Vintage gliders in Sweden - Ålleberg

- Filmed vintage gliders at Ålleberg for three days during summer 2019. This is a historic important soaringcenter in Sweden. Inspired by the germans this was the place to fly gliders.
I want to thank all people i meet at Ålleberg for your passion flying and restoring vintage gliders from the 30-40s. - Наука та технологія
Bernt! Delighted to (re) find this video and see an old friend still enjoying the simple pleasures of fun gliding . It doesn't seem like 51 years have gone by since this ,then, young Australian turned up at Kirchheim and got inflicted on a young Swede to try to knock out some glass 'hot ships' whilst suffering my appalling German and then chaperoning me around Europe backpacking on a gliding themed 'budget' holiday - best time i have had actually and still brings back memories... ( your desire to own a palm tree and having to photograph you next to one in the Nice railway station comes to mind.... or sleeping in the grounds of the Swedish embassy somewhere or other and the other 'features' of youth hostel etc accomodation.
I really never thanked you for your friendship in helping me "fit in' in a strange country with almost no language and how much having your fluency in English did help.
Really must get back to Europe and even Sweden - perhaps even try out those 'choice' Swedish phrases you taught me just in case we got there on the big 'urlaub' ( l think i might know what they actually meant after i ran into a couple of Swedish tourists in the library many years ago ...(who also came from Skovde! - add umlaut )
Heartwarming to see the old Olympia/meises still being looked after and enjoyed - my family owned the oldest glider still flying in Australia , the famed "Yellow witch" Oly 2b homebuilt from Chilton plans in 1948 , it started the gliding movement in New Zealand after a tour being aerotowed from place to place to give demonstations. I flew maybe 200 hours in it and my father continued to fly it until just a few years before his death about five years ago ( a truly viceless design as mentioned in your excellent video ) i flew several 300k triangles and one 400 but my father would not rest until he had done a 500k triangle in it which he eventually did. I was lucky enough to win the state championship (sports class) in it in 1973 and seemed to get some "jungmeister" status from that, did not even get s check ride before Klaus let me use his standard cirrus (sierra swo) on the Hahnweide... ah the memories.... I'd love to get back in touch and catch up if you'd like , anyway it was great to come across this video and see how the old 'mitarbeiter' is doing.
Vielen gruss old friend.

What a wonderful film. Thank you so much for posting this. Regards from Québec, Canada.
Did a 300 km diamond goal out and return in a K6cr using thermals all the way. Great to fly this wooden glider.
Wonderful video! I soloed in 1974 in a Ka13 and share your opinion about the vintage gliders. Keep them flying! They have more sole than today’s fiberglass gliders, which all look alike.
In 1946, a year before I was born, my Dad was employed to redesign the Meise to suit British aerobatic requirements. Essentially the same silhouette, but beefed up for strength adding about 30kg. It was the Chilton Olympia which became the EoN Olympia
9:33 - I loved flying our Ka-6CR when I was like 19 - I once spent almost 6 hours non-stop thermalling above Värmland in Sweden... only nature's call brought me down. A lovely video, thank you!
The elegance of gliding
Gentle filming easy on the ears and beautiful memories of Sweden Thank you
Magic bit of filming. Loved the camaraderie and appreciation for the past. Brought me back to happy days in the Dublin Gliding Club in the the eighties. Loved those old gliders Ka 7 K8 K13. Really miss old friends that are gone. Especially miss my friend Brian Douglas RIP. Think of him all the time . . . P
Alll the best to you.
What a great film. Really good to see vintage gliding alive and well out in Europe as well as at home. Maybe we'll get to meet some day.
Best regards,

A beautiful presentation. Thank You!
Thank you so much for a very excellent video of encouragement for all younger pilots. Regards

Thank you😊
Warms an old glider pilots heart. Learned on 1950s/60s planes in the 1980s. Even back then classic planes were in my heart although I was young and everyone around me wanted fiberglass planes.
Thanks for this interesting film full of old memories!
Thank you🙂❤️
Beautifully constructed, beautifully filmed. Best gliding video on UA-cam - many thanks.
Thank you so much!😊
Started gliding in 1967. Solo'd in 1968 at 16. Still gliding in 2023. Great sport. FAI/BGA 51417.

