After Stacker's motivating speech at the Shatterdome, he heads towards the cargo elevator to proceed to the entrance of Striker's head. As he briefly walks towards the elevators, he is tagged along by Chuck, who appears to be suited up for the ride as well. Chuck questions Stacker of how their minds are going to be melded just fine since they haven't run a Jaeger together before. Stacker says that he already solved the puzzle since the day they've met. Stacker evaluates on how Chuck is an egotistical jerk with father issues. And how he carries nothing into the Drift, including his memories and fears. So he would drift just fine.
The large metal doors open as it allowed Stacker to enter the elevator and set it on standby. Herc stands behind as Chuck turns around. Herc regrets on how he's never been able to make time for Chuck for their father and son relationship. And all the negative things he has to say about his son. Chuck reminds his father that it's alright because he always knew more ever since he got into his father's mind. Chuck's pet dog barks at him, Chuck kneels down and pets his dog and says his goodbyes to his companion as well.
Chuck leave all responsibilities of taking good care of his dog to his father. Those became his last words to his father before he left to enter the elevator. Herc in return, give the trust of taking care of his son to Stacker as he'll go to the end of the line with Chuck. Chuck tears in pain while facing his father. Looking at his father for one last time with his pet as a picture that will stain his mind forever even after he dies.
Chuck enters the elevators. The elevator doors went shut. Mako and Raleigh appeared to be attached to their conn-pods inside Gypsy's detachable head. Raleigh pitied how he's always looked into the past, but this time he'll look forward into the future. How he's ready to now have a good time with Mako. Then, Gypsy's head drops down floors as it lands and attaches itself onto the body. The Jaegers are sent out to the Breach area as the choppers released the wires off the Jaegers. The giant massive feets of both Jaegers plunges into the ocean floor. Gypsy and Striker stands back up straight and walks deeper into the underside of the ocean surface as all access for the water to enter into the Jaegers have been sealed. The two war machines submerge into the ocean underneath. To be continued...
Awww...YES!! Finally! We're at the last minutes of the film already. Woo hoo! I have to say, the part where Chuck teared up for his father was pretty emotional. See...not every jerk is completely a jerk is it? It's not outside that counts everyone! It's inside with who they are. Ha! Well that's all I can say for now! Hope you guys enjoy this scene. Don't forget to comment, like, add to favourites, share and subscribe for more Pacific Rim! Bye!

You got it all wrong. They literally had a stronger relationship than virtually every family on the planet. This scene made no sense at all. He and his dad literally knew every single detail, thought, emotion, they ever had for each other. Words are a meaningless gesture but he drifted with his dad and felt every once of love his father felt for him. Imagine feeling the love your father had for you the first time he held you as a baby, imagine feeling the pride he felt every time you accomplished something that impressed him. Words are pointless compared to that. And it worked vice versa, his son knew all his regrets and his sorrows for the mistakes he made. Again telling someone your sorry is pointless when if they could feel your sorrow and regret. A drift would be the only true way to know how someones feel because you can't lie or pretend as you both have full access to each others minds and feelings.

Bruh. Of course. No reason to be ashamed. I'm not sure what led to you not having your pops around, but I'm sorry it happened that way, one of my ex-friends had so many issues growing without a father, he never knew who his father was, he said he didn't care, his mom supposedly tried to tell him, but he wouldn't wanna hear it. Then, when he learned from his grandpa that his father was at his highschool graduation ceremony, he came there to see him, he broke down crying.
I'm not sure why it happened like that, why his father never came to meet him in person. But it sure left a mark on him, reflecting on all aspects of his life.
Idk what to say, hope you're doing okay, man. Just know that in a way, all parents love their children.

If I remember correctly, Striker didn't have jettison pods, for some damn reason. Hard to tell if that's accurate or not, given the fact that during Chuck and Raleigh's beef earlier, Chuck says something along the lines of "I like my life and want to keep on living" when he's listing off why he doesn't want Raleigh and Mako defending his bombing run. So it's one of those "was it a suicide run, was it not a suicide run?" things.
Then you remember it's a giant robot with a tactical nuke strapped to it to blow up a bunch of interdimensional aliens, and logic can take a back seat for a while.

It wouldn’t have been as emotional had the son been the one saying goodbye. Besides it’s not like Raleigh made it back to the mainland by the end of the movie, so nothing would’ve come of it. As for why Chuck has daddy issues, during one of the pre Jaeger Kaiju attacks, Hercules Hansen was part of the Air Force and just before the nukes were dropped on the Kaiju he had the choice of saving his wife or son. Both were in separate locations and Herc only had time to land at one, so he chose his son and the son resents him for letting his mother die
