I gotta give Warren props for not blinking twice at Mathews and finally asking "Are you dense?"
Did she really say that? Lmao
Not dense...willful ignorance! What’s that saying about getting a man to understand something when his paycheck depends on him not understanding it?
I thought Chris Matthews was smarter than that.
Why are MSNBC and CNN attacking democrats with republican talking points?
@@paddleduck5328 Maybe "If there's a paycheck in it, I'll believe anything you say" from Ghostbusters.
I would have given her mad props for doing it, not not doing it?

I work 40hrs a week, 27 years old, single.. and can't afford health insurance. I don't see why affordable health care is such a huge problem.
I'm so poor I don't make enough to file taxes. I qualify for Medicare and Medicaid, yet, I can't get eye or dental insurance. I'm not asking for free healthcare, just insurance so I can afford to go to the dentist and get glasses without having to pay full price. Nothing makes sense...
Buying too much weed maybe?
I know, it's like they've never heard of Canada....or all of the other western industrialized nations that have universal health care.
Because the politicians against it are receiving campaign donations from the healthcare industry.
Adam Howard you’re the worst
Yang's closing statement about the debates being nothing more than political theater was on point!
so ?
Kyle Kulinski once labelled it the WWE of politics
@@lindaleelaw5277 his point was that in terms of relevant dialogue people really just want to hear solutions relevant to the 21st century which Yang has in spades.

He talked about what he could joke about. Join his writing staff if you want that part in and write some jokes.
Seeing Mathews trying to get that soundbite was pathetic. Warren not giving it to him was glorious though. xD
@KneeGrow Wrong he tried playing a gotcha game.
He knew that what she was arguing for was that by talking about the full amount people have to pay, they actually end up paying less... since people don't have to pay private insurances a ton of money for terrible coverage.
How did he try to misrepresent that? "Taxes go up?!?!?"
This is *HIGHLY* disingenuous since while taxes go up, the amount people pay still goes down, thus saving money while providing better care.
Why did he *ONLY* focus on whether or not taxes go up if this wasn't him trying to get a sound-bite.
Matthews is a dishonest actor and a corporate hack. He has no business being in news. The guy is a disgrace plain and simple.
All of the moderators were so DESPERATE to get that "taxes will go up" soundbite. I really want them to quit pussyfooting around and for one of them, I don't care if it's Sanders or Warren or who, to say "if I tell you I can give you $100 but you have to give me $1 first, are you gonna complain about giving me that dollar or are you gonna take that extra $99 in your pocket?"
@@nonofyabidnez5737 Matthews wouldn't have that job if he wasn't a "dishonest actor and a corporate hack."
Chris wants a headline "Warren wants to raise your taxes". He doesn't care about the actual arguments. That said, the GOP used fake death panels with Obamacare, so they will definitely use the tax argument. The key point with M4A is cost control. A government system means prices are totally controlled by state and driven down. Big pharma and the medical hospital complex will fight this tooth and nail.
@KneeGrow the question was irrelevant. If she'd said yes, without explanation, it would imply that that a universal plan would mean less money in your wallet. She simply tried to set the stage for why the fact that it has to be paid by taxes was, irrelevant in one's overall budget.. If he'd let her finish, he'd have realized that. But, Mathews notoriously interrupts people to try to get them to the answer he wants them to give, or to acknowledge the fact that he is all knowing. He's one news commentator I cannot tolerate. He should join Fox.
Matthews: "Will taxes go up?"
Warren: "Costs will go down"
Matthews: "You didnt answer my question"
Uh... yeah she did. Im not really into Warren at all but this is why the question _IS_ a republican talking point. If i pay more in taxes, but my yearly _COSTS_ for healthcare are down then i save money. It's not that hard to understand. Argue _those_ points if you want but stop being an idiot and acting like you do not know what the plan is because you just want a sound bite of her saying "taxes will go up".
True!
Thank you!
the very definition of a loaded question
Evidently Republicans are getting dumber. I think it's because they've all been inhaling the fumes from Trump's bronzer.
I think the difference is that, rightly or wrongly, people don’t trust the government to use their money wisely. It makes a difference because taxes are the costs you must pay
I think Yang killed it!!
Yeah he did! 🇺🇸
He dropped out. :'(
Chris Matthews:
"Hi Elizabeth, we'd like to get a sound clip of you saying taxes will go up."
Elizabeth Warren:
"Costs will go down."
Exactly- slap that old guy, please
Chris is such a tool.
When is Chris Matthews going to Fox?
@monokhem
He wants ANYTHING but truth. He should be on fox with that attitude.
@monokhem No. Just not giving the establishment media the soundbite the want.

