I understand the initial negative response to the name change. I even understand the continued frustration that the name had to change. But I don’t understand the idea of the name change overwhelming their feelings for the team.
The team is about the players and coaches not a name. “Would a rose by any other name smell as sweet.” It’s that simple. It’s been around for hundreds of years.
Im convinced most of the people that hate the name and won’t comback due to it aren’t real people or were never actually fans of the team and are just stirring up drama due to political reasons.
I don’t like the new name and still call them the Skins, but not watching or cheering on the team as a result seems looney. Bought my 1st Commandes gear this year.
@@Homebuyingtips There's a faction of miserable fans who will never be satisfied no matter what name they are. I've been a fan since 1981 and I don't care what the name is one iota
This is, and has been my team for almost 60 years. The new name sucks but that doesn’t mean I’m not over the moon with excitement about the possibilities!
To the possibilities; a dynamic running back and an upgrade at O’line and we have a top 5 offense for years to come. We need to get Whitt what he needs!!!
Hail baby, HAIL!!!😊
Do think they need more help on O to sustain and grow. Outside of Daniels, it's an older group. he, of course, is the engine.
He shut that door because the media wouldn't shut the eff up about it in the press conference the other day. When he answered the medias question they just kept asking about it over and over again.
LOL if you think that's why he did it. The question was asked twice in a 20 minute press conference. Hardly over and over again. Pay better attention. The bulk of the questions were about the stadium and then the offseason. Two questions. Two.
I only became a fan of this team when I moved to the area in 2014. The name has been a huge topic the entire time. I would accept just about any name if it guaranteed no one would discuss the name as a "controversial" issue again.
In a vacuum, without being labeled some sort of “ist”, 99% of fans would want the old name back. That being said, all ownership has to do is fix the horrific uniforms. Bring back the stripes and correct colors. You can put the W on the helmet and commanders on the chest, but make us LOOK like OUR team and 99% of fans will be happy.
Love the fact the name isn't going back. While I'd like the uni's, colors, and the chief back on the helmet, I'm ready for what these boys will create. For the first time in my adulthood I have faith in the direction of my favorite football team. I just want to win perennially, man. #raisehail
You hate native people
I think it’s a stupid name too but there’s no point in obsessing about it anymore, that ship has sailed. You can either support the team or not. Continuing to argue over it is just useless noise IMO. Building a new stadium at RFK will generate a lot of good will with the fanbase too.
I think part of the appeal of changing is that I really liked "Washington Football Team" and that Commanders is tough to shorten (Mandos? Commies?). That and the uniforms going back to the OG colors.
How are they going to go forward with over 70% of the fan base not liking the name? Fans are uniting but still fans including myself don't like the name
Pretty simple: by winning. They're selling more season tickets; more merchandise; more suites. Don't like? Stay away and don't buy. Everyone has a choice.
1. Winning 2. Stadium 3. Name - change the name to warriors and bring the old logo back. Then you unite 90% of the fanbase. The other 10% who want skins back will never be happy with any name but every fan I know wants the old logo back
I prefer Braves over Warriors since that was our name when we first played as the Boston Braves in 1932.
Agree 1000%
No. #3 is building a consistent winner
99% of the fans want the name back
@Tahonga based on the supra secret survey I conducted?
Comerade it isn't returning and now you are a enemy of the revolution
Is the name perfect? No. Was the old name racist and had to go? Yes. Does a name determine the outcome of football games? No. Do I love this team more than ever because they are finally a competent franchise with a bright future? Yes.
@@DerrickDGregory 💯💯
It was not racist at all. I am American Indian and we love that Redskins name. Only none Indians call that name racist
@@SeeMalPracticehe is wrong. You all never asked us how we felt about the name
It’s only racist because people that aren’t Native decided to be offended by it.
I was fooled by that at one point until I heard the explanation around the red war paint being a source of pride. Not racist at all.
This will be long but you both asked for feedback:
To answer Sam - The name matters to me but it’s not the top thing. A team that competes year to year is the most important. I don’t live in the DMV so I could care less about the stadium so 2nd most is the brand and to me the brand includes name and colors.
