The Marine Corps is intense, auditioning for Julliard is also intense. Why would you downplay someone's success in one arena just because they have successfully navigated two very disparate life paths? He seems like he is proud of both of these aspects of his identity and he also seems very humbled by both institutions. He doesn't play up having gone to Julliard and he doesn't downplay his service. I think that he has built a bridge that serves both and represents his vision in such a positive light. I appreciate that.

I mean I catch myself thinking things like that too of course, and I also don’t want to blow this thing out of proportion, but comments like these come from a nature of some sort of possessiveness. He is an actor and although he is a public figure, he does not belong to any of us. We should respect his private life and keep out it

Happy birthday is actually a really common audition song. In the theater world happy birthday is recognized as a fairly difficult song to sing, because it has multiple major-second intervals, which is when the pitch changes in one whole step. This can be difficult because many time vocalists will ‘overshoot’ a note and go sharp (too high) or flat (too low) by half steps, most commonly. There is also an octave jump, which can be difficult, and it takes a lot of focus to not go flat when singing repetitive melodies. So many times if someone in an audition has been asked to sing unexpectedly, they’ll sing happy birthday to show off vocal range and control.

@@nathanglen9568 His point is that although everyone sings happy birthday, how many people do it well and on key? I can tell you that I have heard that song at least 100 times and every time, it has sounded awful which is what adds to the difficulty aspect. How do you take something as mundane and common as Happy Birthday and make it stand out to a group of judges at Julliard. If Driver could do that then he could probably make anything sound great.

@@AlvariuxGaming If I remember correctly, he auditioned before joining the Marine Corps but he wasn't accepted, then he tried again after he was medically discharged due to his accident.
@@AlvariuxGaming He said that he decided to join the Marine Corps because at that time he felt like he didn't have any prospects, and then 9/11 happened and a bunch of his old friends were talking about joining. He decided in less than a week to join. He even joked about the recruiter asking him if he was a criminal or something, because of how fast he decided to sign up.

Yeah, multi millionaire, talented actor, proud marine. Question is, what do you bring to the table?
During these times or last decade in the entertainment business, there is just a few men that are sexy, not because of looks, but because they are real and not pretending to be the typical stereotype actor that has been presented for the last 10 years as good looking but no talent. At this moment, I am referring to AD and not anyone else knowing that there could be a few others with the same qualities. But from now on, this is a great example of what real actors should really represent, a true and real quality man.
@@divanamiami8617 I feel like we might both wind up repeating ourselves here, but when was this prelapsarian time when *actors* were authentic and not stereotypically handsome? Good looking, charming, and maybe a bit vacuous is the default personality type for actors, has been as far as I can tell for most of movie history. I might be wrong here, but I can't imagine Richard Burton being some down to earth philanthropic family man.

i believe its because adam driver is a person who all interviewers are careful with. adam doesnt like seeing himself on screen and he has walked out on interviews because interviewers arent careful about what they say/show/do. thus, people are careful with their interviews with driver.

Can someone explain the joke Seth made at 1:20 about Adam could sing a song from Oklahoma but he would only have one line? It looked like it took a few seconds before Adam really got the joke, but I'm still in the dark.
Adam was a member of the chorus in his high school's production of Oklahoma and only had a single line.