@@DrWhom He's special.
Tulsi is dumb tbh her defending Biden is just disgusting ...
Pay attention to Andrew Yang, this guy has solid proposals.
Eh, no. Andrew Yang is a capitalist who's realized just how inhumane capitalism is as a system and is now trying to find a fix for it that doesn't involve actually changing it.
People talk a lot about his Freedom Dividend, but none of his supporters ever mention, perhaps none of them realize, that part of his proposal is cutting a load of existing social well fare programs as part of that.
People who are on foodstamps, disability benefits or a low income housing subsidy? Yeah, under Yang's plan they're losing those and getting a flat sum of $1000 per month instead. For many of them, that's actually less than the support they're getting right now. And Yang is planning to pay for this with a VAT, something that always affects poorer people more.
The Freedom Dividend doesn't help poor people. It helps people who think they now know true economic hardship because they slid from regular middle class to lower middle class after getting screwed over by capitalist corporations due to business practices focused on profit maximization.
And while Yang has other good proposals, the Freedom Dividend/UBI is the only one that's unique to him (and it's unique to him because it's a terrible idea that could only come from someone who's never had *actual* money troubles, but who has occasionally had to pass over some luxuries).
@@RvEijndhoven If you humbled yourself and realized you weren't the smartest person in the room then you wouldn't have so many knee jerk reactions - and you would research things for a change. Everything you said was wrong. It's sad because you could have taken less time researching what Yang is proposing then what it took to write your comment. Switch your mindset.
@@panwerv7618 Nah.
@@RvEijndhoven Firstly his VAT is planned for luxury items not those that're necessities/popular for lower income groups. Secondly the Dividend is Opt-In, so if you're one of those getting >$1000 in welfare, just don't opt into the Dividend and you get to keep all the welfare benefits.
@@RvEijndhoven I'd be surprised if you've heard him talk once. Everything you said about his proposals was wrong, that was a strawman.

$1,000 deductible? Watching from Europe and shaking my head. Americans are nuts not to want M4A.
Nancy Mesek our family deductible is $6,000. 😕
@Blake Q Then don't call it socialism. Call it comprehensive insurance. Americans really don't seem to understand the basis for insurance, like, at all.
@@DrBananaPig Remember when all those idiots were polled and overwhelmingly they said that the Affordable Care Act was good, but Obama Care was bad?
Many Americans live by the motto “just don’t get sick and don’t get hurt. You can’t afford it” being sick or hurt in this nation is a financial punishment for those who dare not have large sums of money to drop on their deductible and other out of pocket costs even after the deductible is paid. Getting sick or hurt should not sentence you to massive debt. In a civilized society, you should not be punished for getting sick or breaking a bone or getting pregnant or anything that would yield having to go to a doctor or hospital.
Most Americans are so stupid they believe the lies lobbyists tell them about all the evil free healthcare brings... who paid those lobbyists? People getting rich off the current For Profit scheme
I hope Seth never stops doing a Closer Look. I still haven't gotten over losing The Colbert Report, and the loss of John Stewart. I'm still in withdrawl.
There’s always Colbert’s opening monologue. It’s like going back home again.
Colbert’s opening monologue is nowhere near the excellence that was the Colbert report and Jon in general. It saddens me to say it but Colbert I knew and loved has retired or gotten lost somewhere between the celebrities and the need to be polite. I miss him terribly.
“The need to be polite”?? You must be watching a different Colbert than I have been the last couple years.
Yeah. This is something that Jon Stewart really needs to explain to Trevor. Trevor (and his whole team?) seem to be *completey cluesless* that they are falling for all the traps and weaselwords that Harris, Gillibrand and Booker are throwing out. They never want to close the door for private insurance companys to keep trolling our medical system.
No Trevor, they are absolutely not all having the basic same goal of universal healthcare. No. Not at all.
Only Bernie and Liz are honest players when it comes to Medicare.
Jeff Brailsford thats entirely possible. Being a foreigner and watching it all play out from across the pond might have something to do with it, too. Colbert used to be sharper, hard-hitting. Now... not so much. But the times have changed and a Colbert report might not even work in this day and age, and this media environment.
1. Yang 2.Tulsi 3.Sanders
Those are my picks
@vince kelly that's what the left said about trump and guess what. People liked what he said despit the fact he's a salesman. All talk no action. Bernie is all talk and all action. Bernie won 22 states in 2016 against a CLINTON in the DEMOCRATIC nominee. I hope they keep sleeping on Bernie so he could swoop in and take the nominee while everyone is caught with their dicks out playing dumb like they had no idea.
1. Yang 2.Tulsi 3. Trump
_fixed_
Good picks !
Jusbert Meza if sanders was ever elected to office it would be the least productive term in history. he is a full out socialist and even a good amount of dems cant agree with most of his everything for free crazy talk. and no one is even asking the most important question... does he even have 4 years left in him haha
Sanders is the only one with the numbers to pull it of, if DNC doesn't block him again.
Yang is too short sighted, and Tulsi lacks domestic policy
NBC: Don’t say anything about Tulsi Gabbard
Seth: Yes Master!
same with Yang. Meanwhile, we are listening to people that can't even give you their website address without getting confused.
I agree Tulsi and Yang should’ve been mentioned but it’s nice that he is one of the few who speak about Bernie and seems to agree but pokes fun without being a huge dick about it
Colbert's show (which is almost the exact same show, same talking points and two of the same jokes) did the exact same thing. Pretend to praise Bernie while mildly mocking him, and the only clear support and effort is on trying to make Warren look good. Anyone the left pushes this hard always ends up being basically a republican who wears a gay pride pin but never balances the budget or provides work for the poor.
Yesterday was a much better debate. Today was about defending horrible records and pointing fingers... not offering solutions.
Sanders/Warren 2020 🇺🇸
They were pointing fingers yesterday, too. You just happen to like the people pointing their finger. Just because you don't support their solutions, doesn't mean they have none.

