Im 62 years old and will die somewhere on the rail trail or road at a very old age ! I’m trying to plan a ride across the upper peninsula of Michigan from st Ignace to Escanaba and plan 47 miles per day there 3 day trip then 3 days back ! Im in no hurry just enjoy the ride at a moderate pace ! I enjoy your videos very much ! Keep inspiring people as you are !
I'm happy to have discovered your channel. I'm 62, recently got back into cycling & live in California now. I grew up in England & used to live in Hampshire in West End. When I was a boy of 9 or 10 a friend & I cycled from West End to Bishops Waltham & back one day. I'd forgotten all about it until I watched this video. It was a great adventure & felt like we were riding to the other side of the country! Good memories.
As always Leonard, a fantastically detailed and informative video. Not aimed at the typical cycling stereotype, but us ‘normal’ riders. Being rather heavy myself, I’m starting to take the plunge also and get back into cycling, as I’ve always enjoyed it, I just need to shift some fat and try to boost what little exercise I do currently. Cycling definitely seems the winner as it has no ‘real’ impact on any major joints etc. it’s very enjoyable as you’re outside in the fresh air, and it’s free ! (Apart from the bike, clothing, equipment, nutrition.... you know what I mean !!) Thanks for the videos, they DO inspire and they really DO encourage. Thank You !
I have just turned 50 and stared cycling again about a year ago. I’ve just found your channel, you have a new subscriber. It’s great to see someone with a similar shape as me cycling.
Hi Leonard, great to see you in my playground. Isn't the Meon Valley lovely and so cycle friendly. Have you tried Beacon Hill from Exton? In my opinion tougher than Old Winchester Hill albeit without the joy of a coffee and cake van at the top. Maybe one day I'll bump into you, I'm a 64 year old in FLAB bibs, hard to miss!
Hey Leonard. The improvement of your videos/vlogs from last year is almost amazing. Most of the videos from last year were about "Why should I" usually referring to training up to the ride at the end of summer. Your videos have changed since the beginning of this year to reasons why everyone else should, including getting out and seeing the scenery around you. Things around you, you would never see if you were driving/riding in a car. It is heart warming to see your burgeoning joy/love for bicycle riding taking off. I think I would actually shed a tear if I heard you say... "There are no recovery days."
HI Nathan, I do enjoy my cycling. I'm constantly striving for better, both with the actual riding and these blogs. Who know about the rest days....maybe one day!!!!
Thank you so much Mr. Leonard, Since I started watching your channel you gave me a lot of inspiration. because of your informative videos, fortunately I lost around 19 KG since the last two months and my overall health got much better For that, I should thank you Best regards from Kurdistan region of Iraq

Hi Joe, I actually shot this film out on the island of Mallorca so its not quite in in my local area, sadly. You could ride there to if you wanted; all you would need is a flight, the same as me.
I like the forward camera shots, it really makes me want to get out riding, i am surrounded by countryside and am really noticing it now, yesterday a saw two storks, moorhens and a few rabbits. Loving this new hobbie and slowly getting fitter. Great video.
Great day for riding Leonard. I enjoy watching your cycling journey. I am a big guy on a bike as well and have the added issue of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome...so my cycling is more of a miracle than a hobby. Thanks for the Kudos you give me on Strava.

Great vlog Leonard, beautiful scenery and what amazing weather we’ve had recently 😊☀️🚴🏻 it’s been glorious getting out there and riding. Good luck with the IOW ride mate. I’m actually doing an FCC Group Ride on the IOW on March 24th that you’re more than welcome to come along to buddy. 😀👍🏻
Hi Mark, oddly enough, your IOW ride popped up on my calendar this morning. I had forgotten all about it until now. I would quite like to join you, thanks. I'll email you in the next couple of days.
You're very inspiring and give a person confidence to start ridding at. Say. 55. After i fell off my bike two years ago. I feared getting back into cycling as planned.
