Thanks for your great suggestions in your channel... I'm trying the following at the moment: 1. Replace the fuses with copper tubes / wire (have silver wire coming) 2. Replace the stock jumpers with silver jumpers Not even broken in yet and the sound from the LRS+ is amazing in all respects - even the bass is great! Sounds like "Live Performances!" Will soon have your other tweaks in place: the Sublime Acoustic crossover with my REL subs. And some Sound Anchor stands to elevate them in vertical position. I'm sure the total Mike Powel mods will produce amazing sound - they're already amazing. And... this is compared to my other great speakers (e.g. Harbeths, Linkwitz, Magnestand-Maggie QRS 1.6's, LaHave Mela's, Legacy Calibre's, DC10 Audio (Viking Acoustic) Berlin's, etc....). Thanks again!!!
I have a pair of lRS+. I have noticed they sound better vertical than the angle their stand provides. I haven’t tried elevating them. The give my B&Ws a run for their money at a fourteenth of the price. Yes I run mine with a subwoofer.

I did the same thing on a much lower budget where I used Dayton 12in HF series driver in a low Q (.600) sealed enclosure. My design sacrificed low end extension for no ringing group delay artifacts. It blends so well with my 1.7i mains. I'm still using an active xover modeled in Sound Easy cuz I'm lazy. Can't wait to watch this when I get off work
Would the panels benefit from an upgraded crossover now that there is less demand in frequency range being pushed through the panel? In order to bring out a little more top end sparkle.
Martin Logan is Electrostatic. This is Planar Magnetic. They sound different and ML needs to be plugged into the wall for 120V. Planar Magnetic need no wall AC Power...
Mikey, I have a pair of MG12/QR Magnepan speakers. I wonder if your setup could work with my speakers. I also would like to know if you have listened to a setup of smaller Maggie’s like these adding one DWM bass panel that Magnepan makes. I know it’s not a sub, but they claim it makes smaller Maggie’s sound much like their bigger products. Any opinion or comments?

Ok, how big of a room would this set up be good in? My room is 20x30 with speakers on the 20' wall and seating is abt 15' from the rear wall. I have been messing with the open baffle li audio and it's missing and gets shouty at abt 75 db. I have been thinking of going this route instead of the bigger Maggie's
I heard some big Martin Logans at the local audio joint (years ago now) What I remember most is the the fantastic imaging I wasn't listening to any of my familiar music but there was a new (back then) cd of a nice jazz recording It was uncanny seeing the roundness of the tambourine and the height & weight of the lady singer It was glorious....Counterpoint tube gear (and dac?) did the presentation.....if I remember correctly

The thing I keep on hearing/reading about Magnepans in general and the LRS+ more specifically is that they don't play well at lower volumes and only come to life at high(er) volumes... I myself mostly listen at averages of ca. 70dB and lower... Does this rule out the LRS+ for me?

My Dad's 1985/87 Magnepans. I personally have only had box speakers. I found that the magmepans sound that just doesn't compare to the box speakers. Subs also make a difference when you're using box speakers.

I do find it's hard to find the proper fuses to go in the back of the maggies. Especially when we're talking about the speakers that are no longer made.

You are absolutely right a great sub pairing with the LRS+ creates 10k sonics. I do suspect that the open baffle subwoofer system (GR Research right?) directly behind them integrated with the LRS+ would yield even better results. Love the aesthetics of building each panel with it's own integrated sub. Mid bass is a weakness of panels in general. The sub can be crossed over 100hz+ to help with mid bass reproduction. I must admit that I am the guy that takes down firing subs and flips them on their side, cross them over 100hz+ and use them to help my bookshelf's with mid bass duty. I would do the same with the LRS+'s. Admittedly my experience with panels is limited though. Audio is as much a tactile experience for me as a musical one. Chest pounding mid bass is absolutely a must. In your opinion do the LRS+ panels satisfy your taste in mid bass? I found them a little thin in that department. Sub integration is key. So, wish I had your budget. Drooling over all your gear. I just run a PS Audio stack with the MKII DAC and call it a day. All my budget allows. IRL I would be your best friend just to play with your toys. Thank You for this piece. The LRS+ panels agreed are one of, if not the best value in audio today.
I will be experimenting more with crossover points to see how high crossover freq works... typically I shy away from it as it echo locates the subs stronger...
Mikey. Magnepans have terrible waterfall plots because the panels continue to move when the signal stops. Also when a vocalist sings in front of you it is point source the vocalist doesn't have a mouth at the back of their head singing at the same time. Very unnatural sound. I can give you 901 reasons it doesn't sound like a live performance. Back to the drawing board.

They play amazingly at low level too. I think this is a big advantage of Magnepans.

I will be experimenting more with crossover points to see how high crossover freq works... typically I shy away from it as it echo locates the subs stronger...
Mikey. Magnepans have terrible waterfall plots because the panels continue to move when the signal stops. Also when a vocalist sings in front of you it is point source the vocalist doesn't have a mouth at the back of their head singing at the same time. Very unnatural sound. I can give you 901 reasons it doesn't sound like a live performance. Back to the drawing board.