What a wonderful video with well narrated introduction to vintage gliders (BRG to Ingvar Hyllander/ Ystad from whom I purchased my Mucha 22C Standard)
Thank you!😊
Beautiful film! Reminds me of my time in the club at Farnborough where most of my dual time was on Ka-7 and ASK-13 and the single seater I most enjoyed flying was the Ka-8. Club members also had a Grunau Baby and a Skylark.
This is a wonderful video that is pure joy to watch. Well done and thank you!
Thank you😊
Wow! What a wonderful film. I so hope that I will have a chance to meet you all again this summer. This film brings back so many nice memories from last summer.
Your videos are always amazing to watch, they are beautiful !
Thank you!😊
Jesper... wonderful cinematic coverage of the rural flying club! Beautifully mingled imagery and audio. I spent several days flying with the Boulder Soaring Society, (Colorado) riding in their tow plane to shoot stills of member sailplanes... very challenging air to air subjects, but worth the effort.
Excellent. Thank you 😊
Thank you for keeping Vintage Sailplanes alive and flying. Soaring is a very special spiritual journey. You learn much about yourself.
Wow! Excellent! I loved this. Very well done! Your new fan from Minnesota, USA.
Thank you so much!😊
Underbara bilder som erinrar om en fantastisk tid i en Bergfalke på Ålleberg 1959.
Agree. Best gliding video I have seen so far. Such a beautiful place, and two EoN Olympias nontheless. Thanks for sharing.
loved the film i have a olympia meise 2b been flying it for over 20 years got my silver C in one flight lovely old glider had some great cross country in her no vices lovely film
This is nearly a perfect mini documentary film. As a somewhat new soaring pilot I drooled through most of this video. Such amazing vintage gliders. Thank goodness for this clan of dedicated pilots to preserve these classic and important bits of aeronautical history. And the fact that you can still flying in an 80 yr. old
Sailplane - WOW! I hope to come visit soon (retiring in 2 yrs.). This would be a dream to fly here in such classic vintage ship! Thanks for keeping soaring alive and healthy.
Thank you and I hope you can visit Ålleberg🙂🥰
Awesome on all levels.❤️
Wonderful film, top quality photography and production. 👍🇦🇺
My favorite video you've done so far! Loved the commentary and story along with the absolutely outstanding and beautiful footage. Also loved the duration. Please more of this...20 min videos with pilot interviews and history! The ride was amazing as well...loved the way you stopped the music and just let the wind do the talking. As close as we'll get to being a bird that is. You are one of the best at what you do.
Thank you so much for your comment! Warms my heart.
What a great video. Brought back all sorts of memories. I did my first 5 hour flight in an Olympia 2B and my first field landing in a K6CR.
Thank you🙂👍
I always wanted to fly a sailplane. Thanks for the video. They have a beautiful place to fly.
really nice Video and wonderful Planes...
This should be in a theater, not on youtube - this is art..
Thank you very much!😊
An absolute pleasure to watch and listen to
Thank you👍
This is wonderful.
Gliders are the purest way of flying a fixed wing aircraft.
Thank you and i agree😊
Beautiful film! Art!
Thank you sir🙂✈️
This is FANTASTIC!!!!!
Thank you sir😊
Szybownictwo to najpiękniejszy sport jaki ludzie wymyślili.Szkoda,że jest teraz mało w Polsce popularny,głównie z powodu wysokich kosztów jego uprawiania.
reminds me at the sg38 flying on the wasserkuppe. Beautiful
Excellent video to help people to see where gliding came from.
Thank you🙂
Fantastic video!
Thank you👍🙂
Snyggt, intressant och bra hantverk
What a magical place and life.
YES - very well captured moments by the person holding the camera!
I don't like flying but love to see gliders in the air. I am doing some model airpalne free flight and thermals are a given subject for trying to understand. Where I live in Borås there is a more or less permanent thermal position just above my house. In the autam large numbers of cranes "stop" here to gain height in this frequent thermal.
