  • This is such a niche problem, but the solution is priceless. I use my dobsonian telescope for astrophotography and taking photos of planets like Jupiter and Saturn. However, the balance is all thrown off when I attach my heavy DSLR to the front so today I'm engineering myself a counterbalance that will hold the telescope in equilibrium again without having to worry about missing the shot.

That is such a good idea ... and, being "one of those guys" that can actually drive a sewing machine, right up my street. I'll be making mine (need 0.4kG to balance camera and eyepiece turret) for a 6" newt with "Malincam" low res video camera used for "on screen, live & in colour" outreach. Actually, adding the turret to get a quick flip between camera and eyepiece meant chopping 40mm of the back of the tube to get enough "in" focus for the pigging camera. Compared to that hairy job, the "counterweight" bag will be a walk in the park !!. Great idea though ... Nice one.

Thank you ! I was having trouble with big eyepieces on my dobsonian telescope.
