I am 100% Native American and I love this song and I’m not offended by it. It’s always good to have fun and laugh we have to much bitterness in this world.
I am 💯 Native American from the Acoma tribe in New Mexico we have 19 pueblo tribes from our state. I was sad to also see the Washington Redskins are going to change their name. How many years did they have that name and now ppl want it changed. I just don’t get it the country we live in now have bigger things to worry about than team names.
💯 percent Native American and proud....
i am 2 percent native american and i wish this was my entrance music wherever i went
I am. also 100% Native American :)
@Alfie Martin exactly
These guys are legendary. Like seriously, they were pioneers.
They are pioneers of rap🎶🎵🎶
Pioneers of if what, they were just the face, they didn’t write their raps and this is disco music, they just so happen to be rapping
The producers were.
My grandpops was on the drums for sugar Hill gang
@@damnbro4867really? you’re a woman born in 2004 good for you man
I had the pleasure of seeing the Sugar Hill Gang do this live and the audience joyously breaking out into the Will/Carlton dance around 2013 or 2014. What fun!
Oh man I ENVY YOU ... but in the BEST way
No lie I thought the group were the ones who invented that dance, you put me on to something new that The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air invented that dance too hilarious of a fun fact😂
Came here from Rappers delight and heard the first two notes and started doing the dance myself while doing housework today. God I feel old now
A big hit re-released 10 years ago. A decade later, Tonto and many millions of others are still continuing to "Jump On It"! Truly a memorable song and video by the Sugarhill Gang!
Me and my brother doing the Fresh Prince dance to this at my wedding, and everyone else thinking we'd choreogaphed it. One of my better memories
Please say someone recorded it, that is just one of those incredible unrepeatable moments in life
Congratulations on your wedding👍
Hey GlovedManiac this is guna sound super weird but is your name Eric?! And did you marry a woman named Megan?! If so I have some news for you cuz I was there and I'm Megan's cousin hahahaha

I lived this song growing up. I'm not sure it would go over too well today.
That's why today sucks!
We used to dance to this song at school dances 😂💀
Me to😂
Same here, everyone loved this in elementary school

I’m here because this song is a classic & because Will & Carlton killed this dance💁🏻♀️😎
Awesome perspective
This group was the one who started it all. I remember in 1979 when the Sugar Hill Gang released Rapper's Delight. I was in the 11th grade, but that one song forever changed music as we know it. Wonder Mike, Big Bank Hank and Master G introduced rap music to the world. But it wasn't until 1985 with the movie Krush Groove that Rap Music became mainstream and the rest is history.
This is hip hop not rap

This dude did an excellent job describing the song. I knew exactly the song he described, just didn’t know the name. One of the all time frustrations is not being able to ID a melody you once enjoyed. Happened to me with the Apache Intro by Sugar Hill Gang. Seemed like they played the whole song without the versus back in the day, just instrumentals & it took me 20 years to find it with verses. The relief was indescribable. Watching this video prompted me to find the instrumental. 8 minutes and 16 seconds of pure bliss.
My ex-mother-in-law had a cat named Apache and I would sing this to him. He was such a sweet big boy. ❤️
As a native I'm not offended by this i actually like this song
You do not speak for all native americans
Thank you geez people are so stupid nowadays

LONG LIVE THE SUGARHILL GANG!!! Great music!
Back in the day as a child in the 80's this song was my absolute fav! It rarely played on the radio so we would all jam out and do a little made up dance to it when it came on. It's catchy to me.

One of the all time best songs! So much joy was had dancing to this.
I wonder if they (SugarHill Gang) ever knew how much the audio sound clips would be used even today in 2020. I hope they are still getting paid royalties!
They aren't . Sugar Hill Records owns the name " Sugar Hill Gang " , so they are the ones who receive the royalties. Lady Luck is related to Sylvia Robinson.
The original sound bite is Apache by the incredible bongo or something I don’t know if that helos

Old skool Hip-Hop! Classic Rap 👌🏾
I have heard the chorus of this song on so many commercials for years and couldn't remember the title until yesterday when it came to me through a UA-cam video I was watching. I love this tune!
Peace, love, unity and having fun. That was the message during hip hop's early days, now look what we have come to

Now it’s about rapping about drugs and inappropriate stuff.
This is the difference between emceeing and rap
Rappers spit rhymes that are mostly illegal
Emcees spit rhymes to uplift their people
Peace, Love, Unity, having fun
These are the lyrics of KRS-One.
Yeah, it'd be great to bring the fun back to Hip Hop. But if it hadn't taken the turn it did with The Message by Grandmaster Flash, Hip Hop would have gone the way of disco before long.
Who ever wrote this hook is a Genius lol

Yeah, the original was written back before you were born. It was far more musical and creative. This sugarhill gang shit is a joke.

Haters gonna hate. F them. I love this.
This is rap N 25 , anyone agrees??
I am glad to see this song reach through to the hip-hop audience. I love all of the surf-oriented original virgins from the early 60's, but this virgin is great, too. Mos def a club mix that has widespread interspecies appeal across the galaxy.
Ya'll probably unaware of the origins of this song: the pop band "The Shadows" released it in 1960. They were a pop band in the UK, with incredibly good instrumentals. It was then used as a cover version, as shown in this video. The Sugar Hill gang are probably having to pay royalties to a group of white dudes from Newcastle upon Tyne in Northern England & Southgate in North London. The original creators of this song are all lovely old chaps from England surrounded by their grand children, much loved by anyone who knows them.
Lol no one asked
Excellent background of the song. The original by The Shadows was far more musical and inventive. The rap shit version by sugarhill is copying and ‘wannabe’ by a bunch of talentless guys.
Fuvkmedrippy they didn’t have to. 7adrianb was telling you the history of the original and far better version of the song. These clowns called the sugarhill gang simply copycatted the original.
@@a1chemist1 no one asked for your shit takes either tbf.
@@erinrulezok they didn’t have to ask, or get your permission. Might makes right, always has, always will. Plain and simple truth: talentless band tries (but fails) to copy real talent.

I am a Native and all I can think of is the Fact that both Natives and African/American peoples have been Used as background props and so Much More at the Hands of people who Only see $ signs, I say just Enjoy the music and leave politic politics out of it.
+Michael Thompson Copper-Warrior What?
Only if you consider all people of similar complexion to be one and the same, which would be kind of racist. Some Native American populations were dark-skinned, but that doesn't mean they are genetically related to sub-Saharan populations, which is what it sounded like you were implying. It's true that the term "negro" was applied to any dark-skinned people, regardless of their location, which was itself a racist concept, as there are numerous dark-skinned populations around the world that are not related to one another (except in the context of being humans). "Negro" was used to describe everything from Caribs, to Africans, to native Australians, to Papua New Guineans, all of which are dark skinned but are genetically dissimilar. Basically, when you say "negroes" are native Americans, you are being a bit misleading, because the term was applied across ethnic lines and not of Native Americans exclusively.
Ok, wow. What you just said is so contrary to the truth I don't know where you possibly could have heard it. It defies all archeological, historical, and genetic evidence. I'm honestly baffled that anyone could think that. I was merely saying racist people in the past didn't differentiate between dark skinned people around the world(simply calling them all negroes despite them being different), but what you just postulated is utter nonsense. I'm sorry for being so blunt about it but there's simply no other way to put it.
You're delusional.
Michael-Thompson Copper-Warrior You are absolutely right!
Im NOT a Native American at all. But even though all these "Indian" customs were around on tv when i grew up and they are not accurate. I actually end up loving the culture and studing a lot of history about it, and it means a lot to me and i have tonts of respect for the real ones!! 🙏🏻
