Happy to help out! It's always good to hear that people get something out of the videos - means I'm doing something right and keeps me going to do more!
This is amazing, and absolutely useful. The amount of time I've spent [and lost] trying to recreate the sun-sky look in dome and scene just because you can't have spotlights in Sun-sky mode is immense, so this is absolutely fantastic. Thank you!
Glad to be of service! It's little simple things like this that can make all the difference - not only to the images we create but the time it takes to create them! Thanks for watching!
I've been using Daz Studio since before Iray was implemented, and I thought I had gotten pretty good at all the tricks and hacks over the years. But this was a new one for me. I'd never heard that removing the default HDRI defaulted to Sun/Sky. Pretty cool. Thanks for the great video!
and here I was using a Noon Skydome HDRI and spot lights to get the right kind of Outdoors scene I wanted with added spotlights/emissive for the shine/reflections I wanted. I wish I knew this 10 renders ago. Would need to go back and redo 10 renders of my comic book just to get consistent lighting. I will remember this for the scene change, thanks!
Hi Rauko, glad to see you making videos again. Could you make a video on god rays or sunbeams, similar to the one you have in this video? I know there are other videos out there, but I really like your teaching style. Thanks for the great videos.
I'll add it to the list - although I'll admit that in this scene there's a bit of a cheat. With the environment I've used comes a little fog prop and it's that that creates the God Ray in this instance .. Anyway, glad you like the style and thanks for watching!
I will be getting round to animation in due time - I've only just recently started animating myself this last year - so when I'm up to speed, I'll have a go at it!
I've started using Sun-Sky a lot more lately. I began early on using it. Moved away from it for an age - and then just come back. Emissives negate the need for this video but still worth seeing how to do stuff in different ways.
I've been struggling with this very problem, Rauko! Thank you so much for this very timely solution, it is *absolutely* appreciated! Oh, and a quick DAZ question, if you don't mind? How much RAM do you run? I find DAZ runs poorly with 48GB (sluggish over time, crashy) even with a 4090 GPU, and I've been told more than once that DAZ is a monster for RAM, and needs at least 64GB (if not 128GB) to run smoothly. Is this your experience? Thanks!
Glad to have been some help .. As for Ram .. I run 128gb with my 4090 .. I used to regularly run out when I only had 64gb .. the general rule of thumb is have 4x the Ram than what you have Vram .. so on the 4090 with it's 24gb Vram .. you should have at least 96gb Ram to cover all possibilities .. and yes, Daz is a beast with the way it eats up Ram so it quickly fills up
@@RaukoDaz3D Thanks for the speedy reply, sir! The worst part about computer weirdness is that it always provokes the question: "Is this problem unique to my rig, or is it a general problem anyone could have?". Guess I better start planning some bank robberies to pay for more RAM 😄 Okay, no crime, but I will feel that upgrade cost. Thanks again, Rauko. Be well!
Beautiful work as always! I would love to know how you achieved this effect with the fog and the light from the window, it looks just perfect. Thank you for your videos, they really do help a lot 👍
Thanks - and thanks for watching. I won't take any credit for the fog / Godray .. With the environment I used - there's a fog prop included which is designed to give this effect. Originally in the scene, there is a bright light source at the window - but I removed that so I could use Sun / Sky instead but I left the fog prop in the scene. So - not my doing, sadly!
I think this was about 6000 iterations at 4k resolution .. which took 20 minutes or so (?) on my 4090 graphics card. I can't remember the exacts but it will have been something like that!
Thanks for the video. Awesome as always. One question. Could you make a quick video with some photoshop editing tricks you use for your finished images? I feel like there is a big difference between the original work and the finished one. I'd like to know how you do it. Thanks and sorry for my English. I'm using google translator haha
Thanks for watching. I do mean to do a Photoshop video for post processing at some point .. but there's always been two things stopping me .. Firstly, I am in no way good enough with Photoshop to feel justified in doing a video on it - there's many excellent Photoshop dedicated channels out that demonstrates color grading and various other techniques that can be used (I highly recommend PIXimperfect : ua-cam.com/users/PiXimperfect) .. Secondly, I don't actually do that much! As I mention - I do a little colour grading or just play around with Curves or Blending Modes until I get something I like. There's no real process to what I do! But if I ever work out what the method is that I use - then I probably will do a video at some pont!
Thank you so much, your tutorials are really valuable on my DAZ journey. You mentioned in other videos that you prefer to do most lighting with Sun-Sky and HDRI's. What kind of lighting setup do you do for Visual Novels ? HDRI and Sun Sky take quite a long time to render (even on my 4090) and there are not too many not-dated tutorials on DAZ and VN's..Maybe an idea for a future video ? ;-)
Sorry for the delay in getting back in touch - I didn't get a notification for your message! I still use the same basic set up with HDRI / Sun Sky whether it's for video, image or VN .. and it should technically be the fastest base method. If you're lighting indoor scenes with a HDRI streaming through a window and things are slow make sure the light has an off-camera out from the room. The slowness will occur because the light will be bouncing around the room looking for a way out. So experiment with different walls off camera being invisible so the light can escape at some point. Don't over-do it as you want the light to bounce around the room - but try and find a happy medium. Oh, and make sure any removed walls don't let any (or much) light in from the other direction or your light will start to contradict itself .. If you have any other questions - just give me a shout!
