    I remember a wrestling practice where we had our first "King of the Mountain", I was a Freshman, generally hated myself--and I won. It helped change me so much. I remember walking home from practice that day actually feeling confidence and comfort in myself for once. Wrestling is a sport that changes physical health and wellness, but can also provide mental and emotional stability under the right circumstances for the right wrestlers. That perfect blend of competitive sports and martial arts makes it one of the greatest disciplines, thanks for paying it some respect.

    • @DeepsGnome
      @DeepsGnome 4 місяці тому +17

      I mean i understand the sentiment, but that number is ridiculous. Its not 99%. Id say anything between 50% to 60%. My entire gym has stand up/takedown elements of in our bjj classes. Roughly 90% of the bjj students in our gym can take on, and in most cases beat the average high school wrestler. Its only some gyms that don't focus on stand up. But certainly its not 99%. Particularly gyms with gracie lineage. Sometimes we'll spend entire classes focusing on stand up elements. But yeah there are still way too many gyms that don't focus on it, when they should. But it's definitely not 99%.

    Just recently on November 4th i broke my collarbone wrestling. It was the last match of live wrestling during practice, we were doing 1 minute rounds. I wrestle 128 and the girl i was paired with was 160 or 170. She never really does shots because shes scared to hurt anyone, she finally did a shot and it was a beautiful blast double and i fell on my right side and snap, she popped up and we both just cried she thought it was her fault. There was another girl who i had wrestled with earlier who weights 119. Ya basically just be careful with weight classes stuff happens.

    The main thing I noticed is you stood real high after you went for something, in wrestling you need to keep it ingrained in your bones to stay in stance because you do not want some of these kids to get those legs unless you want to go up and then down. For your first time though you did really good. I also think if they taught you atleast one front headlock to back transition it would've made you a lot better given you played defensive and sprawled into it more than a few times.

    Love the video but the loud music during the sparring? Would be much better with just the regular audio.

    Hey Josh; really love the judo content and I know you entered a tournament.
    Do you think you could do more tournaments or real fights? I saw an in house tournament recently and there was a beast of a woman who came 2nd in a grouped division because not enough women/competitors in that weight class. She won her fights with a brilliant timed foot sweep, newaza and one competitor injured himself (he landed on his head while attempting to throw).
    I remember the video you did with the open mat sparring but you didn’t want to use force. I’m really curious how you’d do if you faced a woman like that. She’s just about big enough (your size) so you can’t really rag doll her but she was great with timing whereas in your tournament you were out manovered into a throw. Would love to see how more fights for you would play out; different ways to win or lose

    at least he got a water break. when season is going on, your staying away from water or drinking a ton of it. He left out, the dailly wrestling practices are mostly done, while dehydrated to make weight for that week along with being super hungry. I wrestled and was always practing everyday while on a 800-1200 calorie diet of strict nutrition.

    Very small wrestling room...are those even wrestling mats? There are no boundary marks or neutral starting position marks.

    Slippery mats are a major health issue in no-gi. Most coaches are totally dismissive of the problem.
