The 24-70 is a great lens that I own and love shooting with it and is often my go to lens. It takes amazing portraits. I have not experienced the out of focus issues that you mention.
Thank you!! Yeah luckily I have a few videos we filmed before the lockdown, now I have nothing but time to edit them haha so there will be a few more in between some self portrait videos too 😊
My issue with the a7iii in Hawaii was a less than optimal rolling shutter. I stepped up to the mound and dumped the a7iii and invested in the a7Siii with the 24-70 GM 2.8. NOW I will be tuning my focus onto the a7iv. Thank you for reminding me of my decisions.
Yeah I'm the same, this is a great lens but I am personally just a prime lens photographer so I will always gravitate to enjoying primes more than zooms!
This was great to see someone shooting with the 24-70. I have had this lens for 2 years and love it. Also, so happy to see the return of the sweater... Haha. It's your signature
Hey Julia 👋🏼 I‘d like to ask you for some advice, since you shoot portraits but also travelling a lot. Would you use the Sigma 35 mm or 28-70 mm as an Allround Lens on a Sony Alpha 7 iii? I know the pros and cons, but is there such a difference in sharpness? Thank you in advance 🙏🏼
Loveeeeeee my 24-70 gmaster. If love my primes too but sometimes you just really need a zoom especially if you don't know where you're going to be shooting so the ability to do wide and mid tele is so nice!
great video. thanks. your explanations are very clear. any chance of doing a video with more technical details on the a7 iii as fs as focusing settings/techniques.
Great video! I didn't love the colorgrading in every one of these but overall this photoshoot was great! I enjoy these videos thanks for another behind the scenes!
I got this lens and the Sigma 24-70 to compare. Everyone says the Sigma is just as good or better, but my GM just seems sharper. Time to do further tests to see which one I'll keep.
Just came across your channel as I was looking for reviews on kit lenses. I was undecided on the Sony FE 28-70mm F 3.5/5.6 OSS lens. I decided to purchase it in part after watching your post. It appears to be a good general purpose lens. And for those who know what they are doing (such as yourself), one can do great things with it. As a novice, I have challenges with composition (among other things). In this post, I appreciated that you showed both unedited/edited versions of some of the photographs that you took. Now a question comes to mind - how do you discern that you've "got the shot" in real time during the photoshoot? How can you tell that the photo is "good" but it will become amazing after post processing? Apologies for such a newbie question...
Fave photos: The ones in the middle of the street. I find that oftentimes a location that's unusual (in this case, as opposed to a fence/curb, etc) can create more unique results. Also, you guys got killer content in 10 minutes. Mahalia was fantastic. I've rented the lens for a few weddings where I second shot (I also shoot primes exclusively) which was interesting. It's pretty heavy (as expected with a fixed focal length zoom), and since I'm just used to zooming with my feet (you touched on that) I sometimes forgot that I could change the focal length on the fly, and when I did, I found that I kept it at that length for probably longer than I should have, or I would physically back up (on the 70mm end) instead of just pulling zoom back to get the shot, resulting in missed shots. Optical quality is pretty solid, though. Bokeh was very pleasing, and focus really wasn't that large of an issue, due to the 2.8 aperture. It suffered a bit indoors, as I had to boost my ISO, but that isn't necessarily the lens's fault. Personally, not for me, and when I shoot my own weddings, I don't plan on using it again. It's also very expensive, which is a bit of a turn off, but for the usability and flexibility it offers, I could see it being worth it for some.
Thank you so much! And yeah I agree, I like using "classic" locations where you ask someone to stand right up against something, but it is fun to try different things too. The lighting in the middle of the road was just too good to pass up! I also experienced that during this photoshoot, while I was looking for different focal lengths to be able to share a bit of everything in this video, I noticed that I ended up shooting at 39mm quite a lot on this day. And yeah, while this is a great lens I just personally prefer using primes, so I tend to gravitate towards enjoying primes more than zooms most of the time.
Hey Julia, Hope your doing good! I am going to buy new Cam and i am bit confused about Sony A7iii and Canon EOS R can you please suggest which is better for Fashion Photography and vlogs. Thanks Dear cheerss🥂
Hi Julia. I have been enjoying several videos of yours on beginner lessons and this video made me wondering why you used higher ISO and slower shutter speed (most videos i watched for portraits you used iso100 and a lot higher shutter speed) Thanks for the videos and keep up your great works !
Right now could I buy this lens in 900 dollars used and the sigma m1 have the same price, between both of them wich one can you recommend me? Pd: sigma m2 is 1200 maybe i can buy it to but is 300 more and I’m not sure if I should 😵
"really like the bucket of this lens the bucket is well pronounced and pretty ( 9:17 )"..... I was watching this video with mute and subtitle on... and got confused. I have been watching your videos and learned a lot about using prime lenses. Thank you for all the lessons. God bless!
Hello Julia love what you do . I’ve got one question, sometimes we see in your videos and not only yours people taking photos with there phones, are they makeup artist, friends of mannequins or there with you???
Thank you! Yes I ask Lidija who is the makeup artist to also take some behind the scene photos on my phone, she takes all the shots and video that you guys get to see on my Instagram stories. I appreciate her work a lot and she never gets in my way 💛
Those last few shots when you noticed the red flowers on the bush were gorgeous!! I struggle with using zoom lenses too. I’ve only got one in my kit (Nikon shooter) and although it’s old and a bit of a junker, it’s tack sharp. However, I am always using my prime lenses. It’s so much easier to compose when my feet are the zoom motor! haha

Just bought this lens & an A7riii yesterday !!! Been saving forever.. I’ve only ever used a canon 5d mkii with a 50 1.8. So excited
So how’d you like it ?
How you like it bro just purchased the a7iii today already have the lens I can’t wait to shoot

The 24-70 is a great lens that I own and love shooting with it and is often my go to lens. It takes amazing portraits. I have not experienced the out of focus issues that you mention.
When you shoot with primes it's almost exclusively with 35 and 50. With the 24-70 GM you used from 24 to 30 suprisingly often.
Yeah I realised I shot at 39mm quite a lot during this shoot lol
Nice photography
You have very much idea for photography how many camera you have?
Sooooo glad to see a new video from you shooting outside!!! Thank you. I own that lens and it's the best 24-70 I've owned. Great shots too.

Yes, there is lockdown! Listen to the first few minutes of my video just after the intro :)