Great tip! I have one for you too! It looks like you are using improved joint corrective morphs. It makes kneecaps and legs look really weird and unnatural. You can turn it down so its not so drastic.
@@RaukoDaz3Dinteresting, must be the body morph. Something made her kneecaps look really weird. Btw cant wait to check out your visual novel, I make one as well.
@Clapstain I think it's one them weird daz poses. It looks "OK" from a specific direction but completely off if you look it at a different way. I think I might be half way between the two here! 😃
I am thinking about a "adding details" video .. not just covering what you're asking - but a wider range of things. However, mostly it's finding and then using things on the Daz store that does the job for you. I'll come up with some recommendations when I get round to that video of the things that I use
Hello! Can you tell me how to transfer or convert clothes from g8 to g2 or at least g3 clothes? And save it so that it appears in the g2 pose instead of the g8 pose?
There are numerous converters already available on the Daz store to convert assets for various generations up and down. I've never had reason to use them myself so I can't recommend anything specific - but take a look for them on the Daz store. The alternative to that - doing it yourself - won't be easy. It will probably either involve coding a script (like the ones you'll find on the Daz store) or manually changing the Daz duf files that come with the asset - which I probably wouldn't advise. Best bet is to check the Daz store for exactly what you want!
Sun-Sky gives more control over your daylight scenes (or night time if you get creative with it) than what you can get with a HDRI that will only provide a specific light .. from one scene to the next you'd have to find a HDRI that will match the mood and lighting that you want whereas with Sun-Sky - you should, with a few tweaks here and there, get exactly what you want. Make sure you check out the Sun-Sky video I did last time : ua-cam.com/video/iHqB0ekiqEI/v-deo.html
Is it possible to have different units for Flux? I noticed through the tutorials that i always need to set the Flux much higher to achieve simmilar light to Yours and i thought it may be due to units?
@@musictop_SI I'm not sure when it comes to scene lights. I'm away at the moment and don't have Daz infant of me to check. You can with emmisives but can't quite remember with point / spot lights
It is a little confusing .. maybe it was an oversight .. maybe is just another Daz-ism. When you think we have "Dome Only" and "Dome and Scene" .. Yet have "Sun-Sky Only" .. but no "Sun-Sky and Scene" .. Even with "Dome Only" - it's a pointless addition .. Just give "Dome and Scene" and if people don't want to include scene lights - it's up to them! So yeah, I don't know what's going on there! Anyway .. thanks for watching! Glad you appreciated the tip!
It's always a feature .. :) .. To be fair, this could well be a feature .. We have "Dome Only" and "Dome and Scene" .. So "Sun-Sky Only" is probably right .. they just forgot to include "Sun-Sky and Scene" or reckoned we'd figure it out ourselves!
Thank you. I am first time I see your channel. My target make character like Cartoon or like Disney. My question is can I do character like Disney in Daz? Thank you
Hey there - there are certainly cartoon like characters available through Daz that you can use in your scenes and renders .. Whether you'll get them looking like a Disney movie might be a bit of a stretch - but if you work on your lighting skills you can certainly create a cartoon-ey look ..
I was just sitting there with mouth wide open and thinking WTF, this works? It‘s absolutely amazing! Just one question remains: Is it a bug or a feature 😂
Ha! It does work. Bug or feature? Hhhhmm .. I don't know .. With HDRI - we have "Dome and Scene" and "Dome Only" .. It doesn't make any sense therefore to only have "Sun-Sky Only" ... Why not "Sun-Sky and Scene"? So it maybe that not having the latter is an oversight? Maybe they forgot. As for the hack. The Sun-Sky is basically a HDRI - with extra special controls that allow us to change some of it's features. So it kind of makes sense that switching to "Dome and Scene" and removing the current HDRI Map would then effectively switch to "Sun-Sky and Scene". But given this is Daz - I don't think it would have been planned .. :) .. So I won't say bug. I won't say feature either. I'll drop it in the "Unintended Consequence" category .. :)
The only thing that bothers me is that the HDRI map always resets if you save, close, and reopen the project But it's really cool. I wish they'd fix it for Daz
Hey! I super appreciate the video, but I've discovered one unfortunate downside. While it does work while you're working on the scene, if you save and reload the scene (or use something like render queue for multiple renders) it doesn't keep that default HDRI off and it'll automatically come back every time you load it up. Other than that, thanks so much for the tips and tricks!
Yeah, that happens - and it is an issue with a render queue though for single renders it's nothing to just remove the HDRI again .. Appreciate you like the tips & tricks!
