      A $500 phone today does more than a $500 phone from 10 years ago, and certainly blows anything from 15+ years ago out of the water.
      The profit margin argument applies more to the flagship phones, but even then you have to account for inflation. During the last 4 years of a certain presidency, inflation has been over 20%. That's why $1000 phones are now costing $1200. But anyways nobody is forcing anyone to buy the flagship phones

      To be fair some flagship phones can emulate switch games and we are almost able to play pc games on them now

    Adjusted for inflation, IMO basic midrange phones that can do basically everything you need are cheaper than ever. Especially if you buy used. I'm talking about the Pixel 6A I'm typing from. Bought unlocked new for 250 bucks from big box store 6 months ago. If you told me I could get a phone like this for that much a decade ago, especially when 250 bucks today is like 350 bucks back then, I'd have called you crazy. Don't compare to the best of best that are often only marginally better

    Apart from the price issue, the thing that is in the spotlight is that indirectly you have to update your smartphone every year. Imagine if that happened in developing countries, where their economy is quietly difficult.

      Apparently the chinese don't have inflation, cause they have phones that are $180 with 120hz high PPI displays, very good performance soc's, high storage and ram amounts, etc. Its all about profit margins and almost nothing to do with inflation.

    I think the high end side of phones have gotten way too expensive but the midrange phones are still reasonably priced and at this point do almost everything you need from a good phone

      Well, they have been getting cheaper over time. You just wouldn’t know it if you only buy flagships. A $600 mid-range phone today has better specs than the $1,000 iPhone 11 did, 5 years ago.
      No shit if you compare the best of the best then to the best of the best now, you’re gonna be paying top dollar. That’s how any product lifecycle works.

    It's because we let them and you pay for a brand. Apple and Samsung phones are way over priced. Take One Plus for example. Their new One Plus 12 people keep calling a flagship killer. Why? Because it overperfoms in many categories compared to those phones and where it doesn't, it really isn't that far behind. So surely it costs $1400 like the Apples and Samsung right? No. It's $800.

    The R&D is the main factor here

    • @BradfordAdams
      @BradfordAdams 2 місяці тому +1

      There is almost no R&D at this time, it hasn't been for years! You can buy a 2018~2019 flagship phone nowadays for $200~$250 USD and have the same experience with it as you would with a Samsung S24 ultra. I myself use a OnePlus 7tproNR which is a 5g phone the battery life is still all day (& I use my phone constantly). Photos are just as good as a friend's iPhone 14 pro.

  • @BradfordAdams
    @BradfordAdams 2 місяці тому +2

    I can shoot so many holes in this video's theory. Like truly there has been no major upgrades since 2019, which was if not mistaken the birth of the 8th gen chip. Most phones also now use a lesser quality screen, the software itself is open source (aka free) besides having to pay their team to customize it, which is not anything new, as they are constantly updating and upgrading their software! The price rising has really only one major factor, someone or some team/group wants more money while demanding that production costs go down! Which they have!

    • @goJesusandStarcraft
      @goJesusandStarcraft 2 місяці тому

      Lesser quality screen? Unless you're one of the few who are hypersensitive to OLED PWM, it's very hard to argue that current phone screens (with higher resolution, higher brightness, higher contrast, better power efficiency, better colors, better refresh rate) are in any way inferior

    • @BradfordAdams
      @BradfordAdams 2 місяці тому +1

      @@goJesusandStarcraftI am talking about smart phones as a whole, meaning that 2019 flagship phones screens should be on today's mid range phones and they aren't. But I am not just focusing on the screens either, seriously flagship phones today are really no better then their previous generation, they change the look a little, make it a little sleeker slap a new generation number on the same snapdragon chip, and charge a ridiculous price for something that cost them less to produce. For years we were stuck at 4 & 6gb of RAM, well 12 & 16 are the norm for how many years now? Why not give something more for the higher price, something is better than nothing!