I'm amazed at the number of cyclists around you, especially at the cafe early on. Maybe it's the season, but I rarely see anyone else out cycling on the road. I'm not training for any event, just general fitness. After a week of rain, it was nice to get outside today for a ride. The trainer is ok but I find that I feel more exertion at a lower heart rate indoors...maybe the temps have something to do with that as it was 0C out today, but I found it perfect for a good ride.
Great scenery Leonard, so jealous of your ride, been indoors here in Massachusetts since November and can't wait to get on the ride. 3-4x a week on trainer, but nothing compares to being on some hills. Of course it is also a reality check of what strength and fitness you have to recover when the season starts. I am riding a steel touring bike and looking to upgrade to a nice road bike this year. I have two 100K rides in June, on in mountainous Vermont, the 2nd on the rolling hills of Mass. Glad you are having some nice weather !
Hello! New subscriber here. Just found your channel and I love your videos! Just started cycling as well and thanks so much for the inspiration. Will continue riding my little bike for recreation and good health!
Another great and interesting vlog. I’m a newbie and have never entered an event/race as yet.....I’ll be working up the fitness and the courage to try that. I definitely not ready yet! Still so much to learn!
Hello there! I'm your new subscriber from the Philippines. Also in my fifties and likewise onto riding cyclocross bikes. Started riding just last Oct 2019 and now hooked both on cycling and to your vlogs . Kindly do a vlog on how to ride off the saddle. I'm too frightened to try it.
Thought I'd mention, my training rides are100 kilometer rides. And I too have to NOT go full gas just to have enough energy to make it back home lol. Living by Avila (in Spain) is really, really hilly. It's crazy how much energy is used! I am training for my first 3-day ride in the summer, Huelva to Portugal, staying one night at a hotel, and a grand dinner then two days of full on riding to try and get back to point A. I wish I could find someone to do the ride with but no one wants to do that ride, not even my brother, oh well guess it will have to be done alone :-) :-)
Your channel is an inspiration, so glad I found it, unfortunately I have managed to injure a muscle now somehow in my hip and I can't even walk much never mind cycle, it's the muscle you feel the power through if that makes sense, taking some ibuprofen and trying to rest it, really want to get back on the bike.
Not training for a particular cycling event so nothing to report on that front but I should mention that I was thrilled to see the other cyclists coming towards you are actually riding on the right side of the road. So we're half way there, all that's needed is for them to cycle in the correct direction. Cheers from across the pond.
Thank you for these videos, it is quite daunting when first riding around, trying to find roads less traveled by motorists. I decided just to get out there and just do it. And for the most part its not to bad. I will also mention im in the U.S.A I did in my youth as a nanny ride around milton keynes on the bike trails alot!! Concrete cows😆
Off for annual Normandy tour at the end of the month. Managed to barely turn a wheel over winter and pile on...well let's call it 4KG. So like you time is of the essence. Just subbed
Best of Luck with that. There is still a little time to train. Normandy is a great place to ride. I rode from Hampshire here in the UK to Paris and back a few years ago and most of it was in Normandy.
I know those hills well, Beacon and Old winch are nice climbs, Harvesting Lane is a beast if you hit it hard. Meon valley is wonderful. Love the Sustainability Centre Beach Cafe.
Hi Leonard just come across your Vlogs and thoroughly enjoying them, like you I find trying to keep the heart rate down going uphill can be a challenge but I don't worry if I get into zone 5 because it's never to long my aim is to try and do it in zone 3. Presently training for the TT season to get my endurance speed up so can do my Audaxing rides in less time my average being 19.2kph for a 200km. I would like to move it up to 21kph. And good luck with your trainng for the Isle of Wight ride
Great video! I can see why there are so many cyclists in Britain-beautiful scenery! I live on Vancouver Island (British Columbia, Canada), which has decent rides/scenery, but nothing like what you have.
Another well made episode as usual. I did my first outside ride of the season today. Living in sweden doesnt help much with the weather in February. Was 7C degrees out side today so nice and... uhm warm. Only goal, well have is Vätternrundan in beginning of June. Going to ride with SZR around the lake dressed in the in game kit but an irl one =) We are aiming at a sub 9h time.