1. I dislike the name cause it’s too long. Our team name is 6 syllables long. I use half of my twitter characters just typing Commanders.
2. There is no natural nickname. All of them I’ve heard are forced or in jest and they all make me wince.
3. Specifically to Keim’s “at what point do you just stick on a name…………this is embarrassing at a certain point like pick a name and go with it and just build a good franchise” and Sam’s “chasing the quick sugar high of ohh I did a thing that some people would like so I can win the day in April” Isn’t that exactly what they are doing by tweaking the uniforms. How many times do you have to change the uniform before it’s embarrassing, just stick to a uniform and go with it and just build a good franchise. The uniforms changed with every name change so it’s no different. So when people use one argument to justify why I should accept the name but don’t carry the same energy for similar issues I find it hypocritical.
4. Changing the name is expensive I get it. Though a good brand pays for itself in time. The jersey tweaks just force those that bought jerseys last year to have to spend more money next year on the same but tweaked jersey, that’s a little shady.
5. I love the team’s priority right now and I agree it shouldn’t be the name, it also shouldn’t be the uniforms. Just build the organization.
6. New stadium in 2030, if you keep the name and unis the same you ride the popularity of JD5 that could sell pink and orange Washington Hemorrhoids jerseys. So you ride his popularity and when that starts to plateau right around the opening of the new stadium, you launch a new brand and new uniforms with the new stadium. And sales take off yet again.
Doing this also means you don’t have to pay to rebrand Landover, let that stay Commanders and save that cost. You have to pay to brand the new stadium regardless of the name so that cost is built in.
7. I have strong feelings around the name and while I think Redskins honored the Red War Paint and wasn’t racist I accepted a long time ago it wasn’t coming back. I also don’t let my feelings on the name affect my fandom. I love this team and I thoroughly enjoyed last season, I’m excited about the off season and can’t wait for September to get here.
8. I fell in love as a kid with a great team with a great name and colors. I lived through a lot of bad teams with a great name and colors, never wavered with a bad team with a few bad names and bad uniforms, to get to a very good team with a bad name and bad uniforms. I’m not going anywhere even if they stick with the Commie Mando Commanders.
9. Yes I’m okay with tweaking the uniforms, just wanted to point out the hypocrisy of saying you can tweak the uniforms and still focus on winning but you can’t change the name and still focus on winning. It’s a lazy argument.
This guy gets it
When will Washington upgrade there Logo?
Good now the delusionals can find something else to complain about.
Boooooooo!!!
So you guys asked, so I'll write what I've been writing for months. Changing the name is something they should have done. Commanders is an objectively bad team name. It's awkward to say. It's generic. It sounds like the result of a 12 person committee search that spent all their money on tropical vacations then had to pick 'something' at the end for the Mid-Southeastern Tennessee A&M Commanders. It's the name a division III directional school would get. It's the weakest name in the NFL. It has no valid shortening or nickname. I will be calling them the Commies forever now. If the defense ever gets good, they'll be the Red Menace. If the OL gets good again, they need to be the Berlin Wall. All the jokes.
But it isn't just that it's a bad name, though that ought to be enough, it's that for those of us who suffered through 25 years of Snyder, the last thing we want is to be left with this memorial to his ego. He chose the team name. It will FOREVER stink of him in my mind. Like spoiled milk on a luxury box floor, or melted vanilla ice cream after a game, Commanders will forever stink of Dan. Everytime I say it, as my mouth feels like I'm talking with marbles in my mouth because of how the word has no rhythm, I will be reminded 'Dan did this to me.'
I'm not threatening to leave like some temper tantrum. I made it through 25 years of Snyder. A bad name isn't scaring me off. And no, it's not AS important as the other things Harris is doing, but it is important. Future fans won't have that association. But I will.
What alternative would I have picked? I'm not sure. I think there's ALOT of better choices though. And what's more, unlike Snyder, I would trust this group to actually make a good choice. Red Wolves would have been great. I actually liked 'Pigskins'. It allows the old SHORT name to come back (Skins). It has the same number of syllables and cadence. It's a football term, but it also lightly nods at the Hogs. Hell, even just being the Washington Hogs would have been better.
