  • Does modulaton within Maqam feel overwhelming? I have good news😎
If you want to play a Taqsim or compose using Arabic music, you probably know that modulation is an absolute must.
This is purely because variety is so important in Arabic music. With the lack of systems in Arabic music learning the core of a Maqam is in of itself is a big challenge so modulating is a next level of ‘ I will never be able to do it’ 😄
After listening closely to how each Maqam behaves, I discovered that the same modulation options occur again and again.
Which is fantastic news if you are new to Arabic music.
    😊
    Why?
Simply because it’s way more manageable to study few options as opposed of drowning in an overwhelming sea of possibilities. ✨
Let me know if you are breathing a sigh of relief reading this 😮‍💨 all my students did when I shared this 💖😎

    hi Maya,
thank you so much for sharing all this precious knowledge in such a clear and easy way.
the "secret codes" that i still have not found together on internet are precisly these rules to modulate ajans inside each maqam.
could you give us some clue?
    thanks again

Hey I am very happy to hear this:) It's no secret really. Each maqam has modulation pathways (AKA maqamat options to swicth to). good news is that these modulation pathways are completely fixed. so all you have to do is simply know your options and choose the ones you like the best. The catch is that modulation pathways are completely dependent on each maqam as each maqam is a unique independent character. So for an authentic modulation to happen you need to know the modulation options, how and when to do them. Hope that helps?

@@MayaYoussefMusic thanks a lot for your answer.
Precisely what you write in the end is what I'm looking for : clear schemes of the modulation options and, how and when to use them.
I like your approach of teaching music : listen, play, enjoy... ( I've got no time and no desire to read big books)
      Best wishes
