This and the R5 were, and still are really good machines. In some ways they are more sophisticated than my Korg Electribe Sampler 2, especially the sequencer! I have a lot of R8/R5 samples in my Electribe which sound great with effects like overdrive, bit reduction ect!
I just bought a Roland R-8 a couple of weeks ago. Until now I was using my Roland MC-505 groovebox for TR-909 sounds but it seems like many of those sounds came from this card. I might buy the Dance card for my R-8 at some point.
Who caress - You need to test the power adapter to see if it's working with a voltage meter. If that's working than it must be an issue with the R8 and probably needs to be serviced.
@Donal Finn not at all! this is someone in my city who is selling it (im in France). Alright thanks for your advice! im not scared at all to learn a complicated machine and as i'm indeed into music theory stuff! so no problem with this. I also have, like you said, an interest for "creating subtly nuanced rhythmic variations ". Sounds like this R8 is really solid stuff! Speaking about the music i made, im pretty eclectic it can goes from some BGM stuff to ambiant, jazz, electronic stuff, etc..I really hesitate to get it, the deal with expansions cards is really something not appealing to me (sounds like instead of 120 bucks the whole thing gonna cost me more like 600 if i want a good variety of sound). But maybe there are non-official expansions cards available somewhere on the internet like for the JV1080, with many more possibilities than the regular ones have to offer, and maybe less expansive. Im gonna search for that. Thanks a lot for your answer!!

The converter changes the voltage from 220v to 120v so it can work in the US. Do you have the original adapter for it?

just bought a r8 and i can't use the metronome, start don't work. anybody knows if I need a cartridge to make it work? or is it broken?
Bruna Lamego - the metronome should work without a card. Can you upload a video of the problem?