Hey Leonard i'm doing the London to Brighton (54 miles) and then the Nello 2 weeks later (100 miles) i'm looking forward too it. Love your videos keep up the work.
Well done, I find that my motivation wavers, some weeks i can punch out 200k’s others i can barely be bothered to ride 50. I have (half) committed to a big ride here in China, called the Taihu 300. Its a 2 day effort, 1st day being 190k’s, and the 2nd something like 140. I did a 100k ride last week and thought to myself I’m going to struggle on the 1st day of the Taihu, .... Plus the weather here right now is average to say the least. Anyway good luck with the training for the IOW ride, you know you can do it!!! Thanks for putting up the videos, i look forward to them!
Hi Leonard, I have just started cycling again after a lot of years bouncing back from a disability and also cancer. I'm a 54 year old 18 stone lump of lard lol having been unable to do anything for so long. I have had my recumbent trike 6 weeks and so far have achieved a number of rides the longest of which being 20.27 miles with elevation gain 853 feet in 1 hour 54 mins. Under the circumstances I think I'm doing ok so far but have committed to doing the big battlefield bike ride in France to commemorate 75 years since Dunkirk. This is approximately 70 miles a day for 5 days. A very big ask considering but I can only try my best. Its raising money to help support help for heroes. Thanks Michael
nice helpful videos and I recognise a lot of places you cycle (I am based in Chichester) yes I am training for the fred whitton 😱😱😱 it's a week today that's crept up 😒 but also training for king of the downs and the Dartmoor classic
Very nice video. I just happened to stumble upon it, but think will keep watching. You asked what kind of ride we are training for currently? I am working towards a 24 hour bicycle race that I hope to complete 400 miles during, it is just in 9 weeks time so my training is well underway at the moment. Hope your ride goes just as you plan :D
Can i ask, Leonard, what HRM you use. I'm having trouble with a Garmin HRM Dual i just bought - it keeps dropping out and i'm sending it back. Also, being a big lad myself, i bought a 32-tooth cassette and a longer cage derailleur; it helps me greatly on climbs. Thanks for the content; keep it up.
Leonard have you tried training with a buddy or two? I find solo rides really hard work. But if I’m out with other folks I find life much easier. I did a “sprint “ of 15 miles the other night, doing a circuit of Sandbanks in Poole with 2 good climbs on each lap. If I do that on my own I’m at 20-22kmh. With a group I averaged over 25kmh. And that involved a very strong headwind around the harbour. Keep up the good work
Planning on my second Sufferlandrian Knighthood quest on March 23rd. A bit nervous about it as I feel more than a little undertrained and, even worse, my head is not there yet...bit of a problem as that ride is more mental than anything. Later in the summer I hope to do a century or two outside. We'll see. I need to actually get off the trainer and into the outside world first... =D
Riding on a turbo is pretty good training if outdoors is not happening. Its better to do something than nothing at all. Good luck with the Sufferlandria ride. I know they are tough.
Don’t normally comment on UA-cam, however I must comment, I’m enjoying your videos, good on ya lad! I’m just getting into cycling due to not being able to run anymore because of a knee injury, just wear and tear over the years. Im currently down to 15 clem , hoping to get down to 14 and under, those dam pies and lurpak are my downfalls 😆. Keep the videos coming, very motivational!
Loving your videos :) just wondering what mount etc you're using for the GoPro footage? I have mine mounted under my head unit but would love to be able to get more angles like you do.
Hi Luke, I use a rotating mount and an angle adaptor mounted on the stem. The rotating mount can turn through 360 degrees and the angle adaptor allows me to level it up for side shots.
Enjoy your videos , been on and off the bike the last 30 years , after retiring got a little more serious the last 10. I do my best to cycle 30k 5 days a week . I m riding a Trek mountain bike 21 years old been faithful all these years , but I feel like to get serious I should upgrade to a road bike . What's your thoughts ?