90+% of 50+ people that I talk to want the name changed back! Redskins WILL UNIFY!!!
Cultures made by the coaches and players.. not the team name. What a weak excuse he used. Sales are up because of JD5 selling jerseys and they’re too worried about interrupting it. Sales could have been astronomical had he changed it to something decent. Like his friends NBA team the Warriors.
I would like the name back, but it is never coming back and I excepted that. I have moved on . I care about the product on the field way more than the name.
I always remind people I'm a Cleveland baseball fan. Not crazy at all about the name Guardians. I watch every game because they put a good product on the field. The first name always mattered more to me than the second.
After making it to the NFC Championship in over 30 years with the new name, the last thing we should do is go back to the old name. You’re just making the football gods angry with that kind of reverse. Let the name sit in the dustbin of history with Snyder’s ownership.
Superbowl win or not we will never accept that dumb name
i don’t care about the name.. we have jayden daniels and our future is bright
That’s fine, but it’s disrespectful when you changed the logos of those players on the ring of honor to the Washington Commanders logo… they played as Redskins, with the appropriate logo. It’s okay to go forward as Commanders with the ‘W’ on the helmet, but honor the previous players in the era they played with the appropriate logo
How do you compete with Philly if you don't spend any money. Eagles are spending money on Smith and Brown but somehow we have to just trot out anyone. There are no real edge rushers in Free Agency. I would go after Stanley for o-line in Free Agency. But to have this conversation Fowler has to actually research who's available.
The new name is far more racist then the old name. Actually, it's offensive to native Americans and the organization should be ashamed of it. The racist name will definitely not unify the fan base. Winning unify's the fan base.
Do your homework.
Khalil Mack in his prime didn’t go for anything near two 1’s at a younger age then Garrett. Ain’t no team giving up two ones, 3-4 picks and a player and a swap of picks
I think winning this season is what shut the door on the name change...I think they was all set to change it to erase the last shreds of Synder, but with what this team accomplished it became a bigger eff you than it would have changing the name. But honestly, after 2 seasons with this name, after the #RaiseHail, NFC Championship, and everything I can accept the name...now I just need to be allowed to get a custom black jersey with my name in it 😂
John, there are going to be a lot of people that still hate the name no matter how good the team does. And it is honestly very uninspired, and completely Snyder. A lot of people want the old name back (it's not going to happen) and the uniforms (that could happen) back. Honestly, the best way to bring back the old unis would be to do what Florida St does, partner with a local N.A. tribe. You kill any controversy, have them active in the branding, and that actually gives you GOOD P.R. Most people that want the name back would be happy with a solution like that. Basically, you can be really happy the team is doing well, and hate the name. I'm still more apt to wear a old Redskins jersey than even a Jayden Daniels jersey.
Don't know what to tell you; it's not happening. Not my decision. I get why people don't like it. But all I can do is tell you what we know and they have now said multiple times it's not coming back. Sorry.
Agree, those all black or all maroon ( ha … it’s not burgundy) uniforms have to go!😊
We do not care what Harris wants to call; it is our team. Wear redskins everywhere on game day.
Don’t really care about the name just want to win. Name commander is lame though
Not the best for sure. I wonder if they win if that will change over time? Don't know. Wizards (to me) remains a bad name more than 20 years later.
Commanders is great! Similar to but better than all the rest of the "Social" names like Chiefs or Raiders or Cowboys or Packers! Worst name is certainly the utterly meaningless to most fans "Browns." I think Commanders is the best team name in the NFL. Except for maybe the Rams.
@@johnkeim4748 it will. New generations are going to become fans and not even know the history of redskins to be so connected to the name
The name simply just sucks. Everything else about it was bad, but at the end of the day, if Snyder picked WFT or Redwolves the name issue wouldn't be as big as it has been.
Winning is most important then getting back to RFK with a good stadium and fan experience. Then the name should be right after that imo. Not only does the name suck it is the last stench and fu left from Snyder. Get rid of it.
