Fantastic tool! This is like a magic box with infinite possibilities. I could be playing with it all day long and totally forget that I really suck at the guitar... 😊
Good video. To the point. Thank you. Any chance you can show how to properly set up for CTL tap tempo to keep my delay in tempo. I have tried a bunch of time and getting much luck. Cheers
thank you very much for this video! The GR-55 is anything but intuitive but I'm slowly realizing I don't want to play through anything else despite my ridiculous amounts of boutique vanity purchases.
I wanted to do exactly what this lesson does, clean to gritty on the EXP pedal. But the target min & max didn't do anything when I changed the numbers, the pedal just goes from 0 to full. Do you have to save the setting to try it? Every other parameter changes the function immediately without saving. I got the CTL button to toggle the effect I was looking for, but in a different way than this lesson. I checked the global settings and they are all set to patch settings. There must be something else keeping those from working. I ran the EXP pedal calibration for the first time. I previously had never seen the exp switch work; But I set a value in the box during the cal test, to like 4, and now the thing works. But still the original issue. I wonder who designs the menu system for stuff like this. If it is supposed to be intuitive, it is some other way of thinking than mine. How are we supposed to know how to configure this thing without YT, the manual only helps a little. It is laughable to press a button, scroll a wheel go into sub menus, it is a pain. I downloaded the floorboard software, and it is better, but still have to figure out what sets what. I don't want to complain, I just want to get it to do what I think it should do. It is an amazing contraption when it is set up. I also had trouble with the exp pedal when you change patches, it was going to full volume, even when it is up. I fixed that with the Hold setting in one of the menus. But now when you select a new patch there is no sound, no matter where the pedal is until you move the pedal. I would expect the volume to be whatever the pedal position is when the new patch is selected. Is there a setting for that?
I’ve had my GR55 for a number of years but have not really delved into it. The language of the manual also makes it a challenge to go ‘deep’. As another comment said, it’s not intuitive. Very informative video….
I was wondering if anyone can tell me where I can get to talk to someone about issues that I cannot resolve even with this video will appreciate contact. Thanks.
hi..im trying to do the same but i didnt get the same tone...can you tell me what did you do in your structure and expression pedal/ctr??because you showed only the settings in assign...thank you
hey - great video. any chance you know how to use the usb with audio files on the gr 55 as backing tracks? I cant use the audio player at all with the audio player. Is there a certain audio file you need for the backing track? I tried avi and mp3 does not work at all any suggestions? I also have a usb stick roland recommended to use 32 gig kingston t100 please help with any advice you could .
rrjf432 Hi there rrjf432. I gig with my GR55 twice a week and use the audio player. I've read the manual, and if my memory serves me right there are a few things you need to do: 1) All audio files must be in the main drive folder (F:/Things get Rough.wav - for example). 2) They must be in .wav format either in 16-bit or 24-bit. 3) For convenience, volume-match your backing tracks so that they play at around the same volume level on your GR-55. It's not an easy task to adjust the media player's volume on the fly during your song, so it's better to do this before saving your files to the thumb drive. Hope this helps! If you need anything else feel free to reply here or send me a message.
Trying to intall the GK3 on a Fender Roadhouse Deluxe MIM, I realize the GK simply don't fit in a comfortably: I have to lift the strings in order not to let them touch the GK, causing undesired noise. Someone of you have faced the same problem? If so, how to solve it? Thanks!
Hi! Is there anybody out there facing problems with GR 55 installation on a Win XP Service Pack 2 pc? I'm trying to install the driver for Roland GR 55 on my computer, but it shows "unknow device". Already tried to reinstall the driver, change de usb plug, but nothing worked up to now. Thanks for your help!
Is there any problem with latency ou low tracking in GR 55? Have someone of you ever compared this to other GRs such as 20 , 30, 33 or any other guitar synthesizer? It seems to me that GR33 sound more “fat” sound... And how about all those guitar and amp simulations? Are they really good? I mean, could someone compare to VG 88, for example? I Just can’t try one of these alive. Thanks for the answer!
+Jeferson Torres This piece of gear tracks great. As far as latency, there is none that I can hear straight from the unit. But if you run it through a recording interface to a DAW on your PC via MIDI or USB, latency would really be determined by your preferences in the software of your DAW of choice, Buffer settings, interface drivers, etc. My advice would be to just run the line outs to the 1/4 inputs of your interface. The amp sims are awesome. A lot to choose from, and with all the same "knobs" for tweaking the sound that the corresponding real amps have. As a plus, you can pick from a variety of cabinet set-ups, and mic-ing with a choice from several types of mics positioned in a virtual space from the cabinets. So yeah, you can get a really fat sound with the right choices. I don't know anything about the V-88, though, or any other Roland product as this is the only one I own.
Hi, just think what you are suggesting.... Just imagine that you assign two different amps a clean and a crunch, switches to chorus, harmoniser, and famous rotary sneakers / Leslie effect turning from left to right, then after choosing amps level, so..... YYEESS.... you got it.... OWNER O A LONELY HEART.... thanks to TREVOR RABIN . ..... Oh yes powerful i's this machine... I git one.....
I love the way you explained this. So easy to understand. Well done!!!

+rrjf432 I guess you've figured out by now that it only takes 16-bit 44.1K files (CD files).

Maybe someone should post a video on reading the manual.LOL
