string. :)

      Thanks. As for 'scale', I play a Charvel 475 Special - I suppose that qualifies as 'strat'?

    • @TheGospelGuitarist
      @TheGospelGuitarist  10 років тому

      Yes, I would think so. Any Strat type of guitar will do as long as the scale isn't too far from a Strat. Bottom line howeve, is to use the setting which you find work best for your guitar.

      You need the manual which goes over a ton of settings to get the pickup to respond and play the way you want it to. There are too many settings to cover here. If you don't have it, you can find it online with a simple search for it. There are many factors at play. If you purchased it used you should do a factory reset first. I've never had latency issues. It tracked very fast when I owned mine. There isn't a quick fix to get it setup the way you want. Basically, you are the only person who knows what you want it to do according to your playing style and feel and the guitar. Thanks for subscribing, I hope you get it setup. Cheers!

      @@TheGospelGuitarist sir I already bought Roland gr55 with Gk3 but latency problem specially while playing flute saxophone violin piano etc fast notes the sounds cut out.
      Thankyou for kind reply

      Unfortunately, you would not be the first to receive a faulty GK-3. Lots of people have problem with that pickup, me included. The wiring is so small they crap out all the time. Do you know anyone who has a GR55 you can compare pickups with. Do the other tones work ok? Like the guitar section. You may have the sensitivity set too low or not playing hard enough or the pickup needs to be closer to the strings. Explore the settings if it all works but has long latency. I sold me off a long time ago, more fiddling than playing. I would grab another one since so many people have issues I could look deeper into to help. I do have the manual still as a reference. Hope you can figure it out, Roland may be helpful if you give them a call. If it all works, there is probably a setting somewhere you missed. Best wishes!

    Hi. do you have latency on synth sound? When i use COSM or normal pickups latency smaller than 10 msek. I can play good and feel good. But when i use PSM SYNT latency ~15-20 msek. Not too big but it makes me crazy... cant play fast things. Do you now what problem is? I use Roland GK-3 with a Roland-GR-55 just like you. (sorry for bad english :)) )

    • @TheGospelGuitarist
      @TheGospelGuitarist  11 років тому

      I don't know what instruments you are using but whatever the instrument is you need to play it like you would play the real instrument. For instance a trumpet is not going to be able to do a solo as fast as a keyboard to guitar ect. So instruments have a slower attack time on notes and you need to slow down for the patch to sound right. I haven't noticed a latency issue myself but I am not a fast player either. Not a shredder anyway. The problem however, can be that you don't have the GK-3 setup properly. That will definitely lead to latency issues. The really great players out there seem to praise this thing tracking ability. Take another look at your setup and make sure everything is setup the way you need it to be.