I honestly don't like the name for several reasons but I'll only give two. One, it felt like Snyder really didn't listen to the fans at all when it came to the name. The whole process felt like a farce. Two, also Snyder related since he named the team I was hoping to get rid of his legacy as nothing more than a terrible blip in team's history
its Dan Synders Name from his hires. I hate it and will never accept him or that name
Not what he said. Say exactly what he said. We aren’t discussing it at this time. Way to dive all over something that wasn’t actually said.
Winning definitely makes the name more bearable, but it'll always sting knowing Snyder still has a lasting decision on this franchise. Since it's staying can we get a new look and logo. The W is a bit boring. Keep the black uniforms though.
(George Preston Marshall was a pretty bad guy, too, but I very much understand your sentiment)... I agree on the uniforms. To me that was a big mistake. When they were the Football Team I felt like I was still watching the same team. But the name plus a new look to me was too harsh. I can see that someday for sure. When the Indians changed to Guardians I felt like I was watching the same team. Name changed, not the look.
I've never liked the Commanders name, but I am honest and admit that there isn't a name other Redskins that would work for me. I have wanted the Commanders name gone because I wanted to reduce the former owner to a footnote in club history. I would prefer he disappears from club history completely but that isn't realistic. Will I accept the name now? Yes. Will I buy Commanders gear now? Yes. Having said that, this decision is never going to sit well with me. Hail - Washington Football Team!
Hey Josh Harris,
We want Washington Redskins not Commanders. Stop screwing around and fix the last wrong Daniel Snyder did. The name will always be Washington Redskins and will always be a distraction until you fix it*
Sincerely,
Every Long Term Fan
Well, Harris needs to stop pretending he cares about the teams history and bringing the logo back. This is a slap in the face, again, to every Redskins fan.
Go be an Eagles fan!
@@commandalorian8246 no
I think he cares but the reality is they can't bring the old name back it's not acceptable in today's climate...an would drive sponsors away...I wish we coulda jus stayed with Washington Football Team us fans call em what we want anyways..lol no one i know calls em Commanders we all say Redskins or Skinz
The trademark ™️ and copyright ©️ for the Redskins was abolished and this was the major reason "Commander Dan" changed the name due to losing millions in swag sales....
Harris only cares about the new stadium so he can make his money back and compete with Jerry World same as Danny boy.
Yes, he hired talented people to improve the franchise, and improvements to RalJon were necessary so he wouldn't get sued....
76ers and Islanders fans revile him as much as we do Snyder.
Don't drink the Koolaid on this season.....31 other teams have the same goal, and I won't be surprised if it's another 3 decades before we win another Lombardi
@@settledownjs maybe a slap to your face not mine 😂
You don't see Baltimore Ravens fans running around whining for years that the name should be changed to "Stallions" or starting a lawsuit to go back to Colts. This whole name thing is ridiculous, rather bigoted, unworthy, lazy and dead. Commanders is the name of this team. End of story. The players earned it. Get on with it.
Dumb analogy. The Colts left in the middle of the night, they were not rebranded. And Baltimore stole the Browns, they were not rebranded. The current name sucks, the uniforms are pretty bad and completely Snyder.
What are you even talking about... The Colts are still a team. The team stay the same they just moved to a different city. Honestly when Washington was thinking of the name change I wanted them to just move to a new city and come up with a completely new name because it wasn't going to be the same. But if they move and kept the name Redskins it's a no one would be asking for a new Redskins team they would just be a fan of that team. If you're a Colts fan be a Colts fan. You're confusing city and team. Clearly you're a Baltimore fan. I'm a Redskins fan.
Idiot
@@JMoore68also - the original colts came from another state… lolz
BAL has had a winning culture… so is relatively free of fan whining
but watch as y’all descend into babies if u start to lose.
fans a relatively the same across the board…. except eagles fans.
That's because the colts are in Indianapolis 😂
It sucks that we lost the Redskins. Barring a massive campaign from tribes all over the country, it's gone forever. If you can't get over that fact. Move on from this team or football if you need to. Bitching and moaning and being angry about it is a waste of time and shortens your lifespan. Find something that makes you happy.