Love this one Jesper!
Thank you!👍😊
Beautiful. I’m in!!
Very beautiful! Nice job :)
Thank you😊
Beautifully done. I have a feeling that gliders are more popular in Europe than in US. Anyone else?
I believe that has something to do with the outcome of the First World War and the Second World War. Probably due to the restrictions regarding the versailler contract.
@@henrih3080 Makes sense.
Agreed - I think it is because more Americans just want to turn up, fly and go whereas gliding requires people to prepare, support and put away at the end of the day as well as fly.
@@richardmasters8424 You may have a point there. It's business too though. I was well on my way to a PP license at one point in life and have had the desire bubble to the surface multiple other times, and during all of that along with accompanying voracious reading I don't recall any real marketing efforts for anything but power flying.
Another factor could be that Europe is known for good mass ground transit. So they can get around much easier than we mere Americans can. Thus the compelling need for multiple personal transportation methods. We have to get places and individual powered flying is one such option. Gliders not so much.
The gliders presented here in this film are a testimate to the Beauty and quality build that one doesn't see anymore ..
Best wishes from your VGC - friend Ingo from Germany
Awesome nice, greetings from Remi from Belgium
Thank you😊
Helt glimrande produktion igen Jesper, man blir sugen att ta tillbaka segelcertet igen :-)
Tusen tack Tommy❤
I do not want too look in my phone for this video, I will save it to my 55" new Samsung TV, this evening. I will go back and enjoy a lot of the old videos too. THANKS!
Thank you Dan!😊
@@JRVAviationVideos I saw it, beutiful sailers, good people, fantastic views. And a very excellent video. From now, only 55"!
What a lovely well made film thank you. How anyone can give it a thumbs down is mind-boggling - must be trolls! Was 375 thumbs up, now 376...
Thank you😊
Wow! So intimate. So solitary. So peaceful. So friendly to Earth. So environmentally responsible ☯️♒️
Just caught this video.....Hope to visit your glider port very soon!
East coast...USA
Welcome🙂
I dialled a Swedish gliding friends name of many years ago, Bengt Micrander, and the gliding site at Alleberg with this wonderful video came up. I thoroughly enjoyed going back in time when I flew in a Bergfalke at Orebro. Does anyone know of Bengt from the past?
Tack Erik! Fantastiskt ställe också😊
Well done!
Thank you😊
Это здорово❤️
Wonderful, Jesper. Compliments.
Thanks my friend! Hope to see you again 😊
Wish these vintage gliders were still being made==new stuff is too fast and less relaxed.
I live in Falköping lol Next to Ålleberg
A replica of the ORLIK OLIMPIJSKI glider is being built
ua-cam.com/video/bNgljvr3jbI/v-deo.html
being built by Jerzy Gruchalski (Poland AD 2023). The construction was invented by a Pole Antoni Kocjan shortly before World War II. Orlik was a better design than Olimpia DFS was not selected for the Olympics, because the commission was German ... unfavorable to Poles. Kocjan was in the Home Army (AK) resistance organization during the war, he provided the Allies with information, among others, on V2 rockets. The Germans murdered Kocjan in 1944 in Warsaw at Pawiak. Thank you for this great video about Swedish glider flying.. really impressive.
Asking below about Bengt Micrander I still glide st Portmoak in Scotland after
Many years. If anyone has knowledge of Bengt I would be pleased to hear from them. new2018@interbild.com. Many thanks.
@@thomasdocherty2890 Sorry to say, Bengt, a real nice character is gone since several years ago.
👍 👍 👍
Ännu ett Mästerverk av Jesper !!
Tack Marco!😊
Jeg kan genkender følelsen af at svæveflyve fra 1970 hvor jeg selv fløj hos KFUM spejderne i Danmark
Gliding don't need to be in the stinking olympics .
