      I believe he was a Ford Master tech.

      @Kurt B,
      In my experience, training people to do something is often less satisfying than doing that same work myself. The exception is when the students are bright and eager, but they are often in the minority. They are also more likely to be like Brian -- they figure things out for themselves without needing someone else to train them. What is needed is to clone him.

    • @ArcoZakus

      @@robm3357,
      The Ford engineering group should hire him to teach them how to design an F-150 that would win him back. I'm certain that reliability and maintainability would get high priorities. Two areas that Ford does not seem to appreciate as much as I believe they should.

      @@Anon1mous,
      Which is worse, having to reduce the size of service departments, or the whole dealerships shutting down because only totally clueless people buy their vehicles -- and eventually you run out of them? Toyota seems to be doing OK following the teachings of J. Edwards Deming.
      It seems that Ford management (and others) have forgotten the lessons of the 1970s and 80s and are repeating their mistakes from that era. (Read Detroit Free Press reporting on internal memos about the Fiesta and Focus DCT fiasco for a flashback to the corporate culture that thought it was OK to have a even few people burned to death in their Pintos since the numbers worked out OK for the company.)

I have followed and performed his 5.4 3 valve tutorials for almost 10 years and my truck purrs like a kitten at 150,000 miles. Fords truck reputation in part thanks to Brian, who help has helped owners keep their fussy engine trucks out of the salvage yard.

I continued driving, then 3 weeks later one morning it coughed up black smoke and wouldn't idle, stuttered at low rmps and sometimes died. At that time I knew it must have jumped a tooth so I parked it and started ordering parts. You definitely want to do the job before catastrophic failure. Man wish I saw this 2 months ago!! My 2014 F150 just hit 160k miles and I had the chain, phasers and water pump replaced. Wish I had done the oil pump as well! Interesting note - my chain with 160k miles was identical in length to the new one I put in. I guess that means I'm using good oil? My phasers were having issues though and started that cold start rattle noise. I put the new upgraded ones in.

      I did it myself following the videos and it cost me close to 2k. But I did secondary chains and tensioners as well as the main chain and tensioner. Coolant valley o-rings, spark plugs, coil boots and everything else he lists other than the water pump. Make sure if you are going to do this job you should buy cam shift holders and make sure you use the recommended Motorcraft rtv.

      Hey bro is the stock spring comparable to the 85% spring that's mentioned in the video? I have a 3.7 stang as well and guess what...clack clack clack, time for new timing components and phasers and what not and looking to change to this melling high volume pump...did you use the exact pump mentioned in this video or the race one which has a stiffer spring as claimed on rock auto?

      I installed several of these Melling M390HV the 85lb/100lb spring. Stock pump my 12 mustang was in the middle of gauge . 85lb spring has gauge reading at 5/8 , 100psi spring will show gauge closer to 3/4. I personally use the 100lb spring but I have Manley rods and pistons, built motor that revs to 7800. @@monikhushalpuri

    I intend to have my water pump, phasers, chain, guides and oil pump changed just for the sake of preventative maintenance on my 2010 Lincoln MKS 3.5L Eco. Always happy to hear about better parts that can be placed in place of existing parts to assist with longevity of my car. I'll keep this in mind for when the day comes. Be nice if there existed a better water pump as well that could last 200k+ miles. I'd feel like I could own the car forever it did.

    Putting this up for anyone that may be doing this job and installing this pump .
    This pump barely comes out when doing the timing job . The issue is that the oil pump pickup tube hits the bottom of the pan before its clear of the register in the pump and does not give you the required room to wiggle the pump out easily . Anyone thats replaced any of these type pumps knows that getting it lined up to get on the crank can be tricky so when you ad the clearance issues its pretty much impossible to get this back on as is without using some force. On the 5.4 you can simply rotate the pump clockwise to clear the tube and slide it right out. On this engine however there is a raised area inside the cover that prevents this. I take a die grinder with an aluminum bit and grind just a touch off the drivers side of the pump housing near the bolt hole and that allows the pump to rotate enough to clear the pickup tube and slide on easy without using force. I know how it sounds but there is PLENTY of meat there and it doesnt negatively affect the pumps function at all.
    If you are in contact with melling Brian you need to get them to change the casting just slightly to remedy this issue.

    So my 14 supercrew limited has only had Amsoil signature series and it has 300000 kilometers of oilfield use meaning lots of idle time and hard work. Internally everything is still stock and no phaser or codes for anything related to timing or chain issues. I just had bd manifolds, garret stage 1 turbos and turbo adapters, new cats and all piping from magnaflow. I also have the Amsoil remote bypass oil filter kit and the truck still pulls hard. Just did a 600km round trip in the mountains of British Columbia and truck says I did 14.5al/100kms.
