      @KneeGrow Wrong he tried playing a gotcha game.
      He knew that what she was arguing for was that by talking about the full amount people have to pay, they actually end up paying less... since people don't have to pay private insurances a ton of money for terrible coverage.
      How did he try to misrepresent that? "Taxes go up?!?!?"
      This is *HIGHLY* disingenuous since while taxes go up, the amount people pay still goes down, thus saving money while providing better care.
      Why did he *ONLY* focus on whether or not taxes go up if this wasn't him trying to get a sound-bite.

      Chris wants a headline "Warren wants to raise your taxes". He doesn't care about the actual arguments. That said, the GOP used fake death panels with Obamacare, so they will definitely use the tax argument. The key point with M4A is cost control. A government system means prices are totally controlled by state and driven down. Big pharma and the medical hospital complex will fight this tooth and nail.

    • @rayndawg7181
      @rayndawg7181 5 років тому +3

      @KneeGrow the question was irrelevant. If she'd said yes, without explanation, it would imply that that a universal plan would mean less money in your wallet. She simply tried to set the stage for why the fact that it has to be paid by taxes was, irrelevant in one's overall budget.. If he'd let her finish, he'd have realized that. But, Mathews notoriously interrupts people to try to get them to the answer he wants them to give, or to acknowledge the fact that he is all knowing. He's one news commentator I cannot tolerate. He should join Fox.

    Pay attention to Andrew Yang, this guy has solid proposals.

    • @RvEijndhoven
      @RvEijndhoven 5 років тому +5

      Eh, no. Andrew Yang is a capitalist who's realized just how inhumane capitalism is as a system and is now trying to find a fix for it that doesn't involve actually changing it.
      People talk a lot about his Freedom Dividend, but none of his supporters ever mention, perhaps none of them realize, that part of his proposal is cutting a load of existing social well fare programs as part of that.
      People who are on foodstamps, disability benefits or a low income housing subsidy? Yeah, under Yang's plan they're losing those and getting a flat sum of $1000 per month instead. For many of them, that's actually less than the support they're getting right now. And Yang is planning to pay for this with a VAT, something that always affects poorer people more.
      The Freedom Dividend doesn't help poor people. It helps people who think they now know true economic hardship because they slid from regular middle class to lower middle class after getting screwed over by capitalist corporations due to business practices focused on profit maximization.
      And while Yang has other good proposals, the Freedom Dividend/UBI is the only one that's unique to him (and it's unique to him because it's a terrible idea that could only come from someone who's never had *actual* money troubles, but who has occasionally had to pass over some luxuries).

    The math is not complicated. If you pay a little more in taxes, but you don't have to pay premiums, co-pays or out of pocket expenses, overall costs for healthcare will go DOWN.
    Plus, it includes things that are not typically part of health insurance: vision, dental, and hearing. If you don't need them now, you will in the future.

      Go big or go home, Dems! Getting rid of Trump is necessary but not sufficient. The (political and racial) structures and corruption (lobbyists and campaign finance system) that made his presidency possible will still exist. Moscow Mitch will still be there to obstruct every single bill that promotes democracy in every sense of the word. Going to back to a biased unequal status quo would just lead to more gridlock and disillusionment. Bold structural reforms are needed. Go with a progressive!

    I have never understood why people (aside from insurance companies and those with stakes in insurance companies) are so blind to the fact that nationalised healthcare is better economically. Without profit margins costs come down, such basic maths. Yes everyone will have to pay in, yes taxes will have to go up, but compared to what people pay in insurance they will be paying out less. It astounds me that a developed nation such as the USA puts money ahead of people’s welfare and that people who get seriously ill can become bankrupt on top of the stress of fighting for their lives. I wonder what studies have/should be done on the impact of financial hardship on survival rates of cancer, because I can imagine that not having to worry about how you will pay for your chemotherapy would alleviate stress and increase survival chances.
    “U.S. government entities spend more per-capita on health care than all but two other countries in the world. The two advanced economies with the most economically free health care systems-Switzerland and Singapore-have achieved universal health insurance while spending a fraction of what the U.S. spends.” Forbes 2015