@@jollygoodvelo Yes , just not sure what to buy yet . Came here was 230 pounds , dropped to 185 by riding now back up to 205 so must keep focused .. At 64 not easy too burn that fat like when I was 40 .......
Hi I use a lubricant ,I found sometimes I get chaffing when riding I bought mine at a local bike shop and it really helps me, hopefully this will help .
I am a really new and really heavy (150Kg) rider, I have decided to do the 2021 "Fat Lad at the Back" 25 Mile event in Ilkley, the event is May 6th 2021 so I have 5 months, I am not worried about the distance I am worried the hills, 1 hill is 12% in 1 spot but some of the rest are 4% to 6%. do you have video about training for something like this, many Thanks, Paul
i have to admit to having not ridden my bike since november 7th 2019 (only to supermarket and paying bills etc) due to various reasons (depression, weather, laziness). well i have a plan though as soon as the lockdown is over here in uk. i am going to attempt a 100 mile ride 30 days after the lockdown is lifted (on my mtb). have bought a new garmin edge 520 plus in readiness (was on special offer on amazon),just need to buy a cheap mobile that can run garmin connect (my current phone cannot unfortunately). i cannot wait to start riding my bike again (i live in devizes wilts so we have some good offroad routes and kennet and avon canal to ride here). for anyone who is planning something whatever it is good luck with it and hopefully this lockdown will end soon for us all 👍🚴🚵 ps have been watching your videos for a while now fair play to you sir and good luck with future events whatever they may be 👍
@@jollygoodvelo thank you 👍 if i don't feel that i can do it after the 30 days then i will postpone it and keep training. will definitely not be a quick time that i can guarantee lol
I'm just trying to work up to a century. Never felt the need to do one before but now it's become a sort of bucket list item. At present I'm about half way there.
I'm quite new to cycling about 8 months , I find myself doing around 130 miles a week but sat, sun, mon, by mon I'm knackered do you recommend a break day in between
You definitely need to have some rest days between the exercise days. Especially if you are new to cycling and building up your fitness. I would suggest doing a ride every other day or every two days.
@@jollygoodvelo thank you for the advice, I went out with a club, I'm 56 and a fast 60 miles about killed me, I will slow down a bit and have break days
Nice video and a reminder I need to get to work! My first cycling event is less than a month away and I'm trying not be a nervous wreck. It will not be the longest distance I've ever ridden (I've opted for the 30-miler) but has some challenging climbs. #HowDoIGetOverHills :)
Hi Emily, a month is plenty of time if you dedicated. Try not to stress too much about it, you'll be fine if you have ridden that distance before. Take the climbs steadily and before you know it you will be at the top. Best of luck.
Hi as I’ve already mentioned before I’m training for my first century in June. Just over a week ago I ended up with a trapped nerve in my lower back , and missed all the glorious weather. I’m now on the mend , have you ever suffered with this ? If so any tips thanks Helen
Good afternoon, Leonard! Another enjoyable film. I was wondering, when I saw your body askew for narration and saw your shadow holding the camera, and then your comments about your shorts/positioning, did you solve that asymmetric thing you had going a couple of weeks ago? I spent this past weekend taking a Park Tools class at one of my local bike shops - and this one runs a full fit lab. The sensors and equipment yield a "heat map" representation of the various postural pressures and etc. to allow really fine-tuning of the bike/gear/rider for performance. Have you ever done something like that (I can't remember offhand). Anyway, good luck with your accelerated training. Spring is hopefully beginning to break through here in NJ USA.
Hi Mike, I haven't solved the position thing completely. It seems to be a bit easier on the bike when I sat slightly asymetically on the saddle for some reason.
Hello Leonard, Another great show. Just training up for "The Christie" charity ride from Media city Manchester to Blackpool prom. Loving my cycling at the mo. Not athletic at all, 5'8" and 20 stone but going for it :) :) :) . We did a ride from Splash point at Rhyl To Llandudno, over Great Orme, on to Conway and back at the weekend :) Good ride out great weather and sea air. Fantastic!
