DJ GIG LOG: Traveling DJ Tips (Pats Peak Wedding)

  • Join me on this cozy celebration at Pats Peak Ski Resort as I wrap up my wedding season with a bang! In this gig log, I give a glimpse of what it's like to travel as a wedding DJ for an out-of-state event with only being able to do a virtual tour of the venue. I’ve never done a wedding without visiting the space before hand. So this was an interesting challenge for me that required extra preparation.
    I made sure to gather as much information as possible about the venue and its layout. This helped me mentally map out the space and identify the best locations for my equipment, speakers, and lighting. Let's see how I turn a virtual tour into a real-life party experience! 🎊✨
    Don't forget to hit that like button and subscribe to my channel for more behind-the-scenes glimpses of my DJing adventures.

    • @DJRachelLynch
      @DJRachelLynch  10 місяців тому +1

      I REALLY wanted to have it be a dance floor staple. It’s a good song, but I’ve only had mild reactions to it. Every time I’ve played it it’s either cleared my floor or didn’t have the “TikTok” viral response I was hoping for.
      So now I’ll use it for cocktail or “doors open”. It’s a bop. But my dances floors don’t think so. 🤷🏼‍♀️

    When it comes to Paul Russell - "Lil Boo Thang" try this. Give them an old school set ending with "To Be Real" for a min or two, then "Lil Boo Thang" for 1-1:30 min tops and mix out into J. Balvin - "Dientes" with the "Yeah" Sample. Let me know how it goes.

  • @MBrulla

    Started doing the table dash thing on the dance floor a year ago or so, but posted a video of it earlier this year. Can't even count how many people reached out about it and asked how to do it. I love how you got them in under the cutoff. Nice work!!
    It's such an easy way to pack the floor, right? Oh, we're gonna do a group picture - *conveniently starts open dancing*
    I feel you with Lil Boo Thang. It only hit really at one wedding this year, which was the first one I played it at. I was like...woohoo, this is gonna be a banger. And not at all. lol. I have seen SO many people using the mashup with Last Night...I only did it once manually - premix or live?
    Crushed the season as always. Long distance high five!

    • @DJRachelLynch
      @DJRachelLynch  10 місяців тому +1

      They nailed the timing! But I never let the group “lose.” I’ll loop the track if I have to. 😂
      I had high hopes for "lil boo thang." After three weddings of it being a weak song, I've decided to stop trying. I'll play it if requested or just retire it to the cocktail/doors open. It's a good jam, and I'm surprised and disappointed. 🫤
      The last night was a premade edit. It's been a staple in my sets this year for those who like country. It's a great way to "get out" or "get in" to a country set.

    • @MBrulla
      @MBrulla 10 місяців тому +1

      @@DJRachelLynch I moved Lil Boo Thang to dinner - usually tink it in there somewhere near dessert when I'm trying to build energy. Typically there will be some 90s love songs and then some motown to build the energy.
      Oh, I didn't think you would! I have hotcues to go back specifically for this reason. No one knows it's happening, but I'm on the floor watching and if it's getting close? Oh wow, the song is magically 2 minutes longer. lol
      I thought you did. It's a great edit. If you haven't yet, Regulate works great with it, too...just bump the keys to match.

    This was so cool seeing you at a venue I play at regularly! I'm wondering if it was your decision to set up in that corner. Usually when I'm in that room they have the DJ table where the cake was at your event, on the other side of the fireplace.
    I've also never set up my ceremony in that spot before. I'm usually on the deck in the back of the guests.
    Thanks again for another great video!!

    • @DJRachelLynch
      @DJRachelLynch  10 місяців тому

      Very cool spot. 🙂
      So I decided to put my stuff there. We had discussed it earlier when the couple sent me a link to a “virtual tour.” Due to the “L” shape I felt this was best.
      When I arrived they had the cake table in that spot and the dinner table right there too, so I just tucked myself in by the fire place. I didn’t want to be to the right of the head table (where they said the DJ normally goes) because it would be hard for me to see every enter for the grand entrances and place my speakers in a way to cover the space the best. It worked out great.
      They told me about setting up on the deck if I wanted to, but how can you see the people exiting the doors for the ceremony to time the music? I was confused by that. I wanted a clear view of the doors the exit and to ensure line of site with my mics so I set up as close as possible without being in the way.
      Are you normal on this side or the other building?
      Appreciate your time to check this out! ☺️

    • @j4yma1ette
      @j4yma1ette 10 місяців тому +1

      The spot you set up in for the reception makes a lot more sense. I never bothered to ask if I could set up there but I think now I will (and I'll cite this video lol!)
      For ceremony I had actually set up my table sideways so I could look 10 o'clock and see the ceremony, and 2 o'clock would be the doors. I had line of sight for both. For my mics I have the Shure SLX with 1/2 wave antennas so I wasn't as concerned about line of sight. Your way seemed to work great though!
      I'm usually in the same room you were in but I did one wedding a few years back in the other room at the other end. I like that one much better lol. Nicer looking room (more open space) and much easier load in
