    Thank you, this is just what I need to make my own frame for a print I got for cheap. I went to Michael's with a 50% off coupon, expecting to be able to get a relatively inexpensive frame for my oddly sized print, but even with the discount, the price was outrageous! These instructions will save me a bundle, and I'll be able to get exactly the frame I want!

    This is the first video I saw that uses the math formula to measure the rabbet and work to the outside corners. Thanks

    Like the equation - makes it foolproof! One thing I've always done is to cut biscuit slots in each side of the miter to align the miters and additional glue strength. I also cut and glue keys in each of the 4 corners vs nails and putty which always falls out over time!

    Found exactly the information I was looking for. I had not though of using finishing nails rather than V Nails. I am making a delicate frame and was afraid the v nails would crush it. I like the alternative as well as the explanation of the math.

    This worked great, I have never made a frame and I know they can be tricky. I found an app for the fraction math no biggie. Question could you do a follow up on this showing the actual rabbit cuts and any other details that I can't think of. I want to do this for home stuff and I want to make sure I got it right. Great video and technique anyways.

    You did good by providing the formula but the key to miters (cutting the 45 is the easy part) is that the opposite sides need to be exactly the same size. A stop block should have been used.

    Just in case people are still looking for the railing. Search (Pre-grooved chair railing) lowes, Homedepot, Manards) carry them but sometimes their railing is special order.

    The problem with gluing free-floating sides is that they can be misaligned from being flat. I prefer laying the whole frame flat on the work table, and using clamps that allow the frame to lie flat, like spring C-clamps.

    Too much overthinking. I measure from the inside wall of the Rabbet. I add the 1/8th inch play, and am not concerned about the Miter cut, only that I have enough stock. Make a template from a piece of wood, and use a knife to mark (neater/sharper) Be aware of the Kerf of the saw blade (the material removed by the blade). Make a Sacrificial Fence, consisting of an L shaped plywood section, that rests short end against the fence of the Miter Saw. Use clamps to secure (important). Now make cuts on both sides of 45 degrees. Use the cut fence marks to align future miters. Cut your stock After you paint it, and make sure to buy a blade that has the most teeth. You will thank me later.

    Something seems to be missing. Chair rail doesn't have the recessed notch cut out along the edge that is so important for the frame. Did you run these down a table saw first?

      sbazzino When I was a child in the 80's, I had a pulsar watch similar to this one. with the power of eBay, I was able to acquire this Model. It is a "Citizen JG2000-59F Temperature Vintage DualTime Analog Digital Silver Tone Watch." What a name! They make them in gold also and you can still get them new. and it is very water resistant. Do you recommend a type of board for the back of the frame?

    • @AmericanFrame

      Jason Hunt Hi Jason! After you put all your materials in the frame, we recommend finishing the back with a piece of foam core or mounting board.

    • @adrie1silva

    • @hotrodhog2170
      @hotrodhog2170 7 років тому +1

      You can use 1/8th inch clear plastic but you won't be able to clean it with paper towels. It could get scratched easily. Lowes has 1/8th inch picture frame glass that is cheap and they will cut it to any size you want for free.

    • @JoseMartinez-jh3sg

      The only "frame making" tool here really is the corner clamps which are like $9. A regular hammer works just fine and if you don't have or can't afford a $5 nail punch maybe you should just pay the $100 plus dollars for an already made frame... wait that doesn't make any sense either.
