Seattle Stories - Cassie, person experiencing homelessness

Cassie was born and raised in the Pacific Northwest. Her childhood in Marysville was overshadowed by the challenges posed by her mother's reliance on alcohol as a coping mechanism. The tumultuous high school years that followed further compounded the difficulties she faced. However, after graduating from high school, Cassie pursued higher education at a Community College, successfully earning her degree and securing a stable job.
Life took an unexpected turn when she and her husband moved to downtown Seattle, only to be confronted by the sudden impact of the Covid pandemic. Three weeks into the crisis, Cassie found herself unemployed, and the subsequent struggle to make ends meet led to financial hardships. The situation escalated to the point where they couldn't afford to pay their bills, ultimately facing the looming threat of eviction.
Facing homelessness, they sought refuge in the homes of friends before eventually finding themselves on the streets. Despite the challenges, there's a glimmer of hope in Cassie's story. Recently, they were fortunate to receive a Tiny Home - a temporary respite that represents a step towards the possibility of securing permanent housing. Cassie's journey exemplifies the strength to endure and the resilience to strive for a better future, even in the face of adversity. This is part of her story.