I think we have all forgotten how much Snyder fought for the Redskins name. If it wasnt for covid and the stadium lockouts the sponsors wouldn't have been able to pressure the name change. Stop blaming Snyder and start blaming Fed Ex and Nike! As well as BLM!
Cry MAGA Cry!!!
@commandalorian8246 You probably a traitor to the team as well as your country.
From the words of judge Judy, about the name Redskins coming back. It's not happening. "Get over it."
You DON’T stick on the name Dan Snyder picked ffs! Jesus… pick a new name and stick with THAT!
Just change the gawd awful uniforms and get rid of the high schoolish black alt uniform
Yes, I loved the old name, but it's not ever going back to the old name, so the only thing that I am concerned with is that they continue to build, win, and stay healthy.
THE NAME SUCKS!!! Change the name and logo. It will NEVER be okay. #nevercommanders #Redskins #HTTR
Too much time being spent on talking about a name!
"COMMANDERS" IS THE BEST TEAM NAME IN THE WHOLE NFL!! Except for maybe the Rams. Objectively, Commanders is great! Similar to but better than all the rest of the "Social" names like "Chiefs or Raiders or R-skins or Cowboys or Packers!" Would much rather be a "Commander" than any of those, as a COMMANDER is above all those-especially a mere "Packer." Worst NFL name is certainly the utterly meaningless-to-most-fans name: "Browns." Animal names are OK but kind of pagan/animist/tribal and have scant juice besides the Rams Lions and Bears, animals are dumber than COMMANDERS. Fantasy names like "Giants, or Titans" are just juvenile and have no implication at all as to judgment or authority. "Jets" is interesting as it is the only object/machine name, but nowhere near as strong as COMMANDERS!!
Hi Sams mom!
Hi!
Anything is better than Football Team. We sucked with the Redskins name for 30 years. Time to let that go and move on.
We also have three super bowl wins with the Redskins name. You must be new 🙄. At the end of the day it will never go back to Redskins but that reason that you just gave was the dumbest reason I've heard to date that's why not to go back to Redskins.
Washington Commies just doesn't work. Josh will change the name eventually. Maybe when the new stadium is built
Yeah well that’s not the name
@SeeMalPractice its Commies. Thats short for Commandos! LMAO
@@venomgt7299yeah, and opposing fans use to call the redskins, dead skins and foreskins
Commies is not short for commandos and commandos is not our name either. Go back to school and learn how to read. As long as the other native American logos are being used today and allowed, will never buy any C word team, always the Redskins and football life is back!!
My view is, it not even about the old name I completely accept Redkins is never coming back. But to fans, Dan picked the worst possible name and took the cheapest rout possible to rebrand the team and that's what fans don't like it's the worst possible choice. Pick a name all fans can get behind. And yes not all fans are going to agree with 1 singular name, but sticking with this one just sucks for a majority of the fan base
Sold Out Games, #1 Selling Jersey is JD5 Commanders Jersey, Cope!!!! RaiseHail Commanders!!!!
The name is one of the worst in all of sport. Redskins was a great name with a storied history. The should have just kept the logo and changed the name to the skins or warriors. At this point, it is just an annoyance.
The Redskins had the most racist ownership in NFL history, stop white washing the actual history of our team. Winning in the 80’s and Early 90’s changed the perception of the team. Just like winning now will endear the Commanders to the fans. If you truly care that much about Native American heritage there are many ways you can support the Native American community in meaningful ways so go do that and support our team. If not, go be an Eagles fan! RaiseHail Commanders!!!
@@commandalorian8246, before I respond, please explain what you mean by racist history.
@dewanehill1435 the Redskins were the last team in the NFL to integrate which didn't happen until 1962. The owner, George Preston Marshall, was an avowed racist who actively courted a southern audience.
At least get rid of Riverside Ron's outrageously ugly uniforms....remember him standing on the sidelines with his black pea coat and black and white striped scarf 😅....
Not one part of his sidelines attire resembled the team's original colors logos included.

It took 3 decades to destroy the franchise and now everyone is delusional thinking we're a "lock" to win the Super Bowl next season 🙄

They will always be the redskins. The only thing I found myself wishing for during this amazing season is that we still had the right name.