I like policy solutions and less personality.
Brock Albert nah I like some of the candidates on night 2 but Biden Booker and Harris Deblasio Castro Gilibrand have skeletons in their closets and or take corporate money and the rest are polling too low with no real shot
At this point, If i'm Warren or Sanders, I'd be walking around with a barchart that shows how tax goes up but cost goes down.

Yeah, at least mention Tusli and Yang.
Isn't paying 3000 dollars more in taxes ultimately beneficial if you are not paying the 5000 for health insurance..also the associated uncertainty.
Edit: Warren avoids bait like a boss
Cuz she _is_ a BOSS!
Thank you! Exactly right!
I just wish that on things like this the average person wasn't actually stupid enough to warrant needing to avoid the bait. Yes, taxes will go up. No, you won't hate it, because you'll still save MORE money. What's wrong with saying that? The only thing wrong with saying that is that stupid people can't do the math and think it's bad for them when it's actually not bad for them at all.
She made the right call avoiding the bait, but it's sad that we even have to.
In every other industrialised nation heath care costs per person are lower, we pay for them out of our taxes, which are generally equal to what US already pay, hence families will better off as they don’t have to pay for health insurance.
Yeah... that's pretty much what we've been shouting from the other side of the pond but you've been (and republicans seem to still be) to busy with all your freedoming to actually listen.. Good to see people are catching on, because americans deserve to finally have good, affordable health care. ❤
Wow. I’m actually impressed Seth told the truth on that. Health care cost would go down. Period! We need Medicare for all and we want it now!
These debates are honestly kind of ridiculous. There should be no cheering and playing up to the crowd. In fact, there should be no crowd for a televised debate. Do it in the studio. It turns it into a spectacle and not about the seriousness of the topics at hand. The person who gets the biggest react ends up winning, that's not how it should be. There's a chance if these debates were held without a crowd Trump wouldn't even be President.
It's a spectacle because the networks are in charge, they should only be broadcasting the debates, not running them.
Adam LeBlanc Yang on jre
Thank you. I've been saying this for years. Trump is good at reality shows, but not, umm, giving a damn about anyone but himself. Different skill sets.
Honestly, you should put a petition up at change.org. it is telling that they run the debates like a game show. That's about how seriously network executives are about the plight of ordinary people. They run them like "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire", and, surprise of all surprises, we get a reality show host pretender clown as president. The networks probably love Trump because he drives up viewership and cuts their taxes. Enough is enough. Maybe they have no dignity, but we do.
yang?????? wtf best closing statement in a debate ever. EVER
Warren is so right most people spend so much in healthcare a small raise in taxes would be nothing. I wish people would realize that, unfortunately I think only people with chronic health issues get it.
That and conservatives would rather be mauled by a wolverine than pay a dime more in taxes.
Families with children understand.
People who understand logic understand ... oh no!
People don't realize that a little more taxes over a lifetime will still be less expensive as they age or have children, aging parents etc.
The problem of course will be that your employer will need to forward what they say they spend monthly on your health insurance plan into your paycheck. Ask anyone you work with if they are covered by a spouse if they get that "extra" they will tell you, "nope".

