- This was my first impression of old Baghdad. I visited one of the most famous shabander cafes and met some friendly locals while exploring the famous al multanabi street.

For those who don't know India was among few countries that opposed to invasion of Iraq.
Iraqis have always been very friendly to Indians.
As far as I am concern as a person who was born there , I don’t care if they burn this city on it’s people

Iraqis are very friendly people.
Better to have police than cameras. I always felt safe in Iraq in the eighties! Folk are very very friendly and down to earth. I feel Iraq would be a good tourist destination as it is so vast, scenic, and the people very welcoming. The food never disappoints in all the restaurants.
So neat and clean Streets and beautiful architectural buildings. Doesn't like a war ravaged country only a few years ago.

True, the safety back in the eighties could not compare in today's scary world. Can't imagine how cosmolitan Iraq was. They were excellent pay masters, beautiful stunning country with the best hotels and food and service. Pity that it was bombed to the ground and destroyed.

In my life i gg ot chance to visit Iraq in Baghdad us army base, Balad,and Taji for 6months and come back to India very nice Place same as Punjab in India Greenery have in Iraq and good for Agriculture.

Just search for Iraq vegan food in Google. You will come to know how to manage as a vegeterian in hard core meat eating countries. If you love exploring local vegan food,then you can go there. Maybe you can find Mediterranean food with lot of vegan options.
Otherwise you have McD in the capital cities.
Another important point is, if you find backpackers hostel,go and stay there because you will have kitchen. You can buy dal,chawal and Vegetables from local supermarket and cook the meals as you wish.
