Definitely. I purchased the CD when it came out after seeing Silent Lucidity on MTV and was blown away. I immediately went about acquiring their entire catalog up till Empire. Blown away each time. Still listen to them regularly. The original lineup was supremely talented. Also was lucky enough to see them live during their Promised Land tour at the Target Center with Type O Negative opening. Great show.

Empire is one of the best albums from the eighties (yes, I know it was released in 1990, but let's not pretend there wasn't any carryover, lol). From the title track to songs like Silent Lucidity and Jet City Woman, it's a solid and worthwhile ride. It's also an album in the truest sense, a collection of smaller stories that, together, tell a larger one. These days, the term "concept album" is used because most releases are less cohesive as a whole.

I had just watched your other Queensryche reaction Eyes of a Stranger yesterday. It randomly played after I watched another of your videos and I always liked that song. Maybe you could do one song a week or something from Mindcrime, in order obviously. I feel you two would really enjoy the process. Great Review.

A good idea. *Vin & Sori* pretty much did the whole _Ride the Lighting_ album song-by-song, and waaaaaaay too much *Metallica* in general anway, because _the facts aren't gonna change:_ The *first four* albums are indisputable *Classics.* The Nameless Black One is them selling out to Mainstream. _Load_ [of shite] and _Reload_ [of Shite] are *so* bad that even Metallica doesn't play those songs anymore. Not sure about the songs from _St. Anger_ except that it is Not a Good Album. _Death Magnetic_ was at least _attempting_ to return to glory, but didn't quite get there. _Hardwired..._ was *not worth an 8-year long wait.* Listening to more Metallica isn't going to change any of this, IT IS JUST TAKING AWAY FROM BANDS THAT HAVEN'T BEEN REACTED TO EVEN A SINGLE TIME, *FFS!*

I can appreciate “Empire” and your breakdown of the song. I was once “in the wrong place at the wrong time”, coming out of a movie theater Christmas night in 1989 (ironically just months before Empire was released. I was jumped by a gang in the parking lot. I was getting beaten so badly I didn’t feel the switchblade being stuck 4” in my back. It was initiation night and the guy trying to get into the gang had to kill a white boy. The police did nothing about it.

The song is talking about the Drug (Crack) epidemic that jumped off in the mid 80's and when it says Eastside meets Westside Downtown they are talking about the Gangs that were divided and set off against each other as each set were Fighting against each other for control of what block or what Territory that they are trying to defend against Rival Gangs or Law Enforcement.
The bottom line is that Queensryche went straight to the Streets for inspiration to make a record this song and I'm proud of them

If you need to listen to one song for a sample, it’s probably Spreading the Disease-more relevant-but it’s a concept album. You will have plenty to talk about and you will not be disappointed. It’s about a street punk and a sex abuse victim who get tricked into committing political murders for drugs. One of the great metal concept albums. One of the great metal albums, period.

I told you that you'd appreciate this one a couple of months ago. Geoff Tate and Chris DeGarmo wrote some absolutely amazing music together when they were still in the band. It wasn't the same after they left. If you'd like to listen to another one of their songs that is beautifully written but less invoking of bad memories you should check out Silent Lucidity. It's simply beautiful.

In this school year 1986 87 this is the budget they are talking about how at that time all the crime was out of control in the US and how little we were paying the police vs how much we spent on everything else

Very dark subject matter, but great instrumentality and totally rocking. Kinda reminded me of Judas Priest

This song is so timeless because, sad to say, this is true in just about every administration and seems to repeat over and over and over again.
Obviously in our current time and situation more money definitely needs to be spent on law enforcement, but what we need is back to the drawing board, and back to basics on training law enforcement better.
That being said, this song is a classic 80’s type rock/Metal song and one of my favorite Queensryche songs, great riff, good solo. This entire Empire album is awesome, this is one of those albums that require a total listen from beginning to end. Other highlights of this album are:
    Jet City Woman
    Silent Lucidity
    Another Rainy Night
    Best I Can
    The Thin Line
Give some of these songs a listen
    Stay cool and...
    \m/ Stay Metal \m/

Wonder if getting the education fixed and not being screwed over in more or less every state, they wouldn't need large budget for the police. But then again, the Prison Corporation would probably complain on them for destroying jobs..

The Cold War had just ended the year before the album came out.
National defense spending was naturally still high.

Their whole point at the time (I think) was the financing would best be spent here.
No nation is REALLY a threat to the U.S., (especially with collapse of Soviet Union) and all that money would be better spent on bringing stability to a lot of U.S. cities/criticizing Government waste.
    Anyway awesome band
Highly recommend "Live in Tokyo ('84)" video \m/ \m/
    Will not be disappointed
    Geoff's vocals were incredible

1986 we were still in the middle of the cold war with the Soviet Union.....because we spent that kind of money, we broke the Soviet Union. there is a huge difference between 1986 and 1990