Hello there, great to hear that you are enjoying your cycling. Your ride sounds fantastic. When I imagine the route that you took I imagine it to be fairly hilly. Good luck with The Christie!
@@jollygoodvelo Thanks Leonard, Yes it was a lovely ride challenging but fun It was 42mile/ 67.5km and 1812ft climb. which felt all at once going over the Gt Orme. I'm expecting my mrs to forgive me for that one, any time within the next few days :) :) :) :) Thank you for the good luck wishes.
A good rideLeonard, I know you have discussed heart rate before but it can be confusing going on the calculations for max heart rate. I will be 68 in April and have a reasonably good cardio system but subtracting 220 from my age gives me a max HR of 152 on long hill climbs at 8-10% my heart rate exceeds this figure and I can get up to 168-even 170 on a tuff climb. I have a Shimano compact gearing but with a 40 cassette which I am in on the long hard climbs. I find my legs more so the problem than my cardio system. It's hard to watch the young girl in our group streak past me so easily although shes very small in stature and lightweight. I am 165 tall and 66kgs i think the heart rate calculation is not completely correct as some people cardio system is different Could I ask you please what your max heart rate bpm are.
I am not Leonard, but just for comparison, I am 68 and I had a heart-rate of 194 on a climb a few months ago, so the old calculation of maximum hr of 220 - yr age is clearly not at all reliable. I keep coming across other ancient people with similar heart-rates.
HI Allan, the 220 minus your age is indeed very inaccurate. My max HR is around 188 190 BPM. I think you have to actually look at what you can do when it is tough and kind of take it from there.
Mistake on days needed, I think I will need 3-4 day of riding to get there, and 4 days to get back, geez I'm looking at minimum 8 days, it's 371 kilometers one way!!!
Thank you Leonard, you are an inspiration. I am 5"10" and I weigh 310 lbs and because of you I started riding my bike. Thank you for all you do!
I was 300lbs too about 150kg, now I’m 99kg
bikes how long did it take for you to lose that much
@@williamsmith8041 a good few years, the first 30kg was fast, but as I’m getting fitter I’m replacing fat with muscle.

At least Spring is on its way, even in Massachusetts! Good luck with your training for the 100k rides. You have plenty of time to train.
Amazing video! Very enjoyable!
Hello! New subscriber here. Just found your channel and I love your videos! Just started cycling as well and thanks so much for the inspiration. Will continue riding my little bike for recreation and good health!
Enjoy!
Such nice scenery and weather, and some great riding that you do. Lovely video and always inspirational.:-) :-)
Thank you
Another great and interesting vlog. I’m a newbie and have never entered an event/race as yet.....I’ll be working up the fitness and the courage to try that. I definitely not ready yet! Still so much to learn!
I'm very impressed by your fitness and strength.
That sounds like an incredibly tough ride. If I was in Spain I might volunteer to join you.
Your channel is an inspiration, so glad I found it, unfortunately I have managed to injure a muscle now somehow in my hip and I can't even walk much never mind cycle,
it's the muscle you feel the power through if that makes sense, taking some ibuprofen and trying to rest it, really want to get back on the bike.
Wishing you a speedy recovery.
Not training for a particular cycling event so nothing to report on that front but I should mention that I was thrilled to see the other cyclists coming towards you are actually riding on the right side of the road. So we're half way there, all that's needed is for them to cycle in the correct direction. Cheers from across the pond.
Wow England is beautiful! Great work Leonard!!
It certainly is. I am lucky to live where I do.
Hilarious 😂! I didn’t know you could be “crazzzyyy like that” 😂😂😂
I'm a man of hidden craaazzzzyyyness!
Been nice to see the sun again leonard, when it is shining its all the motivation you need.
I can't resist getting out on the bike when the sun shines.
Great effort Leonard......
Best regards...Rudy
Thanks Rudy
Thank you for these videos, it is quite daunting when first riding around, trying to find roads less traveled by motorists. I decided just to get out there and just do it. And for the most part its not to bad. I will also mention im in the U.S.A
I did in my youth as a nanny ride around milton keynes on the bike trails alot!! Concrete cows😆
Strave replay is cool. Way to go on the 42km!
