the part where RM says "I'm ill" is actually really clever korean wordplay because he's saying hes ill as in sick, but the korean word for the number 1 is also pronounced like ill. so he's sick but he's also #1. also bts got a grammy nom today!!!!
and also 'ill' can mean 'work' : )
they are using the metaphor of being a workaholic in this entire song, so it's super clever!
So he's saying: 1. i'm sick (as in great/amazing) 2. i'm sick (as in not healthy emotionally/physically/mentally) AND 3. I'm work itself (cuz they are workaholics)

In English, "ill" means sickness, but it's also slang for "dope" and "cool". In Korean "일" is the number 1, it also can refer to his "work" or "job".

The song is basically about how they're workaholics and not being able to rest is their "disease" bc of quarantine they basically had to take a break and their brains just wouldn't shut off. It's a really really cool song.

J-Hope (one of the rappers) produced this song. He has a hip-hop dance background and is a huge fan of old school hip hop. You’ll see that influence in his own personal mixtape

You guys have one of the best reaction channels. Not frivolous, and you guys thoroughly discuss the music and the lyrics. It's really appreciated! Just some ideas, it would be great if you guys pause after a sentence/phrase has been sung in full. That just helps the viewers' enjoyment of the song not get cut abruptly. And it would be cool if you guys did a journey through BTS's content from the very being! I would also suggest first checking out audio versions of songs, then checking out the lyrics while listening to the song, so you can absorb both music and meaning.
edit: you could even dive into the members' solo projects! RM's 'mono', j-hope's 'hope world,' and Agust D 's (Suga's alias) 'D-2' would be great!

Skit is basically a conversation about their song "Dynamite" becoming a Billboard No. 1 hit song in September. its funny ,chaotic & wholesome
3 rappers: RM, Suga and J-Hope (J-Hope sings too, but he is not in the vocal line) and 4 singers: Jin, Jimin, V and Jungkook (Jungkook raps in the older songs, but now he is the Leader Vocal). And, they all compose and make contributions, but the Rap line produces more things for BTS.

Essentially, what happened is that he came up with it on the spot, and then was asked to write it down. Writing both lyrics and melody takes a little more time, but he did create it already in his head right away 😊
Well, actually it was composed by 3 artists, including Jhope, Namjoon and Jimin. He wrote only part of the bridge in 3 minutes. Misinforamtion comes from poor translation.

This is my favorite song on the album. The entire album is without a doubt flawless, in my eyes...their best to date.
All BTS albums are like that… the songs have a connected story in each album … what’s even more amazing is that they usually do trilogy which means 3 albums with connected stories.... the best part is that BTS songs are their real life stories or emotions that they feel while they make the album or songs.

I call this a Magic song because The whole song before the bridge concentrates on the 3 rappers and the chorus where the vocal line sings is like a "support" BUT after the bridge, Vocal line became the MAIN ACTS and when they came back to the chorus it sounds like an anthem already that has a whole different feel.
U guys should check out their live performances for the truth untold, euphoria, Serendipity also so what, love myself. Their stage presence is out of this world.

Well the skit is about them achieving #1 on the BB Hot 100, and their excitement. They have said before that they are upset about the pandemic because people are suffering and they were unable to meet their fans in live concerts which they were preparing for, but they also said that without the pandemic, they would not have dynamite because they chose that as an uplifting song for fans and people around the world given the circumstances. So I wonder if the placement in the middle of the album is in line with their change of perspective I.e. they were down and sad but they still achieved a long-time goal which means that despite everything going they could still make the best of it, and it’s all about mind over matter. So they are encouraging us to still strive for our dreams even through the current circumstances, because anything is possible as life goes on.....
Sugas rap made the song, it was so good. His cadences are amazing.
I love this song so much. There's a lot of wordplays. The lyrics are even more special and meaningful in Korean.
BTS Rapline definitely the most versatile rapper (at least) in kpop FOR ME. Each one of them has their own styles.

I love how Yoongi always says 'Suga' when his part in a song comes. And love how J- Hope produced this song and the 'I Will Never Fade Away'.
This is one of their songs that has word play just like Ddaeng cos they are just great with that. Il is one in Kor while ill is like sick so they are both no 1 and sick.

You guys are so on point once again! This song is produced by Jhope, who is originally a dancer before joining BTS. It's almost his forte producing this type of old school hip hop dance songs, since this is what he grew up with. However, his range is definitely growing continuously.

I really enjoy your reactions, keep up the great work! BTS has their roots in hip hop, their early music is heavily influenced by hip hop. They went to L.A. in 2014 to learn about hip hop culture and worked with people like Coolio and Warren G. They did a TV series of 8 episodes called American Hustle Life, which chronicled their time there. I think a lot of what they learned during that time still influences their music today. They were also working on their "Dark & Wild" album at that time, it is a fantastic album and would be great for you guys to review at some point.

In my point if view, there is a meaning why they arrange the songs in the order of the album. It represents how they are during the pandemic period. At first, even they released the new album “Map of the soul:7” which they mentioned the album is much harder than ever and planned world tours, their plans were all messed up and they might get sad, gloomy as they cant do anything as an artist and performer. So they struggled some very blue and grey period. And then they released “Dynamite”, they successfully made their concert perfect. Through the time, they saw and felt again the love of their fans, ARMY all around the world.
So they inserted the skit contains their first feelings, full of happiness and excitement right after Dynamite is announced as #1 of the billboard chart(the skit is also recorded right after few hours later if i memorize right).
From that time, they could feel the fans are still stand for them and wait for them with loves, so they realized even though the everything has been changed a lot, but you and me are still here, so the truth has not been changed. We all know life goes on even the situation is much tough but it will get better, so let us live life with hope and expectations for our bright future.

Joon has said in his previous album reviews, BTS, and especially Joon, make albums with the intention of the listener following the songs as one would a story. All of their albums have a "beginning", "middle", and "end".

the world play in this song is just.....out of this world. Sorry your first experience to this was color-coded lyrics, but I think you guys said you would look into doolset? She explains context, world-play, and cultural references.
Every single one of their albums need to be listened to in order (particularly their more recent ones from the past few years). Because this album is based on covid, the story is more obvious, but previous albums are a little trickier to figure out. But Suga said last year that its not necessarily a particular song that tells a story, rather the album tells a story. Like what you've just seen with this one
