- Catching Walleyes is rarely and easy task, at least for me, but this day was a GRIND! This outing turned out to be a 7 hour day on the water. I caught my first fish 5 hours in. When I arrived there were about 30-35 people fishing this spillway. By the time I caught my first fish (first walleye I had seen pulled out all day) It was just me and one other person there. I think that's why I love fishing for Walleye so much. It's such a rewarding feeling. Nothing beats that THUMP!
It's pretty awesome when you stick it out against all odds and it suddenly pays off! Nice work!
It’s a big part of the addiction! If it happened all the time, it’d get old! Thanks for watching!
@@theu.s.ofangling1344 I agree 100%
Awesome vid! Just recently found your channel cause you’ve been fishing local spots I’m familiar with. I made sure to subscribe
I appreciate it! I’m from Iowa, I travel around the US but the Iowa videos will always be stacking up because I come home a few times a year! Subscribed to you as well 👍🏻
@@theu.s.ofangling1344 much appreciated
New subscriber to your channel. Love it.
I appreciate that! Glad you enjoy them!
The man Cam! I havent seen you in a while brotha! Hope your doing good maybe get out sometime!
Man for sure! I’m only in town for another week but will be hitting the river a few more times for sure!
That’s awesome man, be honest I never gave Saylorville an honest run. Moving from where we had tons of options
Learning this river system has been difficult
Des Moines River Walleyes can make a guy go crazy!! They aren’t easy but it’s so awesome when you finally figure them out, even if it’s just for a day lol
@@theu.s.ofangling1344 100 percent, lot of the ones back home were pretty predictable but these with limited access to them without a boat. Makes it different for sure
@@brandonthompson5795 I’ve got a few videos from different places catching walleye on the Des Moines, Scott st dam, Saylorville dam, and sycamore boat ramp are 3 great places to go from shore!
Can’t wait checking it out next week!
I definitely retrieve to quickly!
I try to retrieve as slow as possible, but on one of the fish they hit it right after I get off a snag so I’d assume he would have hit on a fast retrieve too. But who the heck knows lol
Great video, do you think 1/16 oz jigs are the ticket? I use 1/8 and 1/4 down there
Generally I try to use the lightest jig I can while still being able to feel my jig hit the bottom. A lot of it depends on how fast the current is in the spot I’m fishing. 1/16 worked in this video, and 1/4 worked in the previous video.
Thats called a cigar were I come fromthat ain't know 1/8 jig more like 1/2 oz and that size walleyes we call them cigars hopefully you release all those.
@@tracywubben3786 I’m familiar with cigars! As you saw in the video, I threw them back.. I was definitely using an 1/8oz jig. Thanks for the comment
What size minnows u using?
There are giants right there, well into the 20s.
Where did you get your minnows?
Probably Johnston Bait and Tackle. Either that or Casey Bait and Tackle in Des Moines
18 inches ain't nothing for where your standing
Of course. I say that a few times in the video. Still put a smile on my face!
Put on a husky jerk or a rogue and use that light to your advantage with the baits rattle and you would have been catching something worth the 20 something minutes we wasted watching..
Thanks for watching! Get out there and catch something!