It certainly is!
Off for annual Normandy tour at the end of the month. Managed to barely turn a wheel over winter and pile on...well let's call it 4KG. So like you time is of the essence. Just subbed
Best of Luck with that. There is still a little time to train. Normandy is a great place to ride. I rode from Hampshire here in the UK to Paris and back a few years ago and most of it was in Normandy.
when the music kicked in, I was expecting huggy bear to turn up in a big caddy wearing a brown polyester suit. loved the video.
Oh, Spaticus!!
Nice to see you climbing with your head and legs.
If you haven't got it in the legs you have to have it in the head!
You are an inspiration.
Thank you
I know those hills well, Beacon and Old winch are nice climbs, Harvesting Lane is a beast if you hit it hard. Meon valley is wonderful. Love the Sustainability Centre Beach Cafe.
Harvesting Lane is a real toughie. It’s a lovely place to cycle.
Thanks Ian and good luck with your upcoming TTs and Audaxes.
Great video! I can see why there are so many cyclists in Britain-beautiful scenery! I live on Vancouver Island (British Columbia, Canada), which has decent rides/scenery, but nothing like what you have.
I've never been to Canada. I'm sure it is stunning.
I'm from Victoria B.C on Vancouver Island and I think we have stunning views. But yes the ones is this video we're very nice.
Good luck with that!
Hey Leonard i'm doing the London to Brighton (54 miles) and then the Nello 2 weeks later (100 miles) i'm looking forward too it. Love your videos keep up the work.
HI Will, good luck with that. Apparently the tricky bit on the London to Brighton is Ditchling Beacon.
@@jollygoodvelo Thank you. Good luck with any cycles in the future.
I think we all struggle with motivation from time to time, its only human. Good luck with your ride.
Brilliant, stuff .
Thank you find your videos great help as I've just started do you have any tips on how to improve my average speed atb
I made a film about it back in May: ua-cam.com/video/xeX40GRPLqs/v-deo.html
Hi Michael. Sounds like you are doing great. Good luck with your ride. It will be a challenge but you should enjoy it. You’ve got this.
Good luck with your training. I know you can do it 👍
Thanks Heidi. You seem to be going well at the moment.
nice helpful videos and I recognise a lot of places you cycle (I am based in Chichester) yes I am training for the fred whitton 😱😱😱 it's a week today that's crept up 😒 but also training for king of the downs and the Dartmoor classic
Good luck.
Lovely!
Wow! 400 miles in 24 hours. That sounds incredibly tough. I wish you luck with that.
You stopped for your cofee break near my house :) I'm in a similar situation, not really fit enough yet! It's been a LONG winter.
You should have joined me!
Good video. Very helpful.
Thank you
Can i ask, Leonard, what HRM you use.
I use a Cardiosport dual channel bluetooth and ANT+
Great video. Carry on spinning.
Thanks Phillip.
Nice video, very smooth filming😊
Thanks Tom
Leonard have you tried training with a buddy or two? I find solo rides really hard work. But if I’m out with other folks I find life much easier.
I did a “sprint “ of 15 miles the other night, doing a circuit of Sandbanks in Poole with 2 good climbs on each lap. If I do that on my own I’m at 20-22kmh. With a group I averaged over 25kmh. And that involved a very strong headwind around the harbour.
Keep up the good work
I occasionally go out riding with some chums. It certainly is easier.
Keep at it. Great content. See you on the randonee ✌️
See you there!
Brilliant video m8
Thanks 👍
Planning on my second Sufferlandrian Knighthood quest on March 23rd. A bit nervous about it as I feel more than a little undertrained and, even worse, my head is not there yet...bit of a problem as that ride is more mental than anything. Later in the summer I hope to do a century or two outside. We'll see. I need to actually get off the trainer and into the outside world first... =D
Riding on a turbo is pretty good training if outdoors is not happening. Its better to do something than nothing at all. Good luck with the Sufferlandria ride. I know they are tough.