@Alex Mullins Warren / Sanders or Sanders / Warren - I wouldn't care either way :D
Policy-wise the difference between them two is negligible.
But I think Sanders would be the better pick against Trump.
@@robertnett9793 I agree to an extent but remember Warren was a republican until 1994, Sanders has been consistent on every single one of these issues for his entire career, I mean the guy has been photographed multiple times being arrested for engaging in civil rights actions even chaining himself ankle to ankle with POC to protest for the movements in the 60s.
And the country , even democrats , laugh at them. Absolute joke.
Bernie and Warren definitely won in total over the last 2 nights. I can't wait to see them both on the debate stage with Joe Biden. It's time they start getting rid of all the 1% and below polling candidates.

Chris Matthews is just concerned about his own tax bill
I lost even more respect fir him.
Amy Louise He’s asking a reasonable question that Warren had been evading the whole night. Asking questions is his job.
Amy Louise
I don’t know. Maybe he just wants the voters to know if the middle class will see a tax increase with m4a which isn’t unreasonable to ask. The fact that the candidates are evasive tells me they know we care too.
Healthcare costs would go down, but the taxes would go up. People who are healthy will pay more in taxes even if their healthcare costs are low.
It's not a reasonable question, though. If taxes eat up 7% more of your paycheck but health insurance eats up 10% less, are you going to sit there griping about how your taxes went up, or are you going to realize that you've seen a net gain? Corporatists are desperate to frame this as just "bad left eat more tax" hoping that idiots aren't going to think about their total outlays.
@@nickmarsh4176 exactly why it's a reasonable question. I agree with her plan but he's doing what reporters should do which is ask uncomfortable questions. The truth is under her plan the taxes will go up, sure that's only half the equation but the question is still valid. We go on and on about how the right is dishonest with the press we can't do the same. We gotta be honest we WANT higher taxes because we want a more socialist country because we believe it is better for the people
Yang presented a clear vision.
Yang is leaning libertarian on a number of issues, and being an entrepreneur sounds like a huge drawback to me. Also, UBI is a very dangerous idea to wave around, it could be used by the right to gut each and every existing social safety net. We only find UBI a good idea in an already twisted economy, but it would be immensely better to cure the inequalities in the first place.
@@toshir0m1 meh.
toshir0m1 all of that is pretty vague and unsubstantiated. Automation is fundamentally changing the landscape of the economy. The Freedom Dividend is the simplest, most efficient first step to distribute gains from automation. It _does_ help cure inequality without several large, cumbersome government programs. Nearly every other candidate doesn't get it because they're looking at the past.
@@toshir0m1 The idea has been around for awhile. There are right wing implementations, sure, but Yang's isn't really one. The right wing way would be to get rid of all welfare, while the left wing way to be to put it on top of all welfare. Yang's is kind of a hybrid.

Exactly. The desperation for a Republican talking point was obvious and pathetic. It actually assumes their base knows zero about personal budgets.
They are counting on dumb people like you that don't understand economics or the healthcare system. Raising taxes never makes the costs of anything go down. And you better believe if government gets involved with public healthcare the quality will plummet.

I have never understood why people (aside from insurance companies and those with stakes in insurance companies) are so blind to the fact that nationalised healthcare is better economically. Without profit margins costs come down, such basic maths. Yes everyone will have to pay in, yes taxes will have to go up, but compared to what people pay in insurance they will be paying out less. It astounds me that a developed nation such as the USA puts money ahead of people’s welfare and that people who get seriously ill can become bankrupt on top of the stress of fighting for their lives. I wonder what studies have/should be done on the impact of financial hardship on survival rates of cancer, because I can imagine that not having to worry about how you will pay for your chemotherapy would alleviate stress and increase survival chances.
“U.S. government entities spend more per-capita on health care than all but two other countries in the world. The two advanced economies with the most economically free health care systems-Switzerland and Singapore-have achieved universal health insurance while spending a fraction of what the U.S. spends.” Forbes 2015
Exactly
While true that government doesn't take a profit it is so inept with bureaucracy and corruptness that it always makes things more expensive. Remember $600 hammers sold to the military?
The only ones who will lose a lot with a nationalised healthcare are the companies. The people will benefit.