Hi Leonard. What's the song towards the end of the video at 11 minutes? Tried Shazamming it but no luck. 🤔🤔🤔
The rotating mount can turn through 360 degrees and the angle adaptor allows me to level it up for side shots.
glad I found this channel. Coming from GNC, same brilliant quality, but a bit more "real ife" than them.
Didn't realise you were in Hampshire. Are you doing the Southampton Sportive in June?
Sadly not.
Great vlogs i am new to cycling, how do you monitor your heart rate & do you use an app on your phone ?
Keep going :)
You have to use a heart rate sensor and either an app or a cycling computer
@@jollygoodvelo Many thanks can you recommend any particular system ?
Banging weather for a ride. Love Hampshire
Apparently it was the hottest February day, ever.
Ooooooh! I thought we were going to get a whole frontal shot there!!!!! (P.S. Well edited!)
Cheeky Charlie!!!!
Great video mate.
Thanks Alfred.
Sounds like your current bike is doing well but we all love a new bike. If you have the money buy one and enjoy it.
@@jollygoodvelo Yes , just not sure what to buy yet . Came here was 230 pounds , dropped to 185 by riding now back up to 205 so must keep focused .. At 64 not easy too burn that fat like when I was 40 .......
Sadly as we move away from our 30’s our metabolism slows down. It’s very hard to shift weight but you’ve done a great job so far.
How can anyone dislike your videos???
Some people just like to dislike.
Sad people giving it a thumbs down
Hi Leonard I am now weighing 16 st 5lb am I to heavy for road biking and should I lose weight before I start on the road. Be good to have your advice.
Another great video. I love seeing cyclists waving and being friendly with one another. Doesn't happen so much around here.
Hi Norm, yes it is pretty much the usual thing to say hello to a fellow cyclist where I live.
I’ve quite quite a few vlogs about climbing techniques for heavier riders. Good luck with the event.
i have to admit to having not ridden my bike since november 7th 2019 (only to supermarket and paying bills etc) due to various reasons (depression, weather, laziness). well i have a plan though as soon as the lockdown is over here in uk. i am going to attempt a 100 mile ride 30 days after the lockdown is lifted (on my mtb). have bought a new garmin edge 520 plus in readiness (was on special offer on amazon),just need to buy a cheap mobile that can run garmin connect (my current phone cannot unfortunately). i cannot wait to start riding my bike again (i live in devizes wilts so we have some good offroad routes and kennet and avon canal to ride here).
for anyone who is planning something whatever it is good luck with it and hopefully this lockdown will end soon for us all 👍🚴🚵
ps have been watching your videos for a while now fair play to you sir and good luck with future events whatever they may be 👍
Good luck to you with that 100 miler. It sounds tough. I would suggest at least doing some training first rather than 30 days after lockdown.
Good luck with that. Its not to be underestimated but with the right training it is a great achievement.
Did my first 💯 km back in January . Was hard work, but worth it. Did it on a Boardman ADV 8.9 with off road tyres
+Darren Elbrow 100kms is also pretty tough. If you managed that you are well on your way to 100 miles.
Jon Brown Good luck.
Where do you get your percentage gradients from? Your Garmin computer or somewhere else?
Hi as I’ve already mentioned before I’m training for my first century in June. Just over a week ago I ended up with a trapped nerve in my lower back , and missed all the glorious weather. I’m now on the mend , have you ever suffered with this ? If so any tips thanks Helen
Sorry to hear that Helen. I must be lucky and not suffered with it myself. A good bike fit might help. Hope you sort it out.
@@garthly Thank you Garth makes me feel a lot better to know im not the only oldie that registers a high heart rate. Cheers for that.
HI Allan, the 220 minus your age is indeed very inaccurate. My max HR is around 188 190 BPM. I think you have to actually look at what you can do when it is tough and kind of take it from there.
well done. Quality.
Mistake on days needed, I think I will need 3-4 day of riding to get there, and 4 days to get back, geez I'm looking at minimum 8 days, it's 371 kilometers one way!!!
